Chapter 99: A Flawed Thinking

Norfolk, England,

Some Distance off Norwich,

Runeas POV,

A ball of darkness, that pretty much summed up what the crimson haired Devil was observing at the moment.

Runeas was, just a little bit, confused. Admittedly the human teenager had a strange way with his words and was something of a tease sometimes but he had a rather bright and pleasant aura about him more often than not. Yes, it did disappear when certain things were brought into question but, you get the point.

The Gremory Progenitor had a favourable opinion of the teenager and wouldn't quite mind accepting him into her household should he so desire, yes the Devils were conceited shits right now but there were always exceptions, just like herself.

Therefore, she, the first Gremory, and one of the first Devils to live, found herself confused at what was happening. The bright and pleasant radiance had turned into nothing and then the chuuni fairy strangely appeared, running up to Samuel and encasing them in.... that. Was he in some kind of trouble?

Runeas hummed with her hands at her hips, leaning down to more properly observe whatever it was. It absorbed magical energy from the air to sustain itself but beyond that, she couldn't see anything, "Well this is... not cool at all." Her words were slightly serious, she was an ultimate-class Devil, for her to not even understand what 'it' was meant that the caster was a relatively formidable individual.

Raising her hand, the Gremory slowly reached for the swirling ball of darkness.

"You, bat... Stop."

She froze in her spot, the 'little' girl accompanying them wasn't something even one such as her would make the mistake of offending, same reason she hadn't made one move at the silver haired teenager.

The Infinite Dragon God, perhaps the strongest individual in the world, had been following him around with her pitch black eyes somewhat shining. None knew what that really meant but any who were in the know knew not to mess with whatever caused it.

Ophis, as calm as ever, walked up to the ball and tried to touch it. Keyword being 'tried', as her small hand only seemed to phase through it. The Dragon God recoiled, backing off in a slight hurry, "Different, unknown place." Ophis, as naive as she was, wasn't the slightest bit interested in entering wherever that led.... Well she might have if Samuel was in there but he wasn't.

"I won't say you weren't being an idiot but stop." Echidna grasped the hand Samuel had punched himself with in both her own, pale white hands, "Yes, that mentality was one of an idiot but it didn't cause any significant change or damage, apart from wasting time."

The Witch of Greed seemed to dislike his actions.

"I notice men always try to brute force their way through things.."

"Kinda. I mean, smashing through stuff works most of the time." Samuel slightly chuckled, he really wasn't built for intricate thinking... Even if he could, he didn't like doing so.

"I wouldn't know, a lady doesn't brute force her way through things." Echidna sat back on the sand, puffing out her chest with closed eyes and a smug smile.

"The same lady that wiped out several species." Samuel slightly smiled as the witch's posture froze in response to his words.

"That....That was because they were being annoying. A pure maiden has her limits." Echidna nodded, attempting to affirm that she had justified reasons for destroying nations and killing off species.

Samuel lightly chuckled in response, he wasn't quite in the mood for... anything really. He wanted to get drunk to high heaven, or lie down and doze off, wake up a month or something later. For one, he felt....

"Are you...."

The fact that his skin was a sickly pale didn't help in hiding the embarrassed blush, only serving to highlight it.

"Is that for me?"

"No, piss off."

"..... Least I tried.." The Witch of Greed looked away with a small pout.

Yes, he was embarassed, not at the witch holding his hand, but at how he'd been behaving, and at how he'd spent his life, and how a simply misconception fucked his mental state up. Well, he was human in the end, and by no means an academic genius.... But that didn't exactly help his embarrassment.

And, for a moment, the calm, collected and talented visage crumbled, "Ah fuck, fuck." Samuel covered his face with his gloved hands, closing his eyes in a bid to hide his embarrassment. As well as the feeling of doing something so incredibly stupid it couldn't be put in words.

Yes, extreme sadism wasn't exactly amazing but it was far better than loving to kill people.

What he felt right now, was something indescribable. It was like making up your mind to do something and working on it for months, forgoing sleep and health to accomplish the task and when proudly reaping the results, noticing or being told that you got something completely wrong or messed it up to the point where it became something else entirely.

Echidna giggled at her contractor's actions, covering her mouth with a hand.

"Oh, fuck my life." The silver haired teenager sighed at himself, shoulders slumped and posture dismayed. What had he been doing all this time?

"Well, time to put your award winning acting capabilities to the test and get to bed because they're getting suspicious." Echidna lightly ruffled his hair before dissipating into wisps of light that disappeared not a moment later.

"I did tell you I was a greedy woman."

With her, the ball of darkness surrounding him also disappeared.

A barrage of questions struck him right after.

"What was that? Did you do it? How's it work? Can you tell me?" Runeas bombarded Samuel with questions, circling around him with curious eyes but at the end, "Are you alright?" The Gremory was actually the slightest bit worried, it was only natural after all.

"Yeah I'm alright, thanks for worrying." Samuel slightly waved his hands, smiling with closed eyes. He wanted to dig a hole and sleep in it for months. His whole being was conflicted at the moment.

'Always remember, you don't always deserve what you have but you might as well, after all, things like 'deserving' are decided by the masses. Masses neither you or I care about. Be true with your feelings, use what you have. I'd say you can use my body too but I don't have one.'

Samuel, got a strange feeling about her words. Did she want to bang or something? Why say that last part out of nowhere?

"I wasn't worried though." Runeas turned away with folded arms, "Eh, just kidding. I was super worried. Man, I thought you'd become the brooding depressed type after that cause it looked like you just killed for the first time." The crimson haired devil nodded wisely, folding her arms under her chest.

"Well I did just square my previous kill count." Samuel smiled pensively, yeah, those ships numbered in the hundreds and he destroyed them all with zero remorse. It didn't really feel like much of an achievement but he was done regretting things he didn't truly regret... Yes, he'd avoid killing if it was possible but, there were occasions where it wasn't. Trying to avoid it completely would make him something he didn't want or need to become.

Surely, a flawed way of thinking put together on the fly once his previous one was demolished but it would do the job.. for now. Sleeping it off would help a great deal.

Runeas looked at the sea, and then looked back at him, "....." She once more looked between him and the sea, "That's one low kill count you goofball." She wrapped a hand around his neck, grinning cheekily.

Ophis..... was just watching it unfold in silence... Though, he was more than interesting and the Dragon God would follow him around till he died... Humans did have a very short lifespan after all.
