Chapter 1: : THE END

What does it mean to be great?

What does it mean to give your all to something no matter the outcome? Inspiring those not only on your team but opponents as well.

Leagues around the world claimed they where were all the best players around the world gathered. But what if, one player swept by? What if a player destined to be great never made it, what if a player who gave it his all every time he stepped on the court no matter what the outcome of the game was failed to even make the league?

His name was Kyo Uzumaki, an outside hitter from Tokyo Japan who moved to New York at the age of 10. Dominated high school, reaching the point he had worked so hard to get to.

It was a cold Monday morning in January. The New York streets were filled with snow, as one Kyo Uzumaki stood above everyone else's as he had finally become the top High School Volleyball Player in the world at the age of 17 just three months away from the final game of the year.

It was then that he knew everything was about to change. On the best day of his life, as he walked his way to school in high spirits greeting everyone along the way, a car that had gone out of control left the road and slammed into Kyo.

The worst possible outcome happened, his knee was shattered and the ligaments in his left elbow were torn to shreds. It was just to the point he could live out a normal life but would never be able to reach the same level he once had.

A depression overwhelmed him, as all his scholarships slowly slipped away and his name fell out of the prospect list. Every day he lay in his bed not being able to do anything until it became even worse.

The injuries that were only supposed to take away his Volleyball career began to threaten his life. Due to the stress, he was under while healing his damaged organs had yet to heal, leaving him stuck in a hospital bed waiting to see if surgery was possible.

He needed a lung transplant, and his gallbladder was removed. It was a risky surgery with a 50/50 chance of survival.

Maybe it was his fate, or maybe it was Karama for something he had done in his past life the doctors weren't even able to make it halfway through his surgery before his heart gave out. The life of a rising High School star who had everything ahead of him died, six months after the day he was announced as the best.

The story of his life would go on to be told for another year or so. In memory of him, His high school retired his number and named the gym after him. However, his journey was far from over.

Koy had watched it all, from the moment he flat-lined his soul and body separated and he was left watching his death from the corner of the room as doctors and nurses did their very best to bring him back.

He wasn't able to move from the corner as he watched the doctors give up and announce his official time of death. Exactly 8:00 in the afternoon a number he would never forget as it permanently had a place in the back of his mind.

He waited in that hospital room corner, nobody could see him through all his attempts making his death even more real. In his mind death was only the next step after losing Volleyball something that had always been the focus of his life. Coming to America when he was ten, Volleyball became his connection to others. It was his way of fitting in and not long after it became his way of standing out.

Volleyball was his escape and his connection to the world around him, without it he didn't know what to do.

"I'm sorry to disturb your thinking but I feel as though we should talk." the voice was calm and soothing to his ears bring him right out of his thoughts in a panic. Looking to his left in the direction of the voice stood a large man, both tall and wide. He had long jet-black hair and wore a black suit with a fitting red tie.

"Oh dear no need to spook the boy." snapping his head to his right as he heard another voice, the owner of this voice was a woman, She was tall. Her hair matched the jet-black color of the males, shaping her beautiful face perfectly.

Shocked and confused Kyo couldn't help stirring as he asked.

"W-what the h-hell is going on."

"Oh darn, we broke him." said the woman softly

"I told you we should have just sent him on his way. But no you just had to meet him, didn't you? Well now, look what happened." responded the man annoyed that his wife hadn't listened to his plea.

"Oh don't be like that. It was your mistake that lead to all this in the first place." countered the woman as she crossed her arms, presenting a stern 'you're not winning this one look on her face.

"Umm, what the fuck is happening," said Kyo, breaking the two from their impending fight.

Turning to look at Koy both of them smiled before the woman said, "Would you look at that you're not broken after all."

The man-"Hello Kyo Uzumaki, we are the heads of the life and death department and it seems a mistake I made around 6 months ago in earth 243 time, has resulted in a mix up of fates. We come here today to give you the proper compensation."

Kyo- "what do you mean to mix up in fates? Was I not supposed to die then?"

The woman-"Of course, you were supposed to die. To be exact it would happen in exactly 53 years 2 months and 21 days from now."

The man-" let me explain, on the day you were announced as the top High School player in the nation you were hit by an out-of-control vehicle. However, that vehicle was never supposed to hit you. Because I had gone down to the human world and interacted with the driver on accident. the butterfly effect resulted in the change of fates."

Kyo-"You're telling me I died because you wanted to have some fun."

The man-"I sincerely apologize for my mistake, and that is why I am here to offer you compensation equally that of my mistake." stepping in to help her husband the woman then came forward with a proposal.

The woman-"we will allow you to choose the destination of your next life as well as some a few perks to help you accomplish whatever it is you wish to."

Kyo's eyes light up at the proposal. No matter whose mistake it was that he died even if he had survived the surgery he would never be able to play Volleyball again. Not only was this a chance to return to the sport he loved but he would be able to relive all his first when it came to the sport. He wasn't gonna mess this up and jumped at the opportunity.

Kyo-"can I be reborn anyway, like does it matter if it's fictional or not."

The man-"you are free to choose any world you can think of and any ability you can think of as long as it does not disrupt the physics of the world."

Kyo-"Perfect."
