The World of Aunhe

Calendar

One year on Aunhe is very slightly over 408 days, broken into ten 40-day months, with an 8-day interstice that marks the new year between winter and spring.

Each week is 8 days by standard reckoning.

The Moon revolves around the planet in roughly 41-day cycles. There are also 3 moonlets (visible like stars) in stable orbits at gravitational points. These "stars" were called the Korei, and are said to represent fortune, health, and spirituality in Aviye. Many cultures represent them as three children. Most cultures simply number the months as 1 through 10.

Every 11 years, an extra day is added to the calendar. In Aviye, this is called "Time's Day," and has historically been marked as belonging to various gods of time, and a day on which to settle debts. In modern practice, this is a day of raucous celebration and inebriation.

Fireday and Voidsday were traditionally treated as two separate periods of rest. Modern practices now place Sunday and Voidsday as the weekend.

Days are divided into 26 fifty-minute hours. Each minute is 80 seconds long.

The Continent of Aeneasona

A supercontinent comprised of the regions Aenos, Neasoea, and Usona, the land mass straddles much of Aunheloi's northern hemisphere, crossing over the north pole. The subcontinent of Kaena is located across the Narrow Sea to the immediate south of Neaosea.

Aenos - The portion of the continent to the east of the Soverol Mountains.

Neasoea - Comprises most of the west and north of the continent.

Usona - Located across the north pole from Neasoea.

The Island Continents

Kaena - Located south of Neasoea. Evidence suggests it is the origin of humanity.

Elu (Avis) - Located directly south of Usona.

Okken - Archipelago located in the Ocean of Dawn.

The Land of Aviye

A nation of the Aenosan continent encompassing many climates, cultures, and religions, Aviye is a land steeped in history and legend. The history of the nation is one of fragmentation and unification across over four-thousand years of history. 500 years ago, the nation was united under the last of its imperial dynasties, which extended its borders to halfway across the western desert. 300 years ago, the empire was overturned in a revolution under Mea the Iconoclast, and remained a republic until being reformed as a Kingdom by the Continental Alliance, a century-old alliance of détente that emphasized colonialism and externalizing warfare away from its core nations. The last 30 years have seen civil war after the Northern powers imposed a monarchy favorable to the extraction of Aviye's sources, a monarchy that shifted power toward Escator as the hub of transferring much of the nation's wealth.

Aviye's Climate

To the east and south, a tropical climate reigns along the coastline and deep inland until one reaches the high mountains. This part of the country has a monsoon season, and until modern times flooding was a chief concern.

The northern part of the country is humid, and sees long summers and short winters. The further west one goes, the drier the climate becomes as steppe climates begin to dominate, with the furthest west regions becoming a part of the desert. The furthest northern region includes the only band of subarctic climate conditions in Aviye.

To the west and south, including part of the coast, arid and desert conditions reign, though some regions see flooding during the yearly monsoon.

The majority of the central regions is marked by highland climates, whose moisture is dominated by the many, many rivers that flow through the land. Freshwater marshes and lakes are common, especially in isolated valleys.
