Chapter 4: Success
Ryu's POV
I woke from my sleep and stretched my legs and arms as I reached for my glasses and put them on but I immediately threw them off because it hurt my eyes.
'Fuck, habit.'
I picked up my glasses on the floor and put them on the desk but when I looked at the screen I saw a blinking blue dot. I tapped on it and it was a voice recording and it started playing.
"I'm going to find you."
'Is this some kind of prank?'
I was scared so I tried to delete it but I couldn't figure out how to until finally after 5 minutes of searching I found it and deleted it. I sighed and put on the leather tights which I managed to take off with the same machine from the armory that was inside my room. I only put on the tights and left the room and headed towards the cafeteria. I passed a hallway with a window so I stopped and observed the earth. Being on an orbital station wasn't really the best thing I experienced but it was pretty nice.
'What earth is this?'
I watched for about 5 minutes before leaving and started heading towards the kitchen.
"Morning, don't tell me you slept with that on." said Kishimoto
"No, I was able to take it off." I replied
He laughed and patted my shoulder as he left to take a seat with a couple of his friends. I looked over at the food and for some reason, I just didn't feel like eating so I grabbed a bottle of orange juice and sat on an empty table and just drank the juice.
Everyone around me is enjoying their breakfast, laughing and talking amongst one another. I was used to this back at home but for some reason I felt really lonely right now, probably because for the first time in my life I felt wanted in the beginning. Now it's just like whatever, you can't use your augmentation so you're useless. But then I remembered the recording and I started thinking who sent the recording to me.
'Maybe Kurt should know.'
I got up, threw out my empty orange juice and headed towards Kurt's office. I knocked on the door and he came out looking confused.
"Morning advisor but I have a quick question." I said
"Yea, what is it?" asked Kurt
"Well, someone sent me a recording today and the recording was a threat." I said
Kurt raised an eyebrow.
"What did the recording say?" he asked
"It said, I'm going to find you." I replied, "I was wondering if you can check the computers for anyone who could have sent that."
"Okay, thanks for letting me know. I'll get back to you if I got anything." said Kurt
I nodded and I decided to not head back to the kitchen but back to my room. I looked at the screen and I saw another blinking light on it. At first I was scared because I didn't want to hear that voice again but I played it.
"Meet me in the training area." said a voice which sounded like Lydia's
I sighed in relief and put on my metal plating and grabbed my two swords and headed over to the virtual training area. Outside, Kishimoto and Lydia were waiting for me.
"Let's go again, this time we're changing up the stimulation." said Lydia
I nodded and went into the room and stood there for about 2 minutes until I started falling. Same intro where I land but this time I was in some kind of dark valley, about 50 yards apart and I was standing in a stream of water about calf high and about 30 yards wide.
'What am I supposed to do?'
That's when I heard some kind of chirping, like a critter chirping. I waited as the noise got louder and in front of me a whole army of bugs started charging at me.
"B-bugs?!" I shrieked
I hated bugs so much, the way they look was disgusting and they freak my out. I quickly closed my eyes shut and began to concentrate but too late, a bunch of giant roaches jumped onto me and started biting me. I tried shaking them off, frantically and in fear that I didn't realize that I was back in the room.
"Oi, Ryu calm down." said Kishimoto
I looked around and I was back in the room and sighed in relief.
"Look can both of you demonstrate for me, using the first virtual training environment I went through and with this." I called out
"Sure, come out." said Kishimoto
I left the room and Kishimoto came out from another door so I went in that room and in it was an observing room with windows to the training room. Inside, Lydia was sitting on a seat with a bunch of screens and buttons in front of her. I took a seat and Lydia started pressing some of the buttons and now I saw Kishimoto falling down onto earth and landing in the same plains with surrounding mountains.
I watched as the Mongol army charged at him so Kishimoto raised both of his arms and on both sides of the Mongol army, two giant dirt walls rose up from the ground. Then Kishimoto clapped his hands together in a praying position and the walls started to approach one another and the entire Mongol army was crushed in between the dirt walls.
"What the fuck..."
"That's augmentation, we're each born with one element. Kishimoto's augmentation is earth." said Lydia
"I see." I replied
The room turned back to normal and Lydia changed it to the one with the valley and bugs. The bugs started making their way to him, but I thought he was going to do the same thing again with the Mongol army but instead spikes made out of rocks from both sides of the valley impaling the bugs.
"Damn." I said
It was Lydia's turn so she left the room and Kishimoto came in with a smile and I just looked at him in awe.
"You'll get the hang of it." said Kishimoto as he took Lydia's seat
Kishimoto began pressing some buttons and Lydia went through the same intro and now she's facing the Mongol army. She took a knee and placed both of her hands on the ground and the ground began to shake. Then a whole stream of water started shooting off the ground, at least 8 water streams and they all fell towards the Mongol army. The Mongol army became engulfed in water and the stream of water stopped coming out of the ground and she then raised her arms up and the water formed into some kind of bubble with the entire Mongol army in there drowning.
"Oh shit." I mumbled
Kishimoto pressed a couple more buttons and now she's in the valley with the bugs all making their ways towards her. She then slowly raised both of her arms and I saw the water droplets from the stream float up into the air and they took the shape of sharp cones. She then froze them and they all went shooting into the bugs, killing every single one of them.
"What the fuck."
Lydia exited the room and entered our room.
"You're turn." she said
I sighed and reentered the room and I went through the same intro and I was in front of the Mongol army.
'Come on concentrate.'
I tried doing the same motion as Kishimoto and Lydia by raising up my arms but I only raised up one of my arms. I then felt some kind of throbbing in my chest and I felt darkness over me, I couldn't feel the sun rays hitting me so I opened my eyes and the sky was covered with dark clouds. I looked forward and the Mongol army started charging straight at me.
"Okay come on, come on.'
I used the feeling in my chest as a key thing and I started to hear thunder above me. Once I heard the Mongol army came about 50 feet I slammed my palm onto the ground and multiple lightning bolts hit the ground on top of the Mongol army. It caught me off guard that I didn't know what to do so I just stayed in that position and watched as the Mongols screamed in pain and they all began to turn into dust.
I pulled away from the ground and the lightning bolts stopped hitting the ground. Where stood the huge Mongol army was now just a burnt field of nothing.
"Holy shit, I did it!" I cheered
But before I could celebrate I fell through space and onto another earth and I was back in the valley. The bugs were all conversing onto me, but I didn't want to do the same thing so I clenched my fists and started concentrating. I felt the same throbbing in my chest and some energy feeling throughout my entire body and I felt the ground shake underneath me. I released all of it by putting my arms in front of me and lightning bolts came out of my hands and it destroyed every bug, turning them into dust.
I stood there in complete shock and awe. I looked down at my hands and I started feeling excitement in my heart.
"I did it, I finally did it!" I cheered
I was now back in the room just trying to take a breath from what just happened.
"Holy shit, you did it Ryu!" said Kishimoto through the loudspeaker
"I did it!" I excitedly called out
I left the room and Kishimoto and Lydia congratulated me on succeeding the augmentation training.
"Now all we need to teach you is hand to hand combat." said Lydia
"Okay, that's it then." I said
But before we headed towards the hand to hand combat training center, something buzzed on our forearm watches.
"Kurt is calling for you Ryu, in his office." said Lydia
"Ah, okay." I replied
I headed over to his office with the others and I entered the room, Kurt was sitting behind a desk with three chairs on the other side of it.
"Ah Ryu, come in. You two can stay if you want." said Kurt
They stayed so I took a seat in the middle while Kishimoto took a seat to my right and Lydia to my left.
"So about the recording, we did pick up Lydia sending you one." said Kurt
"Oh no, that was a different one. Someone sent me a recording before Lydia sent me hers." I said
"Someone sent you a recording?" asked Lydia
I nodded and she looked worried.
"What did the recording say?" asked Kishimoto
"It said, I'm going to find you." I replied
"We don't have anyone from the MVA who sent you that. Not even from the different outposts." said Kurt
"There are other outposts?" I asked
"Yes, we're the main one though." replied Kurt, "Anyways but I think I might have an idea who it is."
Kurt puts his hands on the desk and interlocks his fingers in front of his mouth.
"I think it's Demon." said Kurt
Lydia and Kishimoto groaned but I sat there in fear.
"What does she want from me? I didn't try anything, I didn't try to stop her." I said
"Demon is a very dangerous person." said Kurt
I started getting a bit uneasy.
"Well I do have a couple questions on Demon." I said, "Does she also have augmentation?"
"Yes she does, but now ever since she killed Lucifer, she received powers from him and they are beyond imaginable." said Kurt, "She can cast illusions, burn your organs just by looking at you, hypnotize you, and there's more that we don't even know."
"She can even escape my water trap which is impossible to escape." said Lydia
"The water circle thing you did in training?" I asked
"Yes." she replied
"Well what's her augmentation?" I asked
"Fire, she was a talented augmenter. But she took away Prime Ryu's augmentation and now she has two augmentations. Which one is impossible to control and two it's beyond our control." said Kurt
"So now, she has fire and lightning." I whispered in fear
"She can just unleash hell on any earth and that world would be hell on earth, literally." said Kishimoto, "We lost a lot of good men trying to destroy just one hell earth."
"How many are there?" I asked
"2." replied Kurt
"Oh that's not that bad." I said
"No it is bad, she's not doing it to other worlds cause she's busy looking for you." said Lydia
"But she already knows I'm here." I said
"Don't worry she won't attack, it'll draw unnecessary attention." said Kurt
"Okay but my biggest question is, if Lucifer existed then shouldn't there be a god?" I asked
"Whatever god there was abandoned us." said Kurt
"Oh man." I groaned in fear, "Has any Ryu ever got close to killing her?"
"No." replied Kishimoto
I groaned.
"And you expect me to do it, no thank you." I replied
"That's why we're still training you." said Kurt
"I know, I know." I replied
"Anyways good job on succeeding in your augmentation training. You're all dismissed." said Kurt
