Chapter 77: Chapter 77 - Titles and Tasks
Despite the size and amount of summons I had, they didn't take up as much of the training room as I had expected. Most looked around for a few seconds before their gazes landed on me. Rathalos and Rex, however, immediately began a staring match as their bodies went completely still. I frowned and sent a mental command to get their attention on to me. They could fight or spar later as long as they didn't get too serious about it. In fact, now that I was planning to let them be out for most of the time, they'd have plenty of time to do things like that, well after they got their tasks complete.
"I want everyone to get into a line please," I said before anyone could say anything or make a move towards me. "I have some stuff to say and this is the easier way to say it. After that, if any of you have any questions then you can ask me."
They all nodded, and I motioned Esdeath and Lelith to stand in line as well.
Once they were all in line and facing me, I took a deep breath before moving my gaze across them. It was quite the variety if I was being honest. I had summons from anime, manga, tv shows, and video games. From the big to the small, from the only slightly unusual to the downright crazy looking, but I wouldn't trade any of them.
"So I've gathered you all here today not just to introduce you to each other, but to finally set you tasks and jobs. I've been summoning you and sending you to storage whenever I've wanted to up until now, but that's not going to be efficient anymore," I said. "I'm going to be letting you out for as much time as I can, and I will be giving each of you positions and tasks to do. If I give you a task you're not comfortable with then please tell me, and I will do what I can to change that. I won't force anyone to do anything they don't want to, and these positions aren't set in stone. If you want to try something else and see if that suits you better then that's fine, but make sure you inform someone, whether that be me or Susana and Richard. For now, they will be the people you will be most communicating with. The announcement will change that, and will make it easier for you since I plan on giving you all the official titles that will give you power, authority, and make it known you are my elites."
My summons all nodded in agreement with my words with some looking excited while others looked hesitant. It would be easier for some than others, but I was ready to help any who needed it.
"These positions will be announced at the announcement, but I will be telling you now," I said, turning my attention to Rathalos who was furthest to the right.
"Remember, these positions aren't set in stone, with that said, let's begin with what quite a few of you will be doing," I said. "Now most of you will be taking a combat role. There are still many bandits and problems roaming around the kingdom. Tommorow I will be setting up a meeting with those in charge of patrols and sending out soldiers to quell bandits and other such things and will be putting you alongside them. They will have no authority over you but will be there to assist you in any way. There's going to be a lot of changes and adjusting since this world is wide and I have no doubt there are plenty of things to learn."
They all nodded, understanding my words.
"Those who will be actively hunting in the kingdom will be Rath, Rex, Gible. You three will be given the title of Royal Huntsman. You will be working alongside a few talon riders who will communicate on you behalf."
The three summons all let out growls of agreement, except Gible who as usual let out a "Gible!"
"Next will be those who will be doing something similar but within the cities. Leone, Zombieman, Blair, and Domino will be all be given the title of Royal Investigators. Your jobs will be to root out the bad eggs in the batches. To get rid of those who only cause trouble within towns and villages. To clean them up at the more public level and the criminal level, though Danzo will also be dealing with that. You all have someone experience with a job like this, apart from you Blair, but your ability to turn into a cat can be utilized in many ways, and you will be the heavy firepower of your group, though you won't always be together."
The four reacted in a similar way, looking pleased and proud to have been given the title. Even Blair who I had expected to be dubious looked interested, though she was probably just happy I'd thought of her.
"Also I should point out, there will be times where you will help out another group or have to change your task. As I'll say again, these positions aren't set in stone. Now, let's move on to Lilah who will be given the position of royal bodyguards. I'm aware you do not want to leave my side."
She nodded and despite not being able to see her face, I could tell she was pleased.
"Also, Kuriboh will be staying at my side. I've been neglecting you, and I'm sorry for that. Perhaps you have some hidden power, but even if you don't, I shouldn't be neglecting you."
Kuriboh squeaked happily and I smiled before turning my attention to Lelith.
"Lelith will be given the title of Royal Interrogator, and she will be helped on occasion by Esdeath who will be given the title of Head General. She has led armies before and is quite simply a monster when it comes to warfare. In a good way mind you."
Esdeath was beaming at me and looked like she wanted to jump me right then and there. Lelith while not looking as enthusiastic as Esdeath was clearly happy with her position which wasn't a surprise considering she was dark Eldar.
"Next is Asia and Rindo. Rindo you of course will be given the position of head cook in the palace. I must say I am looking forward to trying your food, and Asia will be royal healer, though when needed she will take a combat role."
Rindo looked very pleased while Asia looked nervous, though she tried to hide it with a hesitant smile.
"Don't worry, Asia," I said. "I'll be here to help you, and you can start slow if you wish."
Her smile grew, and she nodded, confidence showing in her eyes. "Yes, Nathan."
"Finally we get onto the more unusual position. Twice you will be given the position of Royal Legion since you are basically an army with infinite soldiers. 2B you will be given the title of Royal Huntsman like the other three but will be working in a more specific role. Your job will be to deal with specific missions that pop up. When not dealing with something like that you will be working alongside either Rath's group or Leone's group. That brings me onto leaders, you can pick your own leader if you want to or have none at all. It's up to you, but I want you all to be working together. Also since we aren't currently able to communicate to each other long-distance, I'll be speaking to Susana and Richard to see if we can get devices for that purpose so you can fill me in when you need to."
I took a deep breath and nodded, happy things had gone well. "With that said, you can spend these two days doing as you wish. Rath if you want I'll send you back to storage then summon you in the bride, and Rex, I'll summon you there as well. You can relax or spar if you want just don't get too serious, ok?"
Rex and Rath both nodded. "Everyone else, do as you wish. If you need anything just speak to one of the palace staff. I will be in my study, working, if you need to speak with me, down hesitate to come. Danzo if you would please follow me after I've spoken to everyone for a few minutes, it will take longer to explain your position and title."
I spent a few minutes saying goodbye to everyone and just chatting before I sent both Rath and Rex to storage. I left with Danzo following behind me.
I stopped by at the birdcage first, getting a few smiles for the riders who were there. I had Danzo wait outside as I summoned Rath and Rex then to my shame, spent half an hour, with three of them before I left. Hey, I was only human and it was only a quickie.
After I was done, I headed for my study, which as Richard had said was close to my chambers. It was a wide room, with a large bookshelf on one side, and a large desk at its center. There were a few cupboards on the side opposite the bookshelf and a plush-looking chair, but I ignored that in favor of the big leather chair behind the desk.
"Ok," I said, taking a seat and turning to look at Danzo. "Your title will officially be Royal Spymaster, but that's only scratching the surface of what you'll be doing. Later tonight I will be speaking with Susana and Richard on recruitment for a group that you will be in charge of. They will have training already, but I expect you'll be training them yourself as well. You, Dazno, will be in charge of making sure that the shadows remain empty of all but our people. I want you to deal with any assassins or spies within not only the palace but the kingdom. I will command that you don't harm any innocents or those loyal, but besides that, you have free reign. Anything of interest you think I should be aware of, I expect you to tell me, and I will occasionally ask for a report, understand?"
"Of course my lord," Danzo said. "Everything I shall do shall be for you. You are my lord, my purpose for existing. As I gave everything for the village, I shall give everything for you. I will obey any commands you have."
"Good," I said. Whatever the system did, truly did make them completely and utterly loyal, which was definitely a good thing. If he wasn't completely and utterly loyal then it would be hard to trust him.
"Alright, that's it," I said. "Take this day to get a look at the castle, and start planning. I have a lot of work to do."
Danzo bowed before leaving.
A moment later I glanced down at the desk and sighed. There were already books and documents set there, with a note attached from Susana and Richard informing me this was the first of the information I should read, and that they would have more coming in throughout the day along with reports they would personally deliver.
"Time for the boring part of being a king," I said, before getting to work.
