Chapter 5: Early Life on Asgard-2

Vali, when he was 17-years old realized that he wouldn't improve any longer for the time being since he didn't have any battle partners strong enough, to let loose and go all out. He realized that it was just a massive waste of time. Magic was a no go, since his mother had placed strict prohibitions on his study of magic before the age of 20. He couldn't ask her to teach him either, he would know since he had tried using all the tricks in the bag, only to be met with firm rejection.

Left with no other choice, he fell back to grinding his eye powers that exhausted his magic, and having his starring contests with freak on the other side of the realm, sometimes 3 times a day, completely emptying his magic container. That was what he was going to call it, till he found the actual term for it. It was awfully tiring emptying his magic, akin to losing all the water from a human body leaving behind with a dry husk.

After he made sure that his magic was growing ever so slightly throughout the process, and that he left behind no hidden injuries in his body or magic container, he added the improved 'eye training' to his daily schedule.

Vali had decided to pay a visit to Heimdall, it was about time he did so. The bifrost was pretty much a forbidden-zone on Asgard and his mother would have had objections with him doing so as well, not that it mattered to him, as he had other things to do and most importantly train back then.

He called upon his two new guards appointed by his mother, both around the age of Thor and Loki. She did so in hopes of him mingling with other people as she was worried for him. His elder brothers had done it all and had several flings by the time they were at his age. The two young guards name Skarf and Frodi walked in, with serious expressions on their faces. Just because Frigga wanted her son to open up, didn't mean that she would skimp out on the quality. The two newcomers were top elites even among the best Einherjar, the Asgardian-warriors and they were honoured when they knew they got to serve the royal family.

He told them to make preparations for his visit the to the observatory, Himinbjorg was its name. They left right away to inform the required personnel, while he thought about his new guards.

Skarf was talkative, the youngest boy from a family of 4 children, 3 of them being older sisters. He was around 6 foot tall brown man who used a sword and shield, light on his feet and pretty good at dueling. Can't say much about his lethality though, from what he observed Vali placed him in the 'Never been in a life or death battle before' category.

Frodi on the other hand was the silent type, an orphan who lost both his parents to the frost giants 2 centuries ago. He was almost as tall as Vali, a light skinned brown bearded man around 7ft tall, used a spear with sharp movements and was extremely mobile for a man of his stature. One look at him during his duel, and Vali placed him in the 'Definitely killed more than one' category. From the information he had received from his mother, this man had toiled like a mad machine for more than a century to gain extra merits, just so he could personally behead his parent's killers who were among the war prisoners. He request was personally granted by Odin himself after looking at this poor soul, and after completing his lifelong goal he enrolled for the selections of royal guard to repay the King, and he was brought in this year to be Vali's guard.

The two guards soon returned after completing the necessary formalities and he was soon on his way to see the rainbow bridge. They made their way out of the palace and boarded a boat like vehicle powered by magical runes. They called it a Moonjammer or something, he couldn't really be bothered about some slow-moving luxury trinkets.

In a few minutes, they were in front of the magnificent rainbow bridge. Even though he had seen it using his 'truth vision', seeing it in person was a different feeling altogether. Soon, they were moving over the bridge and he could see the prismatic colours resembling a rainbow flowing beneath him. This was most definitely a true marvel of this universe and he'd have to protect all of it, he thought.

As he reached the edge of Asgard, the observatory came into sight and so he made the guards wait outside. There stood an armored man with eyes, he had seen more times than his mother's at this point. Heimdall didn't bother reacting to his presence, looking elsewhere in another direction and Vali didn't bother him, instead looked around curiously at every nook and corner of the observatory. He came to a stop in front of Heimdall, bent down and tried his best to find out what was special about that sword. He knew what it did, as it was probably the most important weapon in the realm along with Gungnir. It acted as a key to the Bifrost and its significance was self-explanatory.

He found some runic lines, couldn't make heads or tails of it. Runes were a part of the things he planned to master in the coming years. After he was done sightseeing, he saw that Heimdall was still seriously contemplating and seemingly watching something. He figured that it was related to the reason Odin had been missing, and knew that he wouldn't receive a valid response even if asked and would only earn his ire instead. He turned around and left, failing to see Heimdall turn around and look in his direction interestedly.

Once he returned to the palace, he decided that he'd do the things he wouldn't have the time for, once he began his education. Skarf and Frodi were one of the few people he would start working on since they'd be his arms in the future. The following days passed by with his guards being thrown around the palace by him and whipped into the required shape. They had come to fear and respect him for his viciousness and his strength, wholeheartedly learning from him.

The two guards were made to battle each other seriously, with magically enhanced training weapons that left behind severe bruises. Their battles were supervised by Vali himself, who sometimes played the role of an assassin often interrupting their spars with quick blows to their vulnerable regions that would've ended up fatal had he not held back. Skarf, the lively guard was worn haggard after all these sessions often wishing he was dead. Frodi on the other hand, took the training seriously and made improvements in great strides.

Vali had decided to make the silent giant Frodi, his right-hand man and started teaching him the ways of anti-reconnaissance, espionage and other subtle thought processes to better manage a small group of subordinates. Frodi like a fish in water, faithfully followed orders and picked up the skills required to stay by Vali's side and become his weapon.

As for Skarf, though not as talented as Frodi in the ways of battle, had his own merits. He was street smart and witty, making him a good spokesperson who was flexible enough to deal with any scenario. He was trained to manage Vali's future subordinates, and since they weren't present as of yet, he was sharpened in the art of war. He wasn't a weak warrior mind you, he was chosen from the best warriors of Asgard after all; Vali's standards were too high for any Asgardian and Frodi himself was a lucky find.

Soon the sharpening of his two guards was on its way and it wouldn't be finished anytime soon. The following time was spent by Vali immersed in his own body training, and he didn't forget to stop by and put his two older brothers in their place by leaving more than a few bruises on their handsome faces to accelerate their training. They had finished their early education and so they hung around the realm, whiling away their time having fun and Vali couldn't have that; he wouldn't have weak garbage that would drag down Asgard when it was in danger. So, he took it upon himself to 'motivate' his brothers and fix their characters for the sake of the realm.

The months went by and the youngest prince was 18, with the celebrations held in the royal palace by the Queen who was grieving over the sudden growth of her baby who would soon be out her reach. Loki being the cunning bastard he always was, decided to lace the food with laxatives during the celebrations and Thor who couldn't bother thinking for himself ended up consuming most of it despite its funky taste.

Well, the festivity soon ended with Thor barfing and a few other important Asgardians suffering from some crazy abdominal problems. They didn't have to think twice to know who the culprit was, cursing at the trickster prince who was conveniently missing.
