Chapter 20: What do you think?
I knocked at their front door, silently waiting for my judgment.
The door opened and luckily, it's Gwen who opened it.
"Oh hey, come in. I thought that you go home already." She said with a smile.
"Nah, your father said that he wants to talk to me," I said with a wry smile.
I entered the door and saw her father sitting on the couch and watching tv. I also saw the gun that he brought out earlier at the coffee table.
"Hey, I thought you're gonna call your old driver?" He asked, looking behind me if someone is behind me.
I scratched the back of my head and answered, "He said he's alright staying in the car and wait for me"
He looked at me then turned back to the tv.
"Come on, sit. Let's talk" he said without even looking at me
I sat down on the couch, the left side of where Gwen's father is sitting. Gwen followed too and sat beside me.
Just before she can sit properly her dad talked. "Gwen, go to your room, I'll talk to him. Alone" he said, again without turning away from the tv.
Gwen looked at me, worried about what her dad might want to talk about. I reassure her with a nod and a small smile.
She got up and proceeded to go to her room.
"So what do you think about that?" Mr.Stacy asked
I looked at the television to see what he's talking about and saw a man in a red and gold suit of armor. It's Iron Man.
"Think about what sir?" I asked him back
He looked at me then asked again.
"What do you think about those 'super heroes' roaming around?" He said while looking straight into my eyes.
"I don't know what you mean by roaming around, but I think they are not that bad," I answered his question.
"They are not that bad? I don't care about Captain America, but really? Tony Stark? A civilian?! Fighting against terrorists? And what about that thing!? The Hulk? Using a brainless rage monster out to fight another monster like him? What if that monster rampaged, again, and kill multiple innocents?" He said forcefully, almost shouting what he's saying.
"I mean, they fought off an alien invasion, and sir that civilian you're talking about redirected a nuclear bomb sent to destroy the whole city of New York. With all due respect sir, they've done good things and saved the citizens of New York and also the world. And that rage monster that you're talking about, fought a literal alien god to stop that invasion. Please don't think of this as a sign of disrespect, sir. But those who you are calling civilian and a monster saved this place and with that, saved my and your family from both the aliens and the nuke." I said with a stern look on my face.
I know that this kind of answer will leave us with a little bit of bad taste in our mouth, and maybe more. But I will not let anyone disrespect someone who fought for the world and saved countless lives, even if he's the father of the girl I'm starting to like.
We just sat there and looking at the eyes of each other for a few minutes.
He suddenly stands up and picked up his gun, I immediately tensed up and readied myself if he does something drastic.
He just walked away while holding his gun. I watched him as he walks in the direction of the stairs.
He stopped and said "Go home, it's getting late" then he continued upstairs.
I just sat there and waited if he'll come back down but he didn't. I stand up and decided that it is time to go home.
"Hey!" I heard someone called.
I looked behind me and saw Gwen walking down the stairs.
"Oh. Hey," I waved at her and stopped walking.
"It's alright, Dad is just on the edge all the time after the rise of the heroes." She looked into my eyes and said softly.
"Yeah, I can tell," I replied with a little smile.
I know I can't be angry with him because of that, the man is only doing his job as a protector of the masses.
"Don't mind it, he's just a little paranoid. Anyway, see you at school?" She said with a calm smile.
I smiled back and said, "Yeah see you at school."
She walked me until we are at the stairs on their front porch.
I turned around and looked at her saying "thanks for today, it's awesome"
"Yeah, I enjoyed it" she answered with a smile.
I waved her goodbye and proceeded to the car.
I'm in front of the car's backseat door when Mr. Rogers said "Enjoyed the date?"
I answered, "Yeah, the ending is kinda bummer though, but it is still enjoyable."
He nodded and said, "That's how life is, not everything is gonna go according to what you want. Let's go home?"
I smiled at his advice, and think about it he's right, not everything is all about me everyone has their own life to live.
"You're right, let's go home."
