Chapter 1: Chapter 1: A Chance

...

A primordial soul has been wandering in chaotic space for a long time.

It opened its eyes as it stared blankly at the void. The primordial soul thought for a moment: "How long has it been since I woke up?".

The primordial soul, though, tried for a moment to remember how it ended up in this space. The primordial soul sighed and said, I can't even remember who I am or how I died. The primordial soul then stared at the four crystal-like objects that orbited around him. He thought that as time went by, it would lose its attraction to him and drift away as it eventually disappeared from his view.

The primordial soul said, "Guess I'm wrong, as this should be the 19th time I've woken up since I first slept. God knows how long it has been since I have been here. I've always dreamed of something new that would be different after I'd woken from my slumber, but alas, I guess I'm doomed here to drift for eternity.

As the primordial soul was lost in his thoughts and reminisced, from afar could be seen the blinding light of a crystal-like object drifting; it was the same one that orbits the primordial soul. As it slowly approaches him, the primordial soul witnesses it moving in his direction. He then tries to maneuver himself toward it and holds it in his grasp. This one seemed a little different than the ones that orbit me, said the primordial soul.

The latter already has a chaotic aura coating itself and a sharp white one that keeps itself from assimilation into the primordial soul, while the other one in his grasp feels the same to himself, but its consciousness has already dissipated.

Then the primordia soul said, What a shame! I thought I would already have someone to accompany me to relieve this boredom and loneliness, but it doesn't have that white, sharp thing. Then could I possibly devour it? Maybe I could gain something, as he said. He then slowly pulls it towards his chest, which surprisingly devours the crystal. He felt an indescribable sensation throughout his whole being.

His mind went blank as an enormous amount of information appeared, but someone else's memory, as it assimilates itself to myself, then said that from what he had seen, it should be Alexander Pendragon. That's how they address this guy, who is also special one.Sadly, he died just a day before he graduated. The primordial soul then laughed in his thoughts, then said How ironic that you have studied and worked hard throughout your life, and then one day, a group of thugs attack, and you can't even have a chance to display your skills in martial arts. Someone pulled out a gun, and boom, you're dead.

Then the primordial thought to himself, "With this newly acquired memory, maybe there's a chance I could be free from this shackle." I envy him (Alexander) for being able to experience what life is like, even though he died before experiencing it.

The primordial soul stared at the four crystal-like objects that orbited around him, wondering if that chaotic aura was primordial chaos and if the sharp white thing was aether. Could it possibly become a system and rebirth me? Or should I wander aimlessly searching for a R.O.B. (random omniscient being reincarnating someone from the memories of Alexander in one of the novels he read)? Nah, I think that idea is not plausible since I've been here for a long time, even though time doesn't exist here. For one, I'm sure this crystal-like fragment should be a soul fragment from a powerful being. Just the pressure and aura it emits and the power it holds are clearly enormous compared to the universe; it's like a droplet of water in the ocean. As he said those words, one of the soul fragments broke apart and transformed into a blue panel.

[Granting the desire of the main fragment]

The primordial soul then fell into confusion, not knowing what the blue panel meant, as he felt a shock and wanted to fall into slumber as his vision went darker and darker.

The primordial soul then heard a voice as he woke up. "What a pitiful child being abandoned!" said the figure.

As I opened my eyes,I stared blankly at the figure. It appears she is a nun based on her attire. She then cradled me in her arms and said, "Don't worry, you won't feel lonely anymore, little one. Hmm, little Alexander."

5 YEARS LATER

It's been 5 years since I got into this orphanage. Sister Anna, the nun who took me in, named me Alexander, the same name as the soul I devour. I'm not against it since I will not lose anything to it.

Alex thought to himself, "This world is not the same one as what I expect to be a normal one, but a special one at that, based on what I've found watching the news and listening to Sister Anna's stories."

100 years ago, before the Great Catalyst, it was the same modern world in the memories of Alexander, but on September 20, 1915, there were many cases of people awakening and feeling the course of mana inside their bodies. Some say they also see a panel in front of them that states their stats. As more people awaken, the mana flow in the surroundings also increases, which gradually makes the animals and environment undergo huge changes.

A few months went by for people all over the world. Some religious people state that the power they gain comes from God to help civilization pave its path to the future and also suggest offerings to the gods. Just a day before this, the Great Catalyst initiated countless spatial cracks all over the globe, which spread all kinds of anomalies and different kinds of races from the fantasy world to Earth. The most notable changes happening are in the environment as countless fragments of space merge with the earth, whose size gradually increases at a noticeable speed.

The blue panel then states that it is needed for the stability of this reality, and in order to do that, it started to attract broken fragments of reality to fill the gap caused by the destruction.

I lost my composure when I heard a shout.

"Alex! "Come play with us!" shouted the girl. I look at her. "It's boring; why even bother me?" Alex spoke in an uninterested tone. Alex didn't even bother the little girl, then stared at the blue panel in front of himself and mind his business.

Alexander thought, once seeing his stats, what would be the reaction of others to this amazement? Envy?

Alex laid his back on the ground as he thought of his family background. Clearly, they are powerful; just the bloodline alone proves it.

The girl spoke. Alex, what's on your mind again? You didn't even bother me.

Alex answered, "I'm just too tired to play with you."

The girl pouted and said, "Hmmm, you're too tired." "You didn't even do anything; you just clearly immersed yourself in your own imagination."

Alex answered, "You, Sophia, Ahhhh!!" Just stop for a moment and listen to me. I know this will be our last meeting since you were adopted.

...

Alex, do you promise to meet me again? said Sophia

Alex answered yes. I promise I will visit you in the future. Don't worry about me, I said as I smiled at Sophia.

"So it's a promise," Sophia said as she smiled back.

Sophia then spoke. "Don't break your promise," she said as she ran back to the orphanage.

Alex thought promises were meant to be broken. He then closed his eyes to take a nap.
