Chapter 39: Chapter 39: I quit!
"Everyone take the civilians as far away as possible." Ryan said as he dashed forward and started moving kids out of the vicinity.
He felt his strength being restricted even more. His muscles were trying to grab the power which was for some reason, leaving him.
The entire guardian squad moved forward without asking questions as they too felt weird fluctuations from the portal.
Olivia came near two kids and lifted them off the ground and took them away immediately.
Suddenly, a loud sound of cracking reached their ears, stopping them on their track.
Ryan looked around and saw that everyone was already at a safe distance but then he heard a woman crying.
"Please save my son." The woman was crying while crouching at the ground.
Ryan felt something was amiss as he didn't see any kid there until he saw a small figure of a human standing dangerously close to the portal.
The kid might have been not aware of the situation as his face had a smile as he looked at the bright white light coming out of the crack which could explode at any moment.
"Shit." With a loud bang Ryan appeared before the kid blocking the kid from any harm.
"Big brother, this is so cool." The kid said innocently.
"You think so." Ryan covered the kid's body because he knew it was already too late for them to get to a safe place. They were already covered by blinding white light.
"Take rest." Ryan said gently as he tapped the kid's forehead.
The portal rattled with ferocity as the whole portal exploded as it could not maintain its form anymore.
Smoke and dust everywhere as the mother of the kid fainted because she could not handle the death of her beloved son.
Elijah felt like his world completely broke into pieces. He was enraged, sad that his friend had to do something like this. A change started to happen inside his body as a black sphere was forming rapidly.
His aura spiked as he had a breakthrough to S rank. He swore to kill everyone of those bastards who ruined their peaceful life. They were happy with what they had, so what if they had powers which could destroy buildings at once?
Everyone suffered from this situation. Guardians are supposed to protect civilians but they are human too, they suffer too.
"Lol, that guy took a big L." A teenager said in a mocking tone. He was with his friends laughing and giggling not taking anything seriously.
"What did you say?" Elijah's low tone voice reached that guy's ears which attracted his attention.
"I mean it's not like he did anything for us, he went away as fast as he appeared." The teenager shrugged.
"Oh right, I wonder why we protect people like you? We should just kill you. What guardians? All of this is meaningless." Elijah said as he moved forward, his expression not visible because his hair covered his face.
"You are awakened right? What rank are you? D? Oh no you are a B rank." Elijah said in an emotionless tone.
"So what?" The teenager was not scared of him because guardians were not allowed to harm civilians. If any guardian was caught doing anything similar to that, they would be sent to The Ex rank labyrinth.
"Why didn't you move to save that kid?" Elijah asked normally without any rage or hate coming from him.
"That dumb kid deserved to die. It was not my fault." The teenager said as he crossed his arms.
"You are right." Elijah said with a laugh.
The people around them felt disgust towards the teenager. They were cursing his entire bloodline for having a descendant like him.
"Do you know that there is something really not deserved here? YOUR POWERS." Ryan smashed the teenager's head like a mosquito.
The bystanders screamed in horror as they didn't expect Elijah to kill the young man without any second thoughts.
"Anyone else here? Who thinks that my brother was a fool for trying to save that kid?" The whole crowd went quiet in a mere second after they saw Elijah's blood covered face.
"Eli, he's not dead." Olivia called out to him. She did not care if he killed that guy, he was a maggot that was not worth their attention.
"Look! He's alive." A woman from the crowd said in an excited tone.
Everyone burst out in cheers as they saw a figure of a man covered in a black robe coming out of the black smoke which was still rising high in the sky.
A green light covered his body as they noticed there was a small curled up figure in his hands.
They went silent as they didn't expect the kid to survive. The man carrying the mother of the child was shocked too as he carefully put the lady near a tree which was near the sidewalk.
He started clapping in appreciation as he knew that if the man in the black robe was not there the kid would have definitely died.
Everyone felt grateful to Ryan as they never agreed with the teenager. They never can. All of them are well aware that the guardians are risking their lives to protect them. They started cheering his name in unison.
Elijah nodded his head in approval, his previous rage still there but not pointed at people who know the gravity of their words.
Ryan flew towards Olivia and handed the kid who was sleeping soundly to her with a slight nod.
"Mr. Cockroach, you almost scared us." Olivia said with a light chuckle, very unlikely of her.
"That's the most lame name for a distinguished person like me." Ryan shook his head with a slight smile.
"You take care of things here, I feel tired." Two black wings appeared from his back as he flew away without any delay.
Olivia looked at the kid in her arms. She smiled when she saw that the kid was completely unscathed. The kid said something in his sleep.
"Dragon, big brother." He mumbled in sleep.
"A dragon, what more are you hiding?" She looked at the smoke which finally started to disperse and revealed the place where the portal appeared a year ago.
The place was destroyed as no previous human made structures were left undestroyed.
"Ex ranked hunters are in a league of their own." A man said in a daze after he saw the destruction which Ryan survived.
"I can guarantee, not even S ranks would return alive from this." The man's friend bit his nails in nervousness.
Everyone who saw the crater nodded their head subconsciously.
Soon, help from the association arrived but the funny thing was that the news reporters arrived before the association even entered the vicinity.
Olivia and her undeads were helping the people and asked them to return home. Many agreed but some wanted to know the end of it.
"Guild leader Olivia, do you mind if I ask a few questions." A handsome reporter stood before her with a charming smile.
"Proceed." She simply said as she was not interested in answering the reporter's question but had to do it to keep the situation under wraps.
"Do you know why the portal got destroyed?" The reporter carefully put the mic near her face.
"The portal exploded because it exhausted its power and collapsed." Olivia said in an emotionless voice.
"We finally have a hope to get out of this mess." The reporter seemed really happy to find out the portals could be destroyed.
"Guild leader, do you think we can do the same with other portals?" The reporter asked in a professional tone.
"Only time will tell, everyone will be informed about our next move after we conduct a meeting." Olivia turned around and was about to leave but the reporter stopped her.
"Just one last question." He, despite Olivia's disapproval, continued to ask his 'questions'.
"If you want to know about my relationship with the guild master of Chandra guild then I'll decapitate you right here and now." A dark aura came out of his body and the reporter subconsciously looked at the ground.
In Olivia's shadow, many blinking eyes could be seen ready to pounce on anyone Olivia orders.
The reporter didn't say anything and just stood there dazed. Olivia didn't linger and proceeded to handle a few other things.
The reporter then looked at Elijah and was about to move towards him to ask some questions but Elijah suddenly looked towards him and said with a smiling face.
"Don't ask, I don't care and it would be better if you return to your headquarters."
"Oh just one thing, put a headline with bold letters that I Elijah Baros successfully broke through to S rank." He gave the reporter a side eye before leaving with his sister.
The reporter was speechless again.
"What's wrong with these people, almost like they don't care about their reputation." The reporter mumbled with a confused expression on his face.
He still didn't lose hope and went to talk with the other members of the squad but he got even more hideous remarks from them.
"F#ck off."
"Why don't you just take a bath in a dog's piss."
"I am straight."
"Nosy bastard."
These were among the most family friendly ones, there were other members of the squad who almost beat him up but were stopped by their subordinates.
The reporter felt like he had no value and had enough of this job. He slammed the mic on the ground and screamed in a obnoxiously loud tone "F#ck reporters, f#ck this job. I am quitting."
"You hear me cameraman? I f#cking quit." He said while laughing heartily.
"Fuck Everyone." He ran away while shouting out a number of curses.
"Hey wasn't that man the number one reporter who likes to go around and personally meet people to cover the news?" A girl said with a light laugh.
"Don't tell me this was live. Lol the people who are watching this must be laughing their asses off." The girl's friend also started laughing.
"Btw do you think guardian Ryan has a girlfriend?" The girl asked with a flushed face after she remembered Ryan coming out of the smoke like a hero.
"Maybe, you can't be sure about someone like him." Her friend shrugged.
The situation was now under control as many guild leaders were informed about a meeting, including John.
Ryan would have to attend it too because he is legally the leader of Chandra guild.
Will he act like a proper leader or a man thirsty for blood?
That will remain a question for a while.
