Chapter 2: Chapter 1 - The Encounter
The lady is a few inches shorter than me but since she's wearing high-heeled school shoes, kaya para ko na rin siyang ka height lang. Her make-up highlighted her features but her mean eyes and bratty attitude make her less charming in my impression. Obviously, ito yung typical na spoiled brat na madalas mo makikita sa tv drama.
"You—have you seen the man here earlier?" Mataray na tanong nito.
"Lady Treena—" a shaky voice interrupted. I then notice a nerdy-like girl behind this Lady Treena. My eyes constricted. The girl is also wearing an AIS uniform. To be able to slave around a fellow AIS student, this Lady Treena must not be so simple.
"Shut up! You, useless piece of trash!"
"At ikaw, when are you planning to answer me?!" Balik na tanong naman nito sa akin.
"I--I only saw—" I intentionally and hesitantly pause.
"What did you see? Tell me quick!"
"But Miss, we aren't allowed to divulge any information about our cust—"
"I will compensate you, just tell me what you saw!"
Halos tumalon sa saya ang dibdib ko ng marinig ang sinabi niya. Ha! As expected from this type of person. Impulsive and reckless in their decision just for the sake of getting what they want.
"But—but I only saw his back and his—"
"Oh my God! You, are you willing to come with me? You must be one of those opportunists who want to study in AIS but can't so you chose to work here, thus, having an opportunity to encounter a lucky chance like this right?"
My mouth almost twitch when I heard her inference. As expected from an AIS student. They can be anything but certainly not stupid. Indeed, ang hotel na ito ang pinakamalapit na building mula sa AIS so you can expect na occasionally, certain prominent people will gather here or most AIS students stay here before or after the school year. It's a perfect place to catch a windfall like this kaya naman I chose to temporarily work here and observe. Madali lang din naman akong nakapasok kasi it's not the first time na this hotel accepted employees around my age because, let's just say, some perverted & married old rich guys were willing to be sugar daddies sa mga ambisyosang social climber na gustong makapag-aral sa AIS who either disguise themselves as hotel staff or frequently visit here and socialize. This Lady Treena must have thought the same towards me, well, she's quite right, I am indeed an opportunist, seeking a way to find out what happened behind my father and brother's disappearance. And I wouldn't let this chance slip away just because of some prejudice of this spoiled brat towards me.
Therefore, I smiled shyly as if to show her, I'm ashamed for having my intention expose.
"Miss I—"
"Tsk. I knew it. Since you at least saw that Devil's back, I will give you this chance to unveil his identity with me. If you can't, well—" she turned her back to me and faced the now trembling nerdy girl. Sinambunutan niya ito at iniharap sa akin. The nerdy girl's eyes are filled with terror and hatred towards me as if blaming me for her current predicament. Tsaka ko lang din naobserbahan ng malapitan na hindi pala ito nerd but she's in disguise to be one. Just based on the reaction she's giving towards me, she looked like one of those ambitious social climbers after being abandoned by their sugar dad; and now hating the new girl who came to steal the show. Hindi ko alam if I should praise her for at least not resorting to selling her body for her ambition or kaawaan siya dahil under siya ni Lady Treena. Either way, since she's giving me this attitude, I am neither a saint to help those who don't appreciate it. I only pity her for not being smart enough to keep her position. At isa pa, this might be Lady Treena's way of testing me as I see her observing my reaction. But I remained poker face as if to show how subordinates don't question their master's affair. Since I needed Lady Treena's standing to help me get through the AIS enrollment process, I must play the part.
Lady Treena smirked, and before I knew it, she banged the head of the girl to the wall next to the bathroom door with just enough force to knock her unconscious. Hmm.. this Lady Treena might not be so vicious as I thought.
"Take off her uniform and assume her identity for now. I'll give you a night to settle everything here, and tomorrow at the break of dawn, my butler will come and get you." Mataray na saad nito.
"Milady, paano itong—" dagdag ko sabay turo sa katawan ng babaeng nakahandusay pa sa sahig.
"Hmmp—" irap nito sa sabay kuha ng card sa clutch bag niya at inihagis sa katawan ng babae.
Treena Louise Vernacelli. Iyon ang nakasulat sa card. An indicator that she's the one who did it, at sa hotel na ito, staff like me surely knows what it means. Only a handful of VIP Guests has that kind of card in this hotel, therefore, kapag nakakita kami ng ganyang card, whether the victim is dead or still alive, we have to treat it as if we didn't hear or see anything. This clearly shows that I still underestimated the standing that Lady Treena holds. Just whose daughter and what kind of background does she have?
Naramdaman niya ata ang curiousness sa mukha ko, Treena just give me a smirk at inirapan ako. Her heels clicking loudly against the hotel's luxurious tiled floor but before she reached the door, humarap bigla ulit ito sa banda ko at pinasadahan ulit ako ng tingin.
"One more thing, make sure to disguise yourself to a super nerd and that—" turo nito sa dibdib ko. Napatingin naman ako sa dibdib ko and give her a biweldered look. I saw her trying to hide her shame and raise her chin arrogantly "—do something to make it look smaller. It must not be bigger than mine, hmph!" mabilisang dagdag nito at padabog na isinara ang pinto.
My lips twitched unknowingly. I don't know if I should laugh or get irritated with her unreasonable request. Eventually, I let out a soft laugh. That brat seems not bad as I thought.
