Chapter 2: Davrik

(A/N: dialogue that looks like 'dialogue' is often referring to the MC and Sam conversing with each other in the MC's mind, while Dialogue using " " is just standard, as you should know.)

The Captain leapt forward and roared as he brought his swords up and slashed them down, creating a powerful shockwave as they slammed into where I had just been standing. I ran around the big guy and jumped up toward his back, looking to slice through his shield and his neck, but I was repelled and sent crashing to the ground.

I recovered just as the Captain tried to crush me with its foot. I rolled and slashed out at its leg, but all I hit was its ridiculously resistant shield. I got up and dashed away as I sheathed one of my blades and took out the shock pistol and fired a whole mag into its shield.

The Captain shrugged it off and laughed as it taunted me with its other two arms. 'Calm down! He's trying to taunt you!' Sam said in a concerned voice. 'I know damnit!' I yelled in reply as I reloaded my pistol and rushed toward the Fallen Captain while blasting its shield.

The Captain dodged when I tried to slash it, making me believe that its shield was about to crack. I leapt forward with a wild smile as I continued to fire at the Captain and primed my arm for an overhead slash. The Captain showed a grotesque smile of its own as my sword slammed against its shield. My sword bounced off, leaving me vulnerable as the bastard slammed its fist into my gut.

I spit out a good bit of blood as I was sent flying back to the ground. I heard a loud beeping in my head, signaling that I was probably in critical condition from that one strike. I heard Sam's voice frantically yelling for me to get up, but it felt like my bones were shattered to pieces. I was just about to give up when I felt a soothing power course through my veins and repair my damaged body as well as my shield, leaving me feeling even stronger than before.

I saw the Captain's foot inches away from my face, so I had no choice but to block and hope for the best. I dropped my pistol and drew my other sword and put the two together into an x-shape as the Captain's foot slammed down. I felt an unimaginable amount of strain on my entire body as I felt the swords slowly lowering down toward my chest.

I yelled out and pushed back with all of my strength, pushing the Captain back slightly. The Captain squinted in confusion before pushing down with its full strength, resulting in a stalemate. I reached deep inside of myself and felt a vicious, blazing rage, that I had never felt before, forcing its way from my body in a primal roar, giving me the strength to toss the Captain back and onto the floor.

I flipped off of the ground and leapt forward, leaving cracks in the ground as I landed on top of the Captain and shattered his shield. I flipped my swords around in my hands and stabbed them downward, however, the bastard used his two free hands to grab the blades and fling me aside. I flipped midair and landed on my feet before leaping toward the Captain once more; refusing to give the thing a chance to breath.

I released a bone-shaking roar as I became a flurry of slashes, stabs, kicks, and punches. The Captain was beginning to get overwhelmed as the cuts and scrapes began to add up, leaving the crowd of Fallen utterly speechless and in confusion, for this Captain was their strongest...

Just as I was about to lop the Captain's head off of its miserable shoulders, it managed to dodge and slash out. I turned and blocked the blow before countering with a stab, but the Captain teleported away and attempted to activate its shield once more.

"Oh no you don't!" I yelled as I dashed forward and kick it in its ugly face before lopping one of its arms off. The Captain shrieked out and attempted to swat me away, but I ducked and lopped its other arm off, leaving it with the two that held its weapons.

The Captain charged toward me with a furious scream and began to attack me with fierce and precise attacks, forcing me to focus on defending. I continued to block and parry each of its strikes, but one kick had made its way through my guard, allowing for the Captain to hack one of my own arms off.

I yelled out in pain and dropped my other sword from shock and clutched my bloodied stump as I fought the tears that began to form in my eyes. I threw up blood and stomach acid as Sam tried to heal me with the Light, but it was like something was hindering his connection.

I looked the Captain in the eyes and spat at it with a smile plastered onto my pale and pained face. The Captain growled and said "Hu...man...do...well...my...na...me...is...Dav...rik...hon...orable...dea...th..." before raised its sword high in the air.

I felt the sword barely nick my face before it was blown into bits, slightly burning my face in the process. Davrik looked around frantically before calling out and ordering his Fallen in their native tongue. The mob of Fallen proceeded to fan out and search around for whatever had shot. I held back the urge to vomit again as Sam asked 'A-Are we...saved...? I didn't feel any Light signatures, nor did I detect an enemy...'

I was just as confused as little Sam, but I had no time to worry about who the hell saved me. I grabbed my arm from the ground and bolted toward where the least amount of Fallen were. 'Can you reattach my arm!?' I asked Sam as I dodged all kinds of projectiles.

'I-I don't know! I can't seem to use the Light!' Sam said in a panicked voice. I cursed as I continued to run, thinking that I should at least get out of the city first. Two Vandals jumped out from behind a building in front of me and began to run toward me with their shock blades when they suddenly exploded into flames.

I ducked and looked around, but I saw nothing besides from the various decaying houses. I saw dust falling from a building in front of me so I looked up and caught a glimpse of a humanoid silhouette flit across the top of the buildings. I ignored whatever that was and continued to run, making sure I came across no more Fallen.

I neared a open building and ran inside. I stopped to breathe and, when I looked around, I found a tunnel that lead back toward the area where I had battled Davrik, so I weighed my odds before jumping down. It was a slimy and foul smelling place, but it was much more pleasant than dying again so I held my complaints for when I made it out alive.

I trekked through mud, or at least what I hoped was mud, while carefully keeping track of my radar as well as which turns I had made within the winding tunnel. I eventually had to stop due to the pain in my body growing, as well as fallen voices from above.

I heard the Fallen conversing when they suddenly shrieked in pain and fell to the ground. I grit my teeth against the pain and forced myself forward. I continued on for half an hour until I came across a large, fortified vault door. Sam jumped out from my body and scanned the door before saying "It's made out of a type of Damascus steel that has been enforced with Light energy...I've never seen anything like it before!"

"So, can you find a way to heal me now? This hurts pretty damn bad you know..." I said as I looked at the vault door. Sam turned and emit a low beep before saying "Oh! I can feel it! I can feel the Light! Here, come here so I can heal you!"

I thanked whatever God was watching over me as I held my severed arm up to the stump and watched as a familiar light surrounded my body and healed all of my wounds almost instantly. The light faded and I held my arm up to my face and moved it around, confirming that it was actually attached to my shoulder.

I thanked Sam before moving over to the door and placing my hand on its surface. The door was unnaturally hot to the touch, but it was more of a pleasing hot than a burning hot. I ran my hand over a large, circular indention in the middle of the door and felt some sort of 'connection' with the energy inside.

I stopped and placed my hand directly on the indention and felt the warmth of the door slowly seep into my hand before spreading out to my entire body. The door then rumbled and slid open, revealing a massive white room with seemingly hundreds of glass cases that harbored guns, swords, knives, armor, practically anything and everything you would ever need.

Sam practically lit up with excitement as he hurriedly floated over to scan the multitudes of weapons and armors with his child-like laughter echoing through the vast chamber. I walked over to a large case that held a suit of armor that was solid black for the top half before it slowly faded into a milky white for the bottom half. The armor came with a solid black hood as well as a mask with two glowing white eyes and four smaller eyes below them, as well as four serrated spikes on each forearm and with the gloves ending in long, sharp claws. (Essentially the cover)

I personally thought that the armor looked pretty badass so I looked over to Sam and yelled "Hey, Sam, can you come and scan this for me?" The lively robot looked up before spinning and teleporting toward me while asking "Yeah, what did you find?" in an excited voice.

I pointed at the armor and I saw Sam's blue 'eye' light up with intrigue as he scanned the armor. "Woah...you might not want to put that on, Mr. Blake...." I furrowed my brow and asked "Why not? Is there a hole in the crotch region?" while looking for any rips or tears in the armor.

Sam shook and said "No, this was forged from pure Darkness energy, and it took form into what looks to be some kind of Taken replica..." I thought that the armor 'felt' different, so I guess I my question were answered. I adopted a conflicted expression and muttered "But it look's so damn cool..."

Sam released a sigh and said "Look, bud, I just revived you and I don't feel like having to explain why my Guardian uses the Darkness, so let's just go and find you another set of...WHAT ARE YOU DOING!!!??"

I took my shock blade and slammed it into the glass, shattering it before I reached out and grabbed the chest piece of the armor. It felt like I was being sucked into some sort of vacuum as a voice kept whispering in my heard. "Come to salvation. We have been waiting. Come, Chosen one. We hold power, come and claim it. You can destroy your enemies with our power. Take it. Take it. Take it!"

The armor began to slowly materialize onto my body as the whispers got louder and louder. I clutched my head and screamed out in pain as my ears began to bleed. "No! I will not surrender to you damnit! Let go of me!!" I fell to my knees and screamed out once more as Sam tried to use the Light to rid the Darkness from my body, but there was too much.

Sam's Light began to convert into Darkness as it was absorbed into the armor, accelerating the process of its materialization. It felt like my mind was being split into pieces as my body began to convulse violently. "NO!" I yelled as I pounded my fist on the floor and began to shakily stand up.

"I may have been a fool to pick you, but I will not let you devour me and use me as your toy! Now FUCK OFF!!" A wave of Light burst out from my body and mixed with the Darkness, ridding my body of its effects but keeping its power and stabilizing it, making it my own.

I huffed and wiped the sweat pouring from my face as I looked over toward Sam and stuck my thumb up with a victorious look. Before ultimately passing out, that is.
