Chapter 40: Chapter 40: Spider Sage

Sitting in a chair in the Command Center's medical bay I rubbed my hands together in nervousness.

Due to the sight in front of me.

Sage lying down on one of the medical beds, with Richard and Mary Parker standing next to her.

Richard holding a small cylindrical container containing one of his genetically engineered spiders.

The one he created while working under me.

Since the other are still under lock and key at Oscorp.

Because since Richard and Mary are missing in the eyes of the world the company can keeo the spiders since they were created using proprietary methods known only to Oscorp.

Which is true.

It's one of the reasons I didn't try to claim those spiders at Oscorp for my own company using legal channels. I also didn't steal them because I want spiderman to be born.

So yeah, right now those spiders are staying right where they are.

Oh and speaking of Oscrop I discovered Richard was both right and wrong about them.

He was right in the fact that Oscorp wanted to use his work for military applications, but wrong in the fact that the entire upper echelon of the company wanted to implement that plan in regards to his research.

From what my personal investigstion has revealed it looks like only a small splinter faction of Oscrop executives wants to turn Richard's work into a military cash cow. Everyone else at the company does not.

Not even Norman Osborn.

Unlike his actor in the Amazing-Spiderman films this Norman isn't inherently evil.

He is truly like his William Defoe was depicted in the Sam Reimi trilogy.

A hardworking scientist who just has a bit of trouble expressing himself.

But like I said not inherently evil.

He's actually a person I think I could call a friend with time.

But if he goes Green his ass is grass.

The same for his son, Harry.

Because I will not allow any version of the Green Goblin to appear in this world.

That psycho is way too dangerous to given any sort of breathing room too.

The Green Goblin is basically DC Comics version of the Joker in my eyes.

So if I see a Goblin I will become the Goblin Slayer without any hesitation.

Moving on.

What's happening right now is that Richard is going to allow his spider to bite Sage and hopefully she will gain spider powers.

Since in the physical aspect she is just a baseline human, and this should give her a bit more firepower so to speak.

But you never know.

Even though we've run multiple simulations on how the spider mutation will interact with Sage's active X-gene mutations those were only models.

Models and the real thing are very different.

Hence my nervousness.

I just don't want anything to happen to my little sister.

Turning her head towards me Sage sighed. "Roman calm down. Everything is going to be okay." She said.

"I know. I know it probably will be but you never know." I replied.

"Have faith." Sage said.

"I'll try." I replied.

"Sorrry to interrupt, but we're ready to begin Sage." Richard spoke.

"Of course. Let's get this over with." Sage said.

After she did so Richard began the procedure.

Opening the container he placed it on Sage's left arm.

A minute after he did so the spider crawled down to the part of Sage's skin under the top of the container.

Then a few seconds after this happened Sage spoke up.

"It bit me." She said.

The moment she did so Richard slid a thin plastic sheet under the opening of the container and removed it from Sage's arm.

He then quickly put the top back on it snd set the container down on a table before turning his attention back to Sage.

Who has started fidgeting and even visibly sweating.

"Sage. You good?" I spoke.

"Yeah. Never better." Sage replied.

Giving me a weak smile as she did.

I knew she was lying but chose not to say anything, as from what I can see Sage needs all her concentration at the moment.

Sage's fidgeting got worse, as did hee sweating.

She even started muttering.

This process went on for five hours straight before Sage eventually stabilized and fell asleep.

The moment she did so I breathed a sigh I had been holding in.

Since it looks we're through the worst of time.

But I know only time will tell if that's true or not.

----------------

Breakfast in my hands I re-entered the medical bay, since I had been in their all night, and up all night, watching over Sage.

The moment I stepped foot in the lab I saw Sage up and about, looking completely and utterly healthy.

As she clung to the cieling with a stupid smile on her face.

'Well at least we know she has the wallcrawling ability of the spider-power set.' I thought.

"Morning bro!" Sage happily said.

"Morning Sage." I replied. "So, not to state the obvious but it looks like you're doing better."

"I am. And I have spider powers. It worked. The spider bite worked." Sage said. She then looked at the food in my hands. "Oh, thanks for bringing me breakfast. I'm starving."

Crawling across the ceiling Sage then dropped down right in front of me and took the food from my hands.

Before rushing back over to her bed to begin devouring it.

Telling me she at least has an appetite.

Which is a good sign in my book.

But I will reserve my right to worry until I perform my own examination of Sage.

Which I will do right now.

Locking my gaze on Sage I activated my Genetic Sight ability which I got from her.

A few seconds after I did this I could literally see the DNA of Sage's cells and knew instinctively her cellular structure is completely and utterly stable.

The moment I knew this all my worries faded into the wind.

De-activating my Genetic Sight I went to sit in my chair until Sage finished eating.

Once she did so she looked at me.

"I took a look at you using Genetic Sight and everything looks stable with your cellular structure and DNA." I explained.

"See bro, I said you were worrying for nothing."

"Maybe, but with something like this I would rather be on the safe side."

"Like when you get new powers?"

"That's different and you know it. My unique physiology allows me to take on new DNA and powers easily. Unlike you and pretty much everyone else."

"Alright. Alright. I get it."

"Good." I said. Putting a victorious smile on my face. "Now then since your done eating got get cleaned up and changed and meet me in the training area. We need to see what your new spider powers can truly do after all."

At my words Sage grinned.

A grin which I mirriored.

Since there is no better feeling for us than testing or seeing new powers.

I guess that's just a thing we siblings have in common.
