"Good morning, sweetheart." Declan had never been nervous before while speaking with Yasmin. His heart trembled the moment the call connected, but he tried to sound confident. "You get up early."

"I cannot sleep at night," she fumed. "I waited for your call."

"Oh!" Declan immediately felt guilty. "I… last night… the m-meeting unexpectedly lasted longer. I didn't want to wake you up in the middle of the night, so I thought I'd call you in the morning."

"Yeah! You didn't call me, though." Yasmin scoffed. However, she couldn't hide the irritation in her tone. "Where are you now?"

"Right now?" He scratched his head. His mind whispered, 'In a hospital,' but he said, "In a hotel."

Despite his dissatisfaction with Francis' excuse, he couldn't think of anything better to tell her.
