Chapter 2: Limbo pt 2

The next thing she knew, she was free falling. She managed to use her powers to stop her fall but instead now she found herself even more perplexed. It seems that somehow, the wormhole had transported her to another planet. In her heart she thanked X'hal for still looking over her as she began descending towards the planet. The area she was currently at was a barren dessert and it was night at that place yet she didn't care. All she wanted was to feel the courseness of the sand under her feet once more.

She was in the midst of descending when something suddenly tackled her. She looked at the offender who turns out be quite familiar. It was the same guard that had attacked her just before she was dragged inside the wormhole. He grabbed her by the throat with one hand and began punching her face with the other. She wasted no time bringing her palm upto the guard's helmet and fired an energy bolt.

It barely seemed to do any damage but was enough for him to loosen his grip, allowing her to escape his grasp. She retreated a good distance away from the armoured Psion before wondering how he had gotten there. She then looked up and saw the Wormhole still up in the sky she also spotted more and more debris, belonging to the Psion ship coming through it. It seems that the wormhole was slowly consuming the entire ship.

She then refocused on her enemy, who now had his axe in hand. The two of them floated midair, staring unblinking even as the debris coming out of the wormhole managed to reach them, turning that area into a mid-air gauntlet.

The Psion attacked first bringing the axe over his head before charging at her just a large piece of debris obscured their sights. The axe cut through the debris and continued on at her head, causing her to jump to the side before firing a barrage of attacks at the guards. However when the smoke cleared, she found the Psion unharmed. An energy disruption barrier, she theorised before retreating in an attempt to lead him into the paths of the falling debris as blunt force and kinetic attacks are the only ones that can bypass the disruption barrier.

The plan worked as he got caught under several pieces of debris damaging the armour he wore at several places. This in turn also made him even angrier and he began swinging the axe at her with reckless recklessly.

And in the midst of this, she suddenly spotted something falling from the worm hole and started flying upwards while evading the debris. The Psion followed close behind, his bulky armour making it difficult for him to evade the debris like she did. She suddenly got obscured a piece of debris yet the Psion chose to cut through it with his axe.

However, as his axe went through the debris, something pierced it and hit him in the chest. He looked down to find a plasma blade sticking into his armour. Fortunately for him, the disruption barrier negated most of the attack. However, his armour still suffered a considerable amount of damage where the blade hit him.

He retreated sideways just as the blade got pushed deeper as the girl emerged from the other side of the debris, halberd in hand.

The pair then began exchanging attacks while simultaneously sidestepping the falling debris at the same time. While the Psion used the strength given by his armour to try and gain the upper hand but he was more a researcher than he was a fighter as such his attacks were predictable and easily telegraphed, and the girl used this to expertly parry and dodge his attacks while countering with her own. After all, unlike the Psion who was only relying on his superior technology, the girl was forced to push her body to her limits as the nobles of the Citadel had forced her into gladiatorial fights for their amusements. This combined with the teachings from the Warlords of Okaraa she had studied under in her youth meant that her combat proficiency never faded even after all the years in captivity.

However, skill and equipment alone does not decide the victor. An unpredictable variable also plays a major part in it.

Luck.

Like in this case, as the girl was slowly but surely overwhelming her attacker damaging his armour enough for him to become scared for his life, a stray piece of debris fell on her head, momentarily stunning her. This allowed her opponent to close in on her and slash across her torso, leaving deep cut across it. He then brought down the pommel of his axe on the girls wrist causing the girl to scream out in pain as several bones on her hand broke from the blow. So much so that she dropped her weapon after being unable to withstand the pain. He then tried to follow it up with a diagonal slash at her throat with the intention of decapitating her.

Fortunately, the girl managed to duck down saving her life in a hair's breadth before throwing a punch at the Psion's now damaged portion of armour. As he was still in the middle of the swing, his entire body was exposed and it allowed the girl to land several more hits on him before she grabbed his arm wielding the axe with both arms and began twisting it. And despite the enhanced strength provided by the armour, he found his arm being twisted more and more until, pain began to ovwhelm his senses. He tried to use his free hand to land a few punches on the girl, but she simply endured the pain even as she felt several of her bones break.

With one last twist, the girl twisted the guard's arm, breaking it and rotating it to near 180 degrees. The axe finally was released from his grasp as he bellowed in pain. The girl managed to grab the axe as it was about to fall and attacked the now screaming guards faceplate, knocking him away. She was about to close in to give him the final blow when she was suddenly shocked by the axe itself. It appears that the axe had a security feature that prevented unauthorised individuals from using it.

The voltage of the shock was enough to send the girl barrelling down onto the ground several over thousands of feet below. She crashed onto the ground hard enough to create a cloud of dust around her. When the dust settled the girl could be seen collapsed in a small crater, created by the impact of her crash.

The guard's axe had fallen just around 20 feet away from where she was. It owner landed gracefully near it, still nursing his broken arm. He took the axe and began menacingly walking towards the girl, intent on killing her slowly for breaking her arm.

The girl could only watch helplessly as he approached her, her body in too much pain to even get up. As he raised the axe with his uninjured arm, she closed her eyes in resignation. If this was where she died, at least she died fighting.

The blow she was expecting never came as I low humming noise caught the attention of the pair. The psion turned around to find a golden portal opening a few yards away. The girl opened her eyes and saw the same sight as well. A yellow robed person exited the portal not soon after befores staring down at the Psion.

"That is no way to treat a lady." the stranger spoke in a feminine voice. She said it fluently in the Psions language. The guard in turn charged at the newcomer, who didn't look bothered by the oncoming attack. Instead, she flicked her arm and an unseen force knocked the Psion out of his charge. She then waved her hands a little more and an energy began circulating around the it another portal suddenly opened next to the guard who was suddenly dragged screaming into it by several tentacles that emerged from it. The portal closed soon after and the figure began to walk towards the prone form of the girl.

The girl was watching her approach while her body was shaking in fear that this person would become her newest captor. She had seen how easily this woman had gotten rid of the Psion and was in no hurry to have it happen to her.

However, contrary to her expectations, the woman took her hood off revealing a bald woman with pale skin similar to the daxamites she had witnessed visiting Tamaran in the past. She waved her hand and the girl felt her body float upwards towards the woman who gently grabbed her before helping her stand upright.

"You are quite far away from home aren't you?" She asked with a smile, this time in the Tamaranean language much to the girls shock.

"You probably have questions but you should save them for after you have rested and eaten." the woman spoke before she could. The girl pondered her 'saviour' s words and nodded. She was then gently led inside the portal from where the stranger had arrived.

"Do you have a name?" the woman asked.

The girl looked at ground, trying to remember her name which she hadn't used for years before answerering.

"Melizand'r. Princess Melizand'r of Tamaran."
