Chapter 8: Chapter 8: Ambush [1]
Edward then left the guild and then he started to make his way towards the city's exit gates so that he could go to the snowy mountains.
Edward kept on walking until he reached the city's exit gates and then he greeted the guards that were stationed there to protect the city.
After greeting the guards, Edward left the city and then he started to walk towards the snowy mountains which were visible to the entire continent due to how huge they were.
Due to their enormous stature , Edward had started to think that they were nearby but boy was he wrong.
He kept on walking for hours on end without stopping to take a break. And finally after twelve hours of continuous walking, Edward had reached the snowy mountains.
Edward looked upwards as he saw the huge snowy mountains towering over him.
He gulped loudly as he began to climb the snowy mountains without taking a break. He did not even have anything to eat for the last two days and he was feeling very hungry. But despite all of these factors, he kept on pushing through the arduous work of climbing up the mountain.
After about six hours of climbing up the snowy mountains did Edward reach the top of the snowy mountains.
It was already dark and some of the other dangerous monsters that were living on the snowy mountains started to come out for their daily night hunt.
Edward still pushed through his hunger and exhaustion and showed a lot of determination and perseverance.
After a while of walking on the snowy mountains in the dead of night, the temperatures started to deteriorate at a very fast pace. And eventually after a while he began to feel cold.
After all, he was only wearing a short sleeve t-shirt and a long but thin pant.
He was shivering from the cold and you could also see that his face and skin were pale from not being able to eat anything or even getting enough sleep.
After a while, Edward heard a cracking sound of a twig from behind him. He quickly turned around for him to see a huge wolf with white fur a sharp silver eyes looking at him with it baring its teeth at him.
"Awuu~" howled the wolf as a pack started to form. There were at least seven wolves in total that were starting to surround him with their fangs bared at him.
"Grrr~" growled the wolves as they surrounded him and began to circle around him with coordinated precision.
Edward unseathed his sword from its scabbard and then he took a defensive posture as he began to look at the wolves with narrowed eyes.
Then after a while the first wolf pounced at him from behind but Edward was quick to evade the attack by quickly moving to the side.
After effectively dodging the wolf's attack, Edward raised his sword and made a quick counter attack by lounging at the wolf and then he swung his sword at the wolf killing it in the process.
Blood sprayed onto his face and onto the ground as the lifeless body of the dead wolf hit the ground.
After killing the wolf, some drop items appeared next to the wolf as they waited for their owner to come over and claim them.
All the monsters on the snowy mountains were as dangerous as the ones in [The Dark Forest] so even they dropped some items.
And after what seemed like a few seconds, the body of the wolf started to disintegrate.
The difference between the monsters that could leave drop items and the monsters that did not leave drop items was that the monsters that left drop items behind often disintegrated after a few seconds of being killed while the monsters that did not leave any drop items behind did not disintegrate and their meat could be consumed as well as be sold at the market for high prices.
"GRRR" growled all of the remaining wolves as they saw the young human kill their comrade whose boby started to disintegrate into nothingness.
Suddenly all of the remaining wolves pounced at Edward with their fangs bared at him.
Their attacks where all sloppy due to the fact that they had lost their brother/sister - Edward did not really know to which gender the wolf he killed belonged to, but what he knew was that he had managed to make all of these remaining wolves angry - and they were overcome with a large amount of grief.
So Edward decided to use this fact to his advantage as he started to dodge the simultaneous attacks from the wolves.
He then raised his sword and struck the nearest wolf to him, killing it in the process.
More blood sprayed around the area as the lifeless body of the wolf fell to the ground motionless.
Another set of drop items appeared next to the perished wolf as it, like its brother/sister before it, disintegrated into nothingness after a few seconds.
The remaining wolves began to howl and growl wildly as they saw the young human in front of them killing yet another one of their comrades.
Their eyes started to turn into a darker shade of red as their anger soared into an uncharted territory.
They started to attack Edward rigorously with no coordination at all. And their attacks were beginning to seem a lot more sloppy than they were before.
One of the wolves came close to making contact with Edward's face as it leapt upwards towards his face and then it swung its thin, yet dangerous, paw at his face.
Edward managed to dodge the flying wolf's punch effectively, right on time, by step backwards and slightly leaning his body backwards.
Edward quickly raised his sword and attacked the wolf as quickly as he could but the wolf was able to dodge but not without losing its tail to Edward's sword.
"Awuu~" howl the wolf as it felt its tail being cut off by Edward's sword.
Edward then smirked as he saw that he did not entirely miss his target as he was able to cut the wolf's tail off.
"Ha ha, that is what you get for trying to superman punch me !" said Edward with a proud expression on his face and huge smirk as he looked at the wolf which tried to superman punch him in the face, which caused the said wolf to growl at him intensely with a slightly irritated expression on its face.
"Wait, you guys can show expressions on your faces ?!" asked Edward with a slightly excited tone in his voice.
"Ha ! I knew it ! Those old man were lying ! They did not know what they were talking about !" exclaimed Edward as if he had found out something very valuable.
Edward was brought back from his stupor by a wolf that growled and launched itself at him.
Edward quickly dodged the attack from the wolf and quickly turned his body around and sliced the wolf in half through its exposed abdomen as if he were a batsman trying to hit a six from a terrible delivery.
The two halves of the wolf slid across the ground as the wolf's body parts landed on the ground heavily.
Another set of drop items appeared next to the spot where the wolf had been killed and this time though, the drop items that had appeared looked way better than the previous drop items and they even seemed to be more rare than the previous drop items.
These drop items would be able to fetch a high price at the market if he were to sell them there !
But Edward did not have any free time to think about these matters right now and instead he began to focus on the remaining wolves which were visibly getting more angry at this young man who had, yet again, managed to kill yet another one of their comrades.
The remaining wolves howled and growled wildly as they saw their brother's/sister's body disintegrate into nothingness.
Edward could swear on his life that he had just seen the wolves' eyes turn into an even darker shade of red as the four remaining wolves lost themselves further into their anger.
The wolf that had lost its tail to Edward's sword quickly ran towards him and pounced at him with its fangs bared at him.
Edward quickly managed to evade the wolf's attack and raised his sword to strike the wolf down.
He quickly swung his sword downwards at the wolf in an attempt to slice it in half but as he swung his sword towards the wolf.
The wolf did the unthinkable as it quickly turned around while it was still in the air and then it did a back flip and managed to dodge the young human's attack.
Edward's sword struck the snow on the ground and the blade managed to sink into the ground.
The tailless wolf then took this chance to make its attack and it leapt fiercely at him.
Edward was quick to evade the wolf's attack by ducking underneath the wolf.
While the wolf was flying through the air, Edward quickly rolled over from underneath the flying wolf and then he quickly retrieved his sword from the snowy ground and raised it to strike the wolf.
He twirled around in a 360° turn and swung his sword in the motion as if he was striking someone with the back of his palm and managed to cut off the wolf's ear this time around.
