Chapter 40: Chapter 40: Training day

Vulcan clasped his hands, throwing a jab, kick, and high knee. Every time he executed a move, it was as if he was creating small sonic booms. That's how powerful his attacks were now compared to his rank 3 body. Before he could take out his new rank 4 body to the field for missions, he needed to test how strong it was.

His other rank 4 sentry came out with him. When he was outside, he could see further mountain ranges, and what used to be the wyvern nest. He got a signal from one of the commando sentries. They had found a peak silver beast that resembled a large rock troll. The thing had been snacking on some of those large elks he had seen the first time he arrived at this place for the mission from Marchioness Valeria. It was about 4 meters tall, had thick fat limbs, and a rough almost rocky exterior. It was a perfect target to test his strength and see how far the gap between him and a peak silver grade beast was.

While the troll was enjoying its meal, as it crunched on bones and had blood running down its large mouth, it wasn't unaware that it was about to have its meal interrupted.

Loud booms rang out as two large 7-foot-tall metal beings fell from the sky. The troll, surprised by this, turned to the new enemies and let out a loud guttural roar to scare them away, but the beings just stood there eyeing him down. Angry and upset at being interrupted with its meal, the rock troll picked up a large boulder effortlessly and threw it with enough force to pulverize a large tree at one of the metal beings. He watched as the boulder made impact with the being, as the rock blew up into smaller chunks, but what he didn't expect was that the being would just tank the hit and not even move a single step. Every time it had used this move to capture its prey or hurt its enemies, it would be enough to leave them half dead.

Frustrated, the troll let out another loud roar and charged at the beings. It had a larger size than these small weaklings. It could use that to its advantage. Ten meters... 7 meters... finally, it was right in front of the things as it swung down with a hammer fist to pulverize the annoying things.

Too bad for the trolls that Vulcan had enough of the slow-moving giant. In fact, it annoyed him how loud and slow it was. This was supposed to be a peak silver beast? Before the downward fist connected, he shot out his left fist towards the trolls belly. The speed and force behind it was so strong that it pierced through the hard rock defense of the troll as his fist was completely swallowed by the large blubbery fat of the belly. It was sent shooting back as the troll collided against a rock wall, having the entire wall almost fall apart as cracks surrounded the impact crater. Groans and loud moans of pain escaped from the troll's mouth as it felt its entire body throb and ache from the punch it received.

But before it could die, its body began to regenerate. As everyone knows, trolls are known for their incredible speed of recovery. Vulcan watched the healing troll close the large hole in its belly within seconds. He had prepared for this, he raised his palm up towards the troll and fired an energy beam towards it once it was getting back up. The troll, unprepared for the next attack, was shoved back into the crater it had laid in before as the blast of energy tore through its body like it was made out of thin paper.

Not two seconds lasted as Vulcan stopped his attack and the troll had its entire body sliced in half from the waist. Confused at what had happened and its body unable to regenerate the cauterized charred parts of its body, it tried reaching towards its lower half as if shocked that it couldn't feel its legs anymore, desperately wanting to have them attached back to the rest of its body.

A large shadow was cast on it as Vulcan walked up to its top half and raised his foot down on the troll's head, stomping its head as it caved in easily. The sound of bone, brain, and flesh getting crunched beneath his foot was cathartic to Vulcan. After that, he received the notification that he had killed the troll.

"At least you had your final meal," he said as he gazed at the pile of bones and carcass of the elk the troll had feasted on. This fight had proved to him that he was really above peak silver already but if he was low, middle, or peak gold he did not know yet. It was hard to gauge his strength with such a slow and weak troll.

He went back to his medium-sized factory and decided to test his strength against his rank 3 sentries. After being able to fight against 50 of them until feeling like he was being suppressed he gave it a rough estimate that he might be between middle or peak gold. He didn't understand how the factories fluctuated the strength of his sentry bodies. He knew for a fact that if he used iron to make a rank 1 sentry it would be a guaranteed peak bronze fighter. If he used steel to make rank 2 sentries then they would be low iron stage. Then he used the black gold/Olcrum to make rank 3 sentries of peak silver stage. But now with an alloy of the Wyvern scales/Olcrum his body was now middle gold. Was it the metals that he used the cause of it? What if he used alloys of metals, would he be able to experiment and see which metals create the different strengths of the sentries? This he would have to figure out himself since the system didn't offer assistance in this.

He would have to visit that Smith named Harrold again to see if he could create more alloys for him or if the man can be bought, then have him show him this world's methods of metallurgy. Vulcan knew of the techniques from Earth but this was a fantasy world with magic and extraordinary beasts, its rules and laws applied a lot differently.

While Vulcan had been occupied with his experiments, he was also exploring more of Krestfall with Jess as they decided to take a small break from their adventurer work. The last quest had shown him that they were getting a bit ahead of themselves; even if Jess had just gotten stronger, she had almost died during the fight. Vulcan had been taking her to the adventurers' guild training grounds to have her practice her new abilities.

The reason he hadn't swapped out his sentries to the new and better improved rank 3 and now rank 4 bodies would be too much of a drastic change. People like Esteban and Valeria would be asking more questions, so he decided that after the 50 days of them staying in the 'Golden Noble', they would head out to another kingdom. He was thinking maybe Oros this time, just to see what he could find in that kingdom.

After that, he would try the red desert dunes that separated the southern kingdoms from the northern kingdoms. There were city-states in those regions as well as nomadic tribes that would wander the desert. Then, once and for all, he would head out to the northern kingdoms which were called the Alliance of the Five Golden Kingdoms.

It was named that way since all the kingdoms in the north had been living in prosperity and harmony with one another due to all of them having several gold-stage fighters and mages. Kind of like the countries back on Earth that had nukes. Everyone could kill each other but they knew once someone started the war it would be heavy losses for everyone. So they slowly annexed other smaller kingdoms that were weaker around them until it was the big five that were left standing. Now they focused their attention on the rest of the continent.

There had been stories that they had tried capturing the city-states of the Red Desert but have been mostly unsuccessful due to the harsh environment as well as the many beasts that roamed the area. A city-state could easily close its walls and be self-sustaining until the enemy outside its walls exhausted their supplies and the environment took its toll on their troops.

They would even leave bait traps for strong creatures to attack the enemy. Some city-states are known to have a form of contract between themselves and sand elementals that would bring enormous sandstorms and crush the city-state's enemies for them. No one knew how they were able to do this since taming an elemental was unheard of anywhere else on the continent.

"I wonder if I can take on a sand elemental, that would be worth a fight."
