Chapter 2: Married To No One
Nature is the best scenery ever. It is the most beautiful thing in this world. Living in this world together with one of the attractive places that I've ever seen makes my life fortunate. Looking at this wonderful scenery makes me so happy and if I'm going to marry someone in the future? I will be marrying him to this place where the Taal Volcano will be the center of our wedding picture.
"Bella? Why do you keep on looking at the Taal Volcano?" Nathan asked as he also looked at the volcano.
"It's aesthetically stunning in my eyes, Nathan. You know what is my best dream in the future?" I asked him.
"What is it?" He also asked.
"I want to be married here where we are standing. You know why? ... because it captures the entire scenery and that volcano will be the center of my wedding picture," I said smiling at him.
"Bella? If you want to marry here then I promise you that I will be the one who will marry you exactly here where we are standing," he said then I looked at him and he smiled at me.
"Are you serious? So it means, do you love me?" I asked with amusement. I never expected this.
"I think so because all I want right now is to be with you till the end," he confessed. I admit I care for him. I admit I'm also into him even though we're still young.
"Nathan, I know to myself that I'm into you but we're still young," I replied.
"I am serious, Bella. I know but we can do that in the future, right?" He declared.
"Promise?" I asked because it is my first time to make a promise for a person. Then he held my hand and said...
"I, Nathan, will be your beloved husband in the future. I will be here in sickness and in health. I will love you even in richer or poorer. Till death do us part," he declared in front of me. I cannot say anything because what I feel right now is an extraordinary happiness.
Nathan is my childhood best friend. He's the reason why I keep on going here at Batangas after the school year. They owned this beach island that became one of my favorite places in my whole life. We were always playing here ever since. Soon, he will be the one who will manage this beach island.
Nathan knows how much I love nature. He knows how addicted I am to the scenery of Taal Volcano. That is why I am so lucky with him because their beach island is in front of Taal and what he told me earlier is one of the best memories we can have.

After we played the wedding scene, I went home with a smile in our resthouse. I will tell my mom what happened today. When I'm still outside our house, I heard my parents arguing and yelling at each other.
"It's not the right time to tell her!" my Mom said.
"What? She's not young anymore and she must know it!" my Dad pleaded.
"No, you know how much she will be hurt about this!" my mom explained.
"What is it, Mom? What's the thing that I need to know?" I asked after I entered our house.
They both stopped talking. They looked at each other as if they could hide what they were talking about.
"Mom? Dad? I am asking you.. what is it that I need to know?" I demanded.
"Bella? You already know that we have our properties in Canada and your Dad is the one managing it. So we planned to..." my mom said.
"You planned what? Tell me!" I yelled. I can sense what's really happening and I know to myself that I cannot accept it.
"We planned to move to Canada next month before the school year starts and you need to do something important there. We already fixed all the things we need," my dad explained. I knew it!
"What?! And you did not even try to ask my permission if I want to go there?!" I complained.
"Why you didn't tell me! Or even ask me if it is okay for me!" I yelled at them and I started to cry.
"This is for your future baby. For your own sake. Shhh! Stop crying, please?" my mom demanded while I'm still crying.
I walk out in front of them then I go to my room and lock it. I can't accept it. My life is here. I don't want to leave Nathan. They told me before that we will be staying here and I will be studying here then we will go to Canada? NO! I really don't want to but ... I should follow them.
I keep on crying on my bed until the night comes. They kept on knocking on the door but I did not give them my response. I pretend to be asleep until I've already slept deeply.

I heard someone enter my room and I knew that it was my Mom.
"Bella? Baby.. Here is your breakfast. You should eat now because you did not eat your dinner yesterday. Please talk to me, Bella. I'm sorry," she said.
I open up my eyes and sit down on my bed. I still felt my heavy eyes because I cried a lot yesterday.
I looked at my mom and said, "What about Nathan? My best friend? I don't want to leave him," I explained to her.
"We will be coming back every year if you want to.. just please bear with us, Bella. It's for your own sake and for your future," she begged.
"If that's what you want but promise me that we'll be coming back here," I said sadly.
"Yes, Bella. I promise," she said.

I spent my last three weeks here in Batangas with Nathan. Everyday I always go to our meeting place and we play different things. We capture every moment that we have.
I did not tell him yet about our Canada trip because it's hard for me to tell him that I'm going to leave him. My mom was the one who fixed my papers. I just need to fix my things then be with them in Canada.

Today is my last day in Batangas. I've already packed up my things. I've done all the things that I need to do but one thing I haven't done is to say goodbye to Nathan. I go where we usually play. I saw him there waiting for me.
"NATHAAAAN!" I called him. Then he turned around then I saw his face smiling at me.
"Bella? Why did you take so long to come here?" he complained.
"I'm sorry, I had to do something that's why I'm late," I explained. I don't know how I will tell him about this.
"So, what do you want to play?" he asked, then I realized something.
"The wedding," I answered quickly.
"Really? Alright!" he said then he grabbed me in the place where the Taal is in our center.
After he set up the place... he showed me the two rings in his hands then he seriously said...
"Bella, do you take me as your beloved future husband in sickness and in health, for richer or poorer until death do us part?"
I couldn't believe this!
"I do, Nathan." I replied then he put the ring in my finger.
Now it's my turn.
"Nathan, do you take me as your beloved future wife in sickness and in health, for richer or poorer? Do you promise that you will be waiting for me until the right time comes? Do you --- " I stopped because I can't help myself not to cry.
"I do, Bella." He quickly said then I slowly put the ring on his finger.
"Will you love me until death do us part?" I continued then he replied again, "Yes, Bella. I do!"
"Nathan, please wait for me. Promise me that you'll still love me in the future," I begged him while my tears were still falling down.
"I promise that I will wait for you. I promise that I will love you, Bella. Please stop crying," he demanded. He wiped the tears on my eyes then I noticed that it was about to get dark.
"I'm sorry but I need to go home," I said.
"I'll come with you up to your house," he insisted.
"No need. I promise I will come back and I'm sorry, Nathan," I said with the fake smile on my face then I left him.
I did not tell him personally. I just left a letter for him before I left the Philippines. I sent it through our maid because I knew that he would wait for me on their beach island and I'm hoping that he would understand me on what I did.

"The end," I said to my class.
"What a tragic story!" one of my students said.
"Ma'am? Is he the reason why you're going to come back to the Philippines?" my student asked.
"I think, yes! Because I'm still gonna marry him!" I answered then, "Alright! Stop the drama, so today you will be meeting your new teacher," I said to them then their facial expression changed. I knew it, they became sad.
"Don't worry guys! She's my friend and she's kind like me. So now, let's all welcome.. Miss Kendra!" I said then Kendra entered the room.
"Hi guys! It's nice to meet you! You don't need to worry because I'm better than Miss Bella," she laughed and looked at me.
B*tch, I'm better than you.
"Okay class! That's all for today! Be good to Miss Kendra okay? ... and I hope to see you all again," I said then they all hugged me and said goodbye.
I will really miss this class. I had a great experience with them.
"So, you're definitely going back in the Philippines? Are you sure that you're finally okay now?" Kendra asked.
"Yahhh! I hope so, Kendra. The doctor said that I've already recovered," I answered her.
"That's good. I'm happy for you. By the way, are you going to continue your plan?" She asked again.
"Yah! Call me insane but I'm going to do what I told you," I replied and said, "So, just contact me if you have any problems with the students because I need to go right now in my condo. I need to pack up for our flight," I said then I kissed her on the cheeks as a sign of saying goodbye.
"Bye! Be careful and call me after your arrival" she said.

Ten years had passed. For ten years, I've already survived my surgery. Yes. I had an illness that's why my parents pushed me to move to Canada. I just found out when I collapsed on my first day of my class then I recovered after 3 years.
For ten years, I focused on myself until I finished my studies. I already have my own condo in Canada and I am a Licensed Educator right now. Nathan became my inspiration, that's why I already have this kind of life. I knew all the things about him for ten years but he doesn't know about me. I have had contact with him in the Philippines for ten years.
I planned to go back right now because our wedding was prepared. Yes! I will be marrying him as soon as I arrive in Batangas. He knows that there will be a wedding ceremony on their beach island but he doesn't know that we are the one who will get married.
*Flashback*
After my work I went to our house because I needed to talk to my parents. I have to tell them something important.
"Mom? Dad? I wanna tell you something," I said while looking at them.
"What is it, Bella?" mom asked. I knew they were curious about it.
"About Nathan," I answered.
They knew that I love him. They knew how much I begged when it came to Nathan but they always refused most of it.
"Mom? Dad? I know I'm crazy but I really love Nathan since then and when I go home to Batangas, I am going to marry him right away, so please help me!" I begged them.
I told them before that I will just have my vacation in Batangas but I'm really desperate right now!
"Bella! What are you talking about? You're too young about that! So please stop that nonsense thing Bella," my dad complained.
I hate this! Why can't they allow me!
"You're always saying that! This is not nonsense, Dad! I'm already 22 years old! I have my license already. I also have my own condo!" I explained that Dad didn't even care so I got mad at them then..
"I've always listened to the both of you ever since! Mom! Dad! Why can't you listen now to me? To my own decision! To my own life! You are the one whose nonsense! I hate you!" I exclaimed then my dad slapped me.
It hurts! That's the first time he slapped me then I walked out of our house and I did not talk to them for a few days. I'm tired of pleasing them for my own happiness so I've already decided and I still continued my plan.
After what happened with me and Dad, he said sorry to me a week after and he promised that he's going to help me with my plan. A week before our flight, he talked to his friends to help us with the preparation and Nathan didn't know about it.

The day I left Nathan was the day that I promised to myself that I will always love him everyday of my life. That's what I did and now, I want to surprise him in that wedding ceremony.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, we are landing right now in Manila International Airport. Please secure your seatbelts. Thank you," the flight attendant said.
Finally.. we are here! Few more hours, I'm gonna see him again. I really can't wait for this day. As we touched down in the airport, most of the flight attendants greeted us.
"Welcome to the Philippines!" They said.
"Welcome back, Bella!" My mom said. I smiled at her then she hugged me.
A few minutes later, our driver came to the airport and drove us up to Batangas. We received a call from there and they said that they already set up everything for the wedding ceremony.
When we arrived at our resthouse, my stylist and make-up artist were already there so they eventually did my hair and make-up look for our wedding. After a few hours, I've also worn my wedding gown. I'm so thankful for my dad because he helped me for this.
"Finally!" I smiled while looking at the ring which Nathan gave to me before.. then someone entered my room and it was Dad.
"Are you ready?" He asked while smiling.
I smiled back and said, "I'm nervous, Dad. He doesn't know anything about it,"
"Don't worry, Bella. Everything is good and he was assigned to be in front," he said then he kissed me on the cheeks.
"Thanks, Dad!" I replied and hugged him.

🎶Heart beats fast, colors and promises...🎵
I am really nervous right now. I can see him from where I am up to the front of the aisle. This is exactly the place when we promised each other before and honestly? it is lovely and wonderful.
I don't know how they forced him to wear his suit. He's so elegant and stunning like how the Taal becomes aesthetic right now. I'm now riding the car that can be used for the beach and it stopped in the center of the aisle.
"May I call Mr. Nathan and Ms. Bella to go in front so that the wedding ceremony will begin," someone said.
He was shocked. He was not prepared. He doesn't know what he will do. I saw that my dad went to him and I think he explained to him what's happening. I saw how his expression changed from being confused to being happy. Is he happy to see me again?
🎵I have died everyday waiting for you..🎶
As the song continued to play, the car opened and I slowly stepped down from the car and I stood firmly into the aisle.
My heartbeats are racing. My hands are trembling as I hold the bouquet of white roses in my hand.
I looked at him as I slowly walked in the aisle. I can see his eyes focusing on me then he smiled.
My mom and dad accompany me up to the front of the aisle. When we reached there, I looked at him then he offered his hand.
OH MY GOD! THIS IS IT! BELLA CALM DOWN! I whispered to myself.
We both went in the center and faced the Priest. I noticed that he was looking at me while he was smiling then I looked and smiled back at him. I know! I'm blushing right now!
"Brothers and Sisters, as we gathered here today to witness the wholeheartedly wedding ceremony of Nathan and Bella, let us all pray for them before they confess their vows," the priest said.
The wedding ceremony started. A few minutes after, the priest insisted on saying our vows together then we noticed that the clouds in the sky were starting to become dark.
Then I began to say my speech, "Nathan, before anything else I want to say sorry. Sorry for leaving you in 10 years. Sorry for waiting too long. I know that I surprised you about this but I want you to know that I really do love you since then..." I stopped for a while because I heard people whispering and they were looking in the sky.
My eyes were shocked as I saw the ashes from the sky. What's happening?! What is this?! ... Then I looked at Nathan and he nodded as a sign that I should continue what I'm going to say.
"So now, Nathan! Do you accept me as your beloved wife in sickness and in health, for richer or poorer? Do you promise me again that you'll love me until death do us part?" I asked him. I feel anxious and worried right now because I think something might happen after this.
"Yes I Do, Bella. I do love you more than what you think," he replied then I slowly put the ring on his finger.
I looked at the sky and I can see right now how the ashes are falling down from the sky. They were from Taal Volcano and I think the volcano started to erupt right now. I saw that people are starting to panic.
"Everyone please calm down, we will not stop this," he announced as he looked very calm and strong then he faced me.
"Bella? Do you accept me as your beloved husband in sickness and in health, for richer or poorer? ---"
"I DO! NATHAN I DO!" I exclaimed with happiness and fear. Fear because the surface was shaking right now and there were too many ashes that were falling down.
"Nathan!" I called him and then I held his hand.
I'm scared. I am scared of what will happen. All those ashes were from Taal Volcano and aside from that there are also tiny rocks that are falling down from the sky right now. OMYGHAD! This is extremely terrifying!
"BELLA! DO YOU PROMISED THAT YOU WILL LOVE ME UNTIL DEATH DO US PART?" Nathan exclaimed while there's a terrifying quake occuring to the area but we both stand firmly and hold each other.
"YES NATHAN! I DO!" I also exclaimed then my tears began to fall down. He put the ring in my finger and wiped my tears.
"Nathan and Bella, I pronounce the both of you as a husband and wife. You may now kiss the bride," the priest announced then the quake stopped for a while.
I looked at him then he slowly removed the veil. He held my face while looking at me then he looked down at my lips. As a sign of love, I close my eyes then he slowly kisses me wholeheartedly.
"NATHAAAAAAN! BELLA! LET'S GO! YOU ARE BOTH IN DANGER!" Our parents were shouting at us but we continued to feel the love for each other and I know how dangerous our place is right now.
"I love you Bella," he said while holding my hand.
"I love y---," I did not finish what I am going to say because a strong wind pushed us to seperate, the ashes and tiny rocks continued to fall down from the sky like how I fell down into the sands.
As I open my eyes, I cannot see anything. The place was occupied with clouds of ashes. I can feel that the volcano is starting to produce magma and lava. Where's Nathan?
"NATHAN?!" I called him.
"BELLA! WHERE ARE YOU?!" he shouted.
I looked around to find him but I cannot see anything because of the clouds of ashes that I am also absorbing right now. I don't know where they are. I don't know where to find him.
"I'M HERE NATHAN! HEEEELP! NATHAN!" I screamed fearfully. Am I going to die right now?
My tears are falling down while I'm trying to find him and calling him again and again. Hoping that we can save each other.
"NATHAAAAAAAN!!" I called him once again but what I received is the sound of the big waves from the sea coming to my place and ...
*BOOOOOOOM*
The extreme eruption of Taal Volcano ... then my visions eventually turn into a dark until I black out.
* * * * *
"Bella?" Someone called me after I opened my eyes. I turned around then I saw him.
"Nathaaaaaan!" I called then I ran to him and hugged him.
"Thank God we're safe. I'm really worried about you .. Love?" I said to him with hesitation.
"Don't worry, Bella.. I mean Love," he said then he kissed me on the forehead. How lovely is he right?
I looked around to know where we are but I've never seen this place. It was lovely like my favorite place in Taal thus it is more wonderful and lovely here. There are different flowers around us and I can literally see nature wherein what you can feel is peacefulness.
"Where are we?" I asked him while I'm still amazed by what I saw.
"Do wanna stay here with me?" He asked back at me. Looks like he's worried.
"Of course! After all these years, I just wanna stay with you. I just wanna be with you always," I answered. He smiled at me.
"I thought you're not gonna come back. Everyday, I was looking at the Taal hoping that you'll be there just for one day," he said. I felt sad. It was all my fault.
"I'm sorry. I know you've waited for so long but I did come back. I'm here in front of you. We can continue our memories together, right?" I said with excitement.
He held my hands and faced me.
"Bella.. Love.. I'm gonna live here in this place forever. Are you sure you wanna stay with me?" He asked.
"Yes, Nathan! I wanna be with you forever," I replied to him.
"No, you didn't understand. Bella, I will be here forever," he explained again. What?
"What do you mean?" I asked with confusion.
"Bella, I'm sorry," he said then he looked down.
"Why? Nathan! If you want to let's live here together forever," I demanded. I cannot understand him.
"No Bella! It is not your right time to be here! Don't worry you'll be alright, okay? I know you can bear with this! So go now!" He exclaimed.
My right time? So it means, he's dead? So it means we're here in the middle of life and death?!
"NO! NATHAN!" I screamed at him.
He kissed me again wholeheartedly in my lips up to the forehead.
"Shh! Please, Bella! Like what I promised you.. I will be coming back. So please! go back now," he demanded then he slowly let go my hands and I began to cry.
"LOVEEE! NO! PLEASE! NATHAN!" I screamed in pain. My tears continued to fall down as I looked at him walking away from me.
* * * * *
"NATHAAAAN!" I yelled while I'm heavily panting.
Where am I? I sat down and looked around. I'm in the hospital. What am I doing here? I'm with Nathan earlier! Where is he? What happened!
"Nathan?! Where's Nathan?!" I screamed again.
"Bella! You're awake! Calm down, Bella! Doooooc!" My mom said.
"MOM! WHERE'S NATHAN! I NEED TO SEE HIM!" I screamed at her. She looks worried.
"Bella please calm down!" She just said but I did not listen to her so I screamed again and again until the doctor came. They injected something on me and I slowly calmed myself.
"MOM!" I said then I started to cry. I am crying again and again. My mom looked at me.
"Shhh! Stop it! It's not good for you," she said.
"Where's Nathan? I wanna see him," I demanded. Then she looked away from me.
"Mom! Can you please tell me what happened! Please? How long have I been here? And where's Nathan?" I demanded again while sobbing.
"The Taal Volcano erupted on your wedding day. It exploded after you said your vows. There were clouds of ashes which caused zero visibility in the area. All of us forced the both of you to come inside the resort but you did not listen. A few hours after, the clouds of ashes were gone then we quickly looked for you and Nathan. We found you unconscious in the seashore. Then they found Nathan's body covered with lavas," my mom explained. Is he dead?! Did he leave me?
"So it means, he's dead?" I asked emotionally.
"I'm sorry, Bella. I wish I can help you but please stop this! Help yourself! Nathan was gone," she said.
"NO MOM! HE'S NOT DEAD! I JUST TALK TO HIM EARLIER!" I screamed.
"Bella, please?" She demanded the tears on her eyes begin to fall down.
"MOM! HE IS NOT DEAD! BELIEVE ME!" I yelled to her once again. Why can't they believe me?
I stepped down on my bed and ran away. I know he's not dead. I went to all the rooms in the hospital and looked for Nathan. Hoping that he was there waiting for me.
"NATHAN?" I called him emotionally as I entered every room then I got tired until I reached the garden beside the hospital. I sit down so that I can rest for a while then suddenly..
"Bella? Why are you here? Why did you not rest in your room?" Someone asked beside me.
I turned around then saw him.. "NATHAAAAAAN! OMYGOD!!" I yelled then I hugged him tightly.
"Where did you go?! I thought you were gone," I said then pouted at him.
"No, I'm always watching you. I realized that I can't lose you. Don't worry, Bella. I will be here with you everyday," he said.
"Really? Everyday?" I asked then he nodded.
"I love you," I said to him then I kissed him on the cheeks.
I heard two girls talking to each other while looking at us.
"Look she is talking and smiling to the air," the girl said.
"I bet she's crazy," the other one said then they laughed together. I looked at them madly and they walked away.
"Don't mind them, Love. I think you should rest in your room now," he said.
I smiled at him and said, "come with me inside, pleaseee? I want you to stay with me from now on," I demanded.
I want to prove to my parents that Nathan was not gone. That he's still here with me.
As I go back to my room, my parents are here and they are waiting for me.
"Mom? Dad? I'm sorry about earlier," I said then I smiled at them.
"It's alright, Bella. I hope you can help yourself right now," mom said and hugged me.
"By the way, I'm with Nathan. He will accompany me here and he will be here with me from now on," I said cheerfully.
They looked at each other and seemed confused. I asked them a favor that I want to be with Nathan in this room. They agreed with me but I can see how worried they are. Why? Is there any other problem?
A day after, my parents asked me if I want to stay here in the hospital and there will be a doctor who will visit and check on me everyday. I agreed with them because I want to be here with Nathan.
I spent my days with Nathan every now and then. When I woke up in the morning, he was always by my side. We usually spent our days by talking about different things. He always brought me to the garden. He always made me feel his love through his presence. Some people called me crazy, insane or whatever throughout my stay here in hospital. I don't know why!
* * * * *
*Ringing*
"Hello, Kendra?" I said as I answered the call.
"Bella! How are you? Your mom said you're in the mental hospital," she said on the other line.
"What do you mean mental hospital?! Yeah, I'm in the hospital but this is not a mental hospital Kendra," I answered her.
"Bella? Listen to me okay? Nathan was gone. Your mom told me that your mental illness was being dreadful so you need to help yourself. Let go of Nathan. He's not existing anymore," she explained. I got pissed off at her. What she's talking about. I'm not crazy!!
"NO KENDRA! YOU KNOW HOW MUCH I LOVE NATHAN! HE WAS NOT GONE KENDRA! HE'S HERE WITH ME! SO PLEASE! DON'T SAY THAT!" I yelled at her because they always pushed me to believe that Nathan was gone but he's here with me.
"Bella, calm down. I'm just worried about you. Please! Help yourself to move on," she said emotionally.
"NO! PLEASE STOP! NO! NATHAN WAS NOT GONE! NO!" I screamed in pain over and over again causing me to hurt myself. The call ended then I kept on screaming again until the doctor and nurse came. They injected something on me until I fell asleep.

"Bella?" I heard Nathan called me.
"NATHAN!" I said then he showed in front of me. I hugged him tightly.
"Bella, I want to know that I've loved you but this time you need to let me go," he said emotionally.
"NO! NATHAN PLEASE! NO I CAN'T," I yelled at him.
"Bella please! Your parents loved you so much and they are really worried about you. So please let me go. I am not existing anymore. I'm not real. Remember the day I got shot?" He explained.
My tears started to fall down when I realized the day that I saw him die in front of me when we were children.
*While we were playing on their beach island, he went back inside their resort to get something then I waited for him for a while. Suddenly, a man went to our place and tried to get me but I shouted loudly so that someone could hear me. Nathan came back then he saw the man pulling me away. He helped me to fight but after I've been let go from the man, he shot Nathan with his gun. I was shocked and traumatized. After what happened, I did not see him again but when I came to Batangas a year ago. I saw him again and that's the time he promised me to fulfill my dream wedding*
"I-I'm sorry Nathan. S-so y-you m-mean, all those memories we had before are not real? Even the wedding?" I said emotionally.
"Yes!" He cried, "It's all my fault! I let your mental illness trigger because I just wanna stay with you," he said.
"I'm sorry Bella. I'm sorry for making you crazy about me but right now, I'm begging you to accept everything, please Bella?" He demanded.
I am speechlessly sobbing in front of him. All the years of life I didn't know which one was real or not.
"Shhh! Stop crying! Please just let me go but don't erase the memories we had. Keep it as your dreams. Remember, I always love you till death do us part," he said.
"NATHAN! PLEASE!" I demanded but he just kissed me on the forehead and he slowly gone in front of me again but now he was gone forever.
"NATHAAAAAAN!!" I screamed with pain until I woke up from that dream.
I cried painfully in my bed until my Mom came. I'm still crying as she hugged me worriedly. I didn't stop crying over and over again but my mom did not leave me.
After that I started to accept everything. My parents helped to recover. They spent their full time taking care of me. I learned that I had this mental illness called Schizophrenia. This caused me to engage in hallucinations or delusions wherein I cannot figure out which one is real or not and I can see or communicate to a person whose not existing anymore and that was Nathan. The Psychologist said that it triggered more throughout the years because there was no acceptance in my mind.
A F T E R O N E Y E A R
"Thank you, Doc," I said to our Psychologist.
