Chapter 3: Battle of Dan Kurh (2)

"Now!" Amako yelled as he ordered the orc next to him to blow the horn.

Afterwards, thousands of Zoga orcs lying wait on the shrubs in the distance all stood up and threw their javelins on a host of Terkit warriors who were busy pursuing a group of retreating Gork warriors.

Screams and cries immediately erupted as a hail of javelins rained down upon the unsuspecting Terkit warriors, piercing and brutally killing the light armored orcs.

A lucky few hundred that managed to deflect the javelins using their shields pushed their way towards the shrubs where the Zoga javelin-throwers were positioned.

Terkits who were using thin wooden shields were immediately killed as the javelin-throwers focused half of their barrage towards the advancing shield wall of Terkit warriors.

When the Terkits were only about a dozen meters away from their position, the front row of the javelin-throwers quickly threw their javelins down on the ground before swapping it with swords, axes and spears, ready to receive the incoming Terkit warriors.

A brutal melee then erupted as the front row of the javelin-throwers clashed with the Terkits, followed afterwards with the second row, also joining in the fray.

The Terkits, who were now dropping in the dozens in each passing seconds were slowly starting to crumble as the Zogas slowly pushed them back.

Realizing they were outnumbered and outmatched at the same time, they immediately panicked and made a run towards the nearby grove on their left.

To which and where another hidden group of Zoga slingers that numbered in the hundreds were waiting.

Amako smiled as he watched the remaining Terkit warriors fall under a hail of stones thrown by the hidden slingers.

The group of Gorks who but a few minutes ago were getting routed by the Terkits now joined in the slaughter, ruthlessly massacring every wounded Terkits they stumble into.

By the time the slaughter was finished, Amako was already surveying the aftermath of the battle.

Walking through the ground that was littered with countless bodies either belonging to his own race or the Terkits, he was followed closely by his close shieldguards and personal retainers.

Spotting the group of Gorka that he saved from the Terkits earlier making their way towards him, he waved at them and beckoned for them to quicken their pace.

"Thank you for saving us chief, I Thought we were meat for the Terkits earlier until you showed up." the lead warrior, an orc with a large scar on his flat face potruding from his left ear down towards his right cheek, and by the looks of it, it was still fresh, though there was a slight hint of shame on his voice.

"Which clan are you from?" Amako skipped aside the formalities and asked immediately.

The warrior, sensing the urgency in Amako's voice, hung his head low and answered quietly.

"I am from Prekta, they-" he pointed towards the other warriors behind him, "are from the Arau and Bruta tribes."

Amako then scoffed at the mention of the names of their clans and tribes.

"Too much bravery and pride your clans has that it even made the entire confederation army in shambles now." Amako mocked them before turning his back on them.

"Follow me, we'll find the rest and rally them for another attack." Amako said, his voice grumpy and hard.

Meanwhile, Bog with only a thousand cavalry left at his disposal decided to retreat towards a hill a few kilometers away from where the battle took place, picking up an additional three thousand Gork warriors along the way.

The Gork host were composed of warriors from different tribes and clans, some of them were previously rivals with each other before the confederation was formed, making their coordination with each other very poor.

Bog, who was furiously watching the Gork footwarriors lag behind their cavalry, immediately stirred after seeing a group of Terkit cavalry coming to harass them.

Bog, unable to leave the footwarriors to their fate, decided to intercept the Terkits and clashed with them, adding another hundred to their list of dead and wounded.

But luckily, Bog managed to repel the Terkits and routed them, killing half a thousand fleeing Terkits while pursuing them, thus they continued their way towards the hill once again.

Arriving at the hill, they once again encountered another host of Terkit cavalry waiting for them, their red battle standard fluttering in the breeze.

"So where to now?" a battered chieftain besides Bog impatienly asked.

"Keep your tongue hidden else I'll order it chopped, you fools were the main reason as to why our army shattered in the first place." Bog angrily snapped at the chieftain, causing him to be startled and nervous at the same time.

"Forgive me, I didn't me-" Before the cheiftain could finish his apology, multiple horns from the enemy's side started to blow.

Riding away from the chieftain, Bog made his way towards the already panicking Gork footwarriors who was now on the verge of fleeing after seeing the Terkit cavalry.

"Stand your ground, you are warriors! stand your ground and fight!" Luckily Bog followed closely by his thousand remaining cavalry managed to supress the fear and panic in the footwarriors.

And also at the sight of the famous Mahk cavalry coming to fight alongside them, the footwarrior's morale rose and started to cheer.

"You shame the entire Gork race at your display an hour ago." hearing this, the cheer slowly died down and many warriors hung their heads down low in humiliation and shame.

"That's why you must atone and seek redemption, now is the time to finally prove your worth and strength." Bog rode in front of the footwarriors and waved his battle axe high in the sky.

"No retreat, no cowardies, only victory!" the footwarriors then raised heads and started to cheer.

"Raagh!" the cheering caused tremors which unsettled the horses of the Terkit cavalry in the diatance, throwing off some riders on the ground before galloping off towards somewhere.

Miraculuosly, the Mahk cavalry horses didn't feel anything other than the weight of their riders on their back.

"Shield wall!" Bog ordered, which was immediately followed by the blowing of the horns and the beating of war drums.

Then three thousand Gork warriors clumsily formed a line eight orcs deep that faces towards the enemy.

It took them twelve minutes before the whole line was finished, by then the enemy horns blowing was joined by multiple trumpets which indicated the start of their assault.

"Spears and shields ready!"

At Bog's order, shields were raised and three thousand spears, axes, and swords were all leveled down towards the incoming Terkit cavalry.

"Cavalries, prepare to charge." Bog ordered the shieldguard next to him which in turn started to relay the orders to the rest.

"Will you join the charge my chief?" Brigo, his second in command and champion suddenly rode up next to him and asked.

"I'm better off here with the footwarriors, to keep them controlled and their morale high as long as I can." Bog explained.

"I see, then goodluck to you my chief." Brigo said before turning around and joining with the rest of the riders who was now busy readying themselves for the charge.

"Goodluck to you as well." Bog muttered quietly, a hint of sadness in his voice.

'They should probably keep half of the Terkits pre occupied as we take care of the other half here.'

Bog thought as he observed the thousands of incoming Terkit cavalry getting closer and closer in each passing seconds.

Drawing his gaze towards the Gorkan footwarriors, he can see their slightly vast formations that extended for at least a few hundred meters.

the glint of their copper spears from the sun above visible in every directions.

He can feel each warrior's breath, the rhythym, the nervousness and at the same time, their eagerness.

He can see the fire in each Gorkan's eyes, forcibly swallowing the fact that they were already dead the moment they disobeyed the High chieftain's command.

They have come to the point of no return, it is either die fighting, or die getting chased down by the Terkits.

It is obvious everyone would choose the former since there is still a chance of winning if they fight, and remember, it is always the way of the orcs to fight and die fighting.

"Charge!" Brigo, who was at the front of the entire cavalry force, screamed, raised his sword high and galloped off towards the incoming Terkits.

He was then followed by the rest of the cavalry, screaming their war cries and chants as they surged towards the incoming Terkit cavalry.

The terkits, seeing the Mahk cavalry charge towards them, decided to split half their entire force to intercept the incoming Mahks while the rest continued their charge towards the Gorkan footwarriors.

'Just as I predicted.' Bog thought as he watched the fight that was about to erupt in the distance.

The Gorkan warriors watched with anticipation as the two sides were only a few meters away from each other before collision.

And then...

A loud crashing noise immediately sounded, followed by cries of pain and rage as the two cavalry forces collided with each other, creating a tremor and vibration on the ground that even reached Bog's position.

Horses neighing and shrieking in pain as they were impaled by multiple blades.

Countless riders fell on the ground below and trampled by their own horses.

Warriors brutally slashed each other for domination and glory, and when the defeated goes down, he brings the victor down with him by tackling them furiously.

Withdrewing his gaze from the cavalry battle in the distance, Bog switched his gaze and focused his eyes on the incoming Terkit cavalry that was now fast approaching towards them.

"Brace yourselves!" Bog roared a few seconds before the Terkit cavalry came crashing down on them.
