Chapter 9: Childhood Pt.6

The next morning when I awoke, I quickly ran to my mother to ask her about my visions.

"Mom, I had a vision last night. I think we'll need to make a back up plan for my sponsorship."

"Now hold on a minute. What do you mean, you had a vision? How?"(Que'laag)

"I mean exactly what I said and I don't know how. It just happened when I went to sleep last night."

"Are you sure it wasn't just a dream? And what happened in it for you to say that we'll need a change of plans?"(Que'laag)

"I know because I was perfectly aware of what it was the moment it happened and we'll have to change our future plans, because during those visions, I saw that a couple of other families accepting a couple Nightbrothers as their daughter's champion and there were not many daughters born recently. I don't know if it has already happen or if it will happen, but just in case, we'll need to prepare."

"Alright, I will believe you about the visions for now, as I've known that you were force sensitive since you were born. Now tell me, do you know who the Nightsisters were or what they looked like?"(Que'laag)

And so I told her about everything that I saw during the first vision and gave her a description of the Nightsisters that I saw and low and behold, they were indeed the other families that we were going to be talking to. This really put a wrench into our previous plan, cause if they already have a champion that they think is worthy to be their daughter's blade and shield, then they'll have no real need for another Nightbrother. Plus, with someone else as the champion, then I'll have less of a bargaining chip in order to have my mother join their family and the amount of resources I'll get will be the same as now if not less.

"This will be troublesome, cause while it might not have happened yet, it's still a possibility and we don't know when this will happen.*sigh*"(Que'laag)

"Alright, so our first plan is most likely a bust, so let's go with plan B."

"What's plan B? Why haven't I already heard of this plan of yours?"(Que'laag)

"Well I just came up with it after remembering about Ms. Que'lana. Since we were trying to join a bigger family already, then how about we just get a bunch of smaller families who are willing, and not as troublesome as troublesome as the higher rank families, and have us all join together as one and become a new middle rank family? Every Nightsister is given a certain amount of resources and land based on their rank and family size, so while individually all of us are lower rank families, with enough of us we'll have the same amount of resources and land as the middle families. We'll have to vet them so that we don't get any that have poor attitudes and beliefs to the Nightbrothers and once I joined in the arena and win some honor for the family, we could raise high enough to have someone contend for the role of successor."

"That's brilliant! I've known you were smart and don't act your age, but how are you this smart and can come up with this kind of strategy?"(Que'laag)

"I was born gifted with knowledge, simple as that. Besides that, we have to be wary of the higher ranks who'll want to suppress us or stop us from raising up the ranks and we will need to find a Nightsister in my generation to make me her champion."

A little while after we finished our conversation, Que'lana arrived at our home with Ma'lak in tow. My mother quickly informed her of the current situation, which caught her off guard by both the fact that I was a force sensitive that was capable of having visions and by the plan that I had made. She was greatly intrigued by my intelligence and talent. She probably had hope for this plan and was already thinking of ways to achieve it. We postponed my training for the day as we had to discuss the particulars of this idea and plan ahead so that there was no bumps later down the road.

The first goal was to pick the families to join together with. There were many families of Dathomir. Most of the Lower ranked families were very small and most of the time only included one to three people and with the way everyone was raised, there were few that felt pity for the Nightbrothers plight. Even the Nightbrothers said nothing about their situations as they had grown accustomed to it and been raised to believe it was their duty to serve a Nightsister and bring her and her family honor so that one day their mistress could sit on the throne. Of course that didn't mean that there was no Nightbrothers that hated their life and in turn the Nightsisters that sought to enslave them.

The second goal was to get the families to agree to join there cause in order to have the same goal. Now there was risk of betrayal from some, should the higher ranking families offer them enough incentive. Just because they're all Nightsisters does not mean that they'll all be at peace with each other, far from it. There were many covens on Dathomir and most follow a different set of beliefs and teachings and within those covens are many families the fight for a higher place within it. To fight for their higher ranking, many of the higher families needed to get rid of the competition or commit some dirty deals to further their own goals, but a lot of their acts were frowned upon and dealt with the punishment of exile hovering over their head. Exiled Nightsisters lose all their standing and have to live far away from their old coven. Sometimes they would join another coven, but their actions would be known to every coven and would cause them to receive a low ranking and little resources, so the main way they achieved their goal is to have lower ranks commit the crimes for them instead with the promise of adding them to their family if they succeed. This of course didn't always succeed and ended with that pawn's exile and the family abandoning her.

The third goal was to make me a champion one of their family's daughters. Little to no lower rank family could afford a Nightbrother champion as they didn't have the necessary resources to raise them, so they always had to stay at the bottom rungs of society with no chance of raising up later on. Most didn't live lives much better than the Nightbrothers and as consequence, treated them better than the rest of the Nightsisters.

All of these things were achievable, but would take time and I had an answer for most of these situations. So with a little time and effort, we'll be on our way to greatness.
