Chapter 162: 161. Xenon

(Gwen POV)

Forr the next two hours, we slowly flew forward, constantly stopping to circle this or that piece of debris that obstructed our path or to break through the thickness of the centuries-old debris.

Sometimes we saw small pieces of stone and metal that only Lex seemed to be able to see, but more often than not, huge and fragmented ancient ships appeared in front of us, in comparison with which we were like ants in front of an elephant.

Seeing the fate of even such giants that have sunk into this eternal darkness, Tetrax thanked Lex for persuading him not to fly here on his ship, and I can understand him. Seeing this cemetery close, I can easily imagine our sad fate in the event of a collision with this protective wall.

Azmuth is truly brilliant genius if he could come up with such a simple way to keep anyone away from his planet, in fact, just turn off the light. Of course, this was done on a vast territory of outer space, but the decision itself is banal to the point of insanity. Now, it's even harder for me to imagine what this brilliant alien is like.

- We are almost there. - Lex's voice came over the communicator, drawing our attention.

Looking ahead, I saw how in the darkness of space, a faint glow slowly appeared, the intensity of which gradually increased, and soon we had the opportunity to consider Xenon. The planet itself was quite small, ten times smaller than the same Moon, and had the shape of an irregular oval.

Thanks to the unusual green glow, which somehow could still make its way through the eternal darkness here, the planet had an unusual color and a certain mystical beauty, which was further enhanced by two systems of rings that surrounded the planet, while intersecting in the center.

- What a beauty! - I exclaimed with delight as we circled another large asteroid under Lex's guidance.

- You really don't see this every day. - agreed Tetrax, who seemed to be swayed in some way by our unusual mode of travel.

- If it wasn't for the death field surrounding the planet, I would agree with you. - Lex said ironically, then added: - We're entering the atmosphere, the descent will be a bit rough.

Immediately after Lex's words, under the influence of Xenon's gravity, we began to fly much faster, getting closer and closer to the surface of the planet.

And before we feel all the delights of falling from the height of the exosphere, a spherical barrier appeared around us, which protected us both from friction and from the load on our bodies. Still, only Tetrax can survive such a fall among us. Well, maybe Gluto, given his jelly physiology, but it's better not to check it.

As the outer layer of the magical barrier ignited, Lex began to gradually reduce our speed using his telekinesis. It was tricky given our great speed and the need to do it very carefully so as not to create an overload, but Lex managed and we slowed down, eventually landing peacefully on the planet.

- Welcome to Xenon! - Lex said with a smile, waving his hand and pointing at the view around us.

The entire surface of the planet was like a canyon, at the bottom of which was yellow-green moss, from which strange mushrooms grew, and large trees covered with mucus. Also, huge cylindrical rocks protruded from the ground, located everywhere in a chaotic manner, and it was on one of these rocks that we landed.

- It seems that the air here is breathable, although there are many unknown gases in the atmosphere, but they do not pose a danger. - Tetrax said after checking the readings on his PDA, immediately removing his mask.

- Why is it so light in here? Shouldn't it be dark in here because all the light is being absorbed? - I asked, also removing my mask, but leaving the rest of my costume, just in case.

- It's because of the gases that Tetrax found. Due to the combination of these gases, Xenon glows with such a green glow that is visible even from space, even with the device installed by Azmuth. Also, due to the presence of these gases, here, despite the complete lack of access to sunlight from the nearest star, it is always light and maintains approximately the same temperature, suitable for local flora and fauna. - Lex explained in detail.

- This is a very amazing place. I have never seen anything so unique and I don't think I will ever meet again. - Tetrax said with admiration in his voice.

- It's because it's artificial. - Lex said with a shrug.

- Artificial? Are you saying that Azmuth created this planet? - I asked in disbelief.

- Didn't create it, but remade it for myself. The choice fell on Xenon, because due to the presence of the unusual gases here, Azmuth could create a light-absorbing device without worrying about destroying the local ecosystem. With a little help from him and the Florauna' who have been resettled here, local life itself adapted to the absence of the light of the sun and created its own source of light. In addition, Xenon is home to some of the rarest plants in the galaxy, most of which were planted by Azmuth himself. - Lex said, holding up a piece of moss that also glowed faintly.

- He really is a genius. - I said impressed.

- These are still flowers, if you knew what else he could create, Xenon would not have impressed you much. But, we have to admit, he did a great job here, it's just a pity that he did it in order to escape from the world. - Lex said with a sigh.

- Looks like Azmuth really wanted to be left alone. Will he be glad we disturbed him? - Tetrax asked.

- Like any genius, Azmuth is very arrogant, stubborn and has a terrible temper, so he won't be happy to see us anyway. Especially when he finds out what happened to the Omnitrix, unless of course he already knows. - Lex shook his head.

- And how can we convince him to help? - Tetrax asked, raising his crystal eyebrow.

- Leave it to me. I have leverage to help convince him. - Lex said, clearly hiding a wicked smirk behind his mask.

- I hope you're right. - Tetrax said a little uncertainly, and then asked: - How do you know so much about the watchmaker? Have you met him before?

- No, but I have met people who know him very well, and they have told me a lot, including that he is hiding on this planet and where he should be approximately now. - Lex said, clearly hinting at his alternate variants.

- Then where are we now? - I asked.

- To the same place as before. - Lex said, pointing to the beam of magic that reappeared, which pointed somewhere to the east (it seems).

- Florauna? - I guessed, remembering how Lex had said the name of this race before.

- Yes, Azmuth must live above the nest of these aliens. He uses them as his guards. - Lex said.

- Then we should hurry. Only this time, I'll fly under my own power. - Tetrax said as he jumped on his hoverboard.

It was obviously hard for him to have our free flight through space. The same can be said about Gluto, who was locked in his space suit and from the moment we landed, he did not move.

- Are you okay, Gluto? - I asked, touching the suit, which caused it to fall on its back. Before I had a chance to panic, the suit opened up and Gluto himself appeared, appearing to be a puddle of slime.

- Don't worry, Gwen, he's all right. He just got a little out of shape due to weightlessness and a sharp drop in gravity. Under such conditions, without his exoskeleton, he cannot maintain a solid form. - Lex said, raising Gluto with telekinesis and putting the suit back into the ring.

- Will he get better? - Tetrax asked, worried about his pilot.

- He will take time, but yes, he will be fine. For the time being, I will keep him in the sphere so that he can grow stronger. - Lex said, surrounding Gluto with a magic sphere, at the bottom of which he splashed.

- That's good news, but we've got to go. - Tetrax said, once again urging us on, because of the obvious impatience that he is now experiencing and he can be understood.

Nodding my head, I pulled out my hoverboard, just like Lex, so we could fly the Tetrax at the same speed. Having jumped onto the flying boards, we descended from the cliff, and gradually increasing the speed, we flew after the magic pointer.

The flight went smoothly and no one bothered us, although we could see the locals, who were live mushrooms, just like those we met in the Opinicon Camp. According to Lex, this was not surprising, because these creatures also come from the planet Flors Verdance and usually they live together with Florauna'.

Since the mushrooms did not show aggression, apparently they were not under the control of Mycelium, we did not touch them. We did not see anyone else, and after an hour of flight, the pointing beam led us to the foot of a cylindrical rock typical of this planet.

The only thing that stood out was the moat surrounding the rock, as well as the natural stone bridge leading to the cave.

- We are in place. - Lex said as he jumped off the hoverboard.

- So Azmuth lives here? - I asked as I folded the board.

- Yes, but don't be fooled by the appearance, this is no ordinary rock. It's a death trap filled with aggressive plants, technology, and Floruans to keep us out of Azmuth. - Lex said seriously.

- We'll have to go inside anyway. - Shrugging my shoulders, I said confident that we are not waiting, Lex will be able to protect me.

- Right. - Lex said with a little smile, and then turned to Tetrax: - You and Gluto better stay here and make sure that no one follows us. Also, keep an eye on the sky.

- Do you think Vilgax will be able to get through the eternal darkness? - I asked skeptically.

- I wouldn't be too surprised by that. At a minimum, he can simply clear the way by sending his army of robots ahead of him. - Lex said with a shrug.

- Don't worry, Lex, I won't let anyone near you. - Tetrax said confidently.

- Stay in touch. If something happens, call right away. - Lex said nodding his head and headed into the cave.

- Grlp. - gurgled Gluto, who never came to his senses, who remained swimming in the sphere that remained with Tetrax.

- What did he say? - I asked as I followed Lex.

- Wish we good luck. - the guy said, after that he cast a spell that created hundreds of small glowing balls that flew in front of us to light up the entire cave.

- Stay tuned and stay close. - Lex finally said, to which I nodded, and together we entered the cave that would lead us to Azmuth.
