Chapter 14: Getting to Know the Students

James and Phillip stared at Kent with questioning gazes.

"What do you want?" Phillip furrowed his eyebrows.

James stood up and asked. "What's up?"

Kent stared at them as he beckoned with his hand. "Come here. We need to discuss something as a group."

The faces of James and Phillip immediately turned serious. They walked over to the group and sat down with them.

"What happened? Why do you guys look so serious?" James asked when he saw their expression.

Kent pushed up his glasses. "Wait. There's one more person who will join the discussion."

"Huh? All of us are here. Who are you talking about?" Phillip looked at him in confusion.

Kent turned his head and everyone quickly followed his gaze. They saw Rendell sitting on his spot, staring at them with an amused smile.

"It's time for the discussion," Kent said to Rendell. He then signaled for the group to give some space for him to sit down.

Rendell stood up and walked towards them with confident strides. He then sat in between Ralph and Phillip, a spot that Kent intentionally left for him.

The ladies nervously stared at him while also sizing him up.

Kent cleared his throat to get everyone's attention. "Now that everyone is here, let's begin by introducing ourselves. I'll start the introductions…" He paused for a moment and looked at them one by one. "My name is Kent Ford and I'm at Level 2. My Gift is called Mana Shield and it allows me to summon an incorporeal shield that can block physical and elemental attacks. I haven't studied it deeply so I still don't know the full extent of my Gift." While saying this, he summoned a small translucent white shield in front of him.

Everyone was taken aback when they saw him displaying his Gift, but they quickly understood his intentions.

'You want me to expose my Gift?' Rendell chuckled in his heart.

Because of his tough childhood, he experienced untold hardships. This helped him mature quickly and also learn to identify people's intentions based on their actions. As smart as Kent was, his plan was already discovered by Rendell.

The others also introduced themselves after Kent.

"My name is James Cooper. I'm also at Level 2. My Gift is called Fire Manipulation and it allows me to control flames."

"I'm Ralph Johnson, a Physical Education instructor at Lochwall University. Just like them, I'm at Level 2. My Gift is Physical Enhancement." Ralph didn't mention any details about his Gift, but it was already self-explanatory so no one bothered to point it out.

After Ralph's introduction, Phillip felt everyone's gazes gathered around him. He snorted in annoyance, but he still introduced himself while picking his ears. "Phillip Heinz. Level 2. My Gift is Rage."

The faces of James and the others turned strange when they heard his blatant lie, but no one corrected him. They felt that they could use it to their advantage in case they fell out with Rendell.

Rendell didn't know this, but he wasn't foolish enough to believe their words. He had seen them fight against the Giant Millipede and he was only certain about James' Gift.

"I'll go next. My name is Celine Garnier. I'm at Level 2. My Gift is called Sword Summoner. It allows me to summon a sword." Celine showed them her summoned sword. Unlike Rendell's steel sword which had a very common appearance, her katana looked more intricate and elegant.

Rendell was envious of her sword, but he didn't show it to his face.

"It's my turn. My name is Ericka Smith. I'm only at Level 1 and my Gift is called Magical Bandage. I can create bandages using mana and using them on a wounded person increases the rate of recovery by more than three times."

Hearing this, Rendell's eyebrows jumped up in surprise. "To what extent can your bandages heal?" He asked out of the blue.

Ericka moved her gaze to him, her eyes stopped at the empty sleeve on his right shoulder. She was silent for a moment before she shook her head with an apologetic voice. "I know what you're thinking, but my bandages can't regenerate severed limbs."

"Is that so?" Rendell was disappointed by her response, but there was nothing he could do.

Seeing his expression, Ericka immediately said. "I can help you change your bandages. It might not regenerate your severed arm, but it should help you recover quickly."

Hearing this, Rendell stared at her, trying to see what she was cooking up, but all he saw was her sincere face. "I'll thank you in advance." He appeared to be fine, but his body was still in bad shape.

Ericka smiled at him.

"It's my turn now! Hehe." Aurora laughed lightly to ease her tension. She then cleared her throat and continued. "Just like Ericka, I'm at Level 1. My Gift is called Mystic Eyes. I still don't know a lot about my Gift. The only thing I know at the moment is that I can see through everyone's levels, but there's a strict limit. I can only see through the levels of anyone who is at most three levels higher than me."

After hearing her ability, Rendell calculated it mentally. If what she said was true, then that means she couldn't see his level. 'No wonder these guys are so guarded against me. Since this girl can't see through my level, they must be on edge, guessing my exact level.'

"Is it my turn now?" Rendell pointed at himself with a grin.

The others didn't say anything and just stared deeply at him.

Rendell shrugged and said. "My name is Rendell." He didn't tell them his family name since he hated that name.

"My Gift is called Fearless." While saying this, he beamed at them.

Everyone secretly cursed when he didn't tell them his level, but they didn't point it out to avoid some disagreement. Even Phillip who was usually short-tempered was surprisingly quiet.

Kent clapped his hand and said. "Alright. That's that. We should begin with today's agenda."
