Chapter 2: Chapter 2 Running Away

Ruby had met Milo in the wastelands that stood bordering the North of Rose Country and Cloud Country. Those wastelands were famous for their deadliness, because of this the main battles between the two countries did not happen there.

She had felt aggrieved by her parents' neglect and had stupidly thought that they would worry about her if she had run away. Not realising that they never cared for her.

Escaping from the mansion was easy enough for her to accomplish. From there she had stolen a guard's motorbike, she had observed the guard riding enough to get the gist of how to ride.

She rode away with no particular destination in mind, she just knew she needed to get away. Far away enough to make it harder for them to find her, that way they would worry more. That was what she had naively thought.

All her life she had never been outside of the mansion areas, she may have been taught maps but that could not compare to actual experience. So it was no surprise that she had gotten lost only a few minutes after running away, especially with the speed of the motorbike she was riding. It was amazing enough that she had managed to not fall off the motorbike.

She had tried to find her way back but unfortunately the route that she had taken was through the forest and back roads so there was no one she could ask directions from. She tirelessly continued to try and find her way back home but it was unsuccessful.

Soon afternoon turned to evening and evening turned to night. At that time she had not carefully planned her run away it was just an impulsive decision she had made prompted by an incedident that had happened earlier that day, so she had brought no food with her.

Despite the gloomy situation she was in she did not give up. No, she continued to look for a way back home not realising that she had instead travelled further and further away from home. She had unknowingly travelled the most dangerous and shortest route to reach her country's border, entering into the wastelands.

In the cold wastelands riding on motorbike that was running very low on fuel was a red haired girl. Her crimson hair reached her mid back. She wore a red gown with long sleeves. It's bodice was embroidered with golden flowers. It's skirt layered with a high quality soft material in different shades of red. She wore soft white knee high socks, her feet fitted with a pair of deep red shoes. But all that beauty and high quality clothing was hidden by a layer of dust and dirt.

Her hair was marinated in dust and had become a muddy brown in the dark night. Her clothes had also been stained brown by the dust.

The wasteland had very little vegetation, most of which were weeds, with only a handful of trees, dead ones, spotted every few kilometres. The ground was scarred with scorch marks and littered with the bones of many that had died, both human and animals.

In the distance she noticed a light. She rubbed her eyes and looked again. That's impossible, she thought. After traversing through the endless planes she had seen no light, other than the moonlight, and no sign of light other than bugs.

She began to think that the hunger was making her hallucinate, but after rubbing her eyes again and again she still saw the light up ahead.

It was then that she finally felt hope. After traveling by herself through the darkness for so long there was finally a chance that she would see another human being. Even though it had only been less than a day it had felt like a year to her. She was only a ten year old child and she had had to travel through a forest and then through a wasteland, in the night no less, alone.

She sped towards the light with renewed how and determination.

As she got closer she saw a small fire and sitting beside it was a boy. His clothes were old and in tatters. His feet bare and dirty, infact, his entire body was dirty. But that could not hide his beautiful silver hair growing in wild curls on his head and reaching his shoulders.

He sat with his hands raised out near the fire, warming himself with its heat. Although he was sitting down he was very tense. He seemed to be alert, ready to jump at the presence of anything new.

Suddenly his head lifted and looked around him. He had noticed the sound of the motorbike. He searched for the source of the noise, he stood quickly as he observed his surroundings, too nervous to stay sitting. That's when he saw her.
