CHAPTER ONE
Page 3- _What lies beyond the abyss_
Whispers of girls seized the class as they declared the night in shining armor as their own. "Come sit next to me, there's an open chair here" or please take my place" were all irritating lines to Rintaro. She closed her ears, stuffing them with a pair of white earplugs. Just when she thought Keisuke wouldn't notice her, he went and sat beside her in a different row. Voices went silent, and eyes preyed on Rin with faces of obvious anger and jealousy. But there was nothing to be worried about, her resolve was not to talk to him until a good enough explanation had been provided. He tried to call her but she stood herself up to the teacher with an excuse for the restroom and went out. Keisuke showed no sign of persistence as he kept his cool waiting for the right place and time to talk again. The time chimmed 12:00pm as the lunchbreak bell rang.
Rintaro Haruno was bad at approaching people and she had gotten accustomed to socialising with people less. She gave herself a tour of the school to look for a secret spot of her own, and the only place she found was the windy roof. On it laid a crappy bench which looked liked nobody had sat on it for a long time. She took out a clean cloth, poured some water and wiped the dust off. The high beautiful view of the town from where she sat reminded her of the old times. Cool air chills phased her face all the while taking out her bread with veal and pink milk tea. Although her brother had made so much effort in making the well toasted bread added with kosher hotdogs, she just couldn't eat. To her, it was like a dark past had been released. She lost concetration on anything, and the only thing on her mind was past Keisuke drifting from her hand and leaving without an explanation. Just when she put a finger on the toast, the second period bell rang. "Lunchtime is over already and i didn't even have a bite," said Rin packing and standing up. Her stomach growled as she walked down the stairs going back to class.
The hallway was full of freshmen, some unable to find their classes. And among them was Rin, who in confusion went to the wrong class. It was the third years' class and everybody laughed at her. Luckily she got helped on her way out by a third year kind boy, straight to her supposed-class. She felt a feeling akin to excitement as she walked beside the so elegantly charming young man.
Rintarõ.... _Can you please tell me your name before you go?_
Third-year student.... _Er O-okay sure. it's Seigi._
Rintarõ.... _Thank you Seigi._
Seigi.... _You're welcome._
Rintaro chuckled a bit as she saw the boy leave. The name Seigi made her feel protected (_lit.Champion of justice_). When she entered class, many students were being lectured on the importance of timetables. But her mind roamed elsewhere. Her eyes searched around for Keisuke but couldn't find him.
Senami was someone bound by destiny to inherit the family business. Although deep down he had other plans, his future was already figured out, unlike Rintaro.
After a tiring day she started walking back home and the last person she wanted to see showed up offering to walk her home. The moment was too awkard to refuse and so she just nodded. As they walked, neither of them talked. Keisuke's first words were, "would you like to go to Shokuji's Ramen?" (_lit.Meal noodle shop_). First thing to cross her mind was, "how can he act so normal?". With the help of pressured fury she asked him straight on what she thought.
Rintaro.... _Why are you acting so calm like nothing happened?._
*Flashback 7 YEARS AGO*
_At the time she was in her mid years of elementary school and Keisuke was her only friend._
Keisuke.... _Rin, this Sunday there's gonna be a meteor shower and i was thinking of going to our favorite hill and watch it._
Rintarõ.... _Okay then i'll go with you. It's a promise._
Come sunset after the shower, they sat on the peak glaring at the amazing sight, when suddenly Keisuke struck her with his words. "I'm going to study abroad in England", he said. The line came like a stone to Rintaro. At that moment her heart broke like a fragile glass. Out of rage and confusion, she broke the friendship and ran off, a decision she would come to regret.
Flashback end(FBE)
After two years since his transfer, her parents were involved in an accident while coming from a conference meeting and both died on spot. She was thrown in a turmoil and quit school for a while and then joined back months later.
As they stood there all these memories flashed back to her and Keisuke just said "it's all in the past". Like all those years back, she ran off without uttering one word. Raindrops fell as her feet made a tip tap sound on the ground while running home. With memories rushing in, her mind turned blank and she felt a heavy headache. Soon after, everything flickered in blackness as she fell to the ground.
