Chapter 56: Visitor

Aaryn was really at a loss as to what he was supposed to do.

Transformed as a fluffy teal cat, he hid in the dead grasses, onyx eyes narrowed at the abode where the Jackal god dwelled, and the limp, small hand he captured within his grasp.

The hand of the priestess he had met with not too long ago.

'...She was that desperate, huh? Still, using Khonsu like that... a shame she is not employed under Goddess Bast. In the meantime...'

His gaze raked over the dwelling, a sweat drop descending if he could sweat as a rather daunting situation presented itself.

'How am I supposed to remind him of the conference?!'

On top of gathering general information, Aaryn was responsible for notifying the gods on his side about the upcoming conference with the other pantheons, in order to formally declare war.

Personally, he did not quite understand the logic of having a conference to declare war on other beings; he was under the impression that you just kind of... start battling them, or maiming their people or stealing their resources, but he decided that if he wanted to stay alive, he ought to do the work.

As such, he would serve as a faithful messenger for his Patron for as long as he needed to, and would hopefully escape being killed in the middle of it all.

Except, it seemed that he would fail in the whole "not being killed" department.

"What on Earth is a cat doing here?"

"Yeah, and look at that color—even if this place is weird as heck, I doubt that System-thingamajig would make a cat look exactly like the ones on Earth, and then make it teal; that would be especially lazy of it."

"No wait, that would make sense, especially with the whole laziness thing; I mean, look at the leveling system—not only is it crap and super hard to level up, but the disparity between the Gods and Humans just isn't fair."

The teal cat in question, Aaryn, stared at the twins and the small girl that followed the Norse snake-man while they stared down at him, and started wondering if they would actually get around to killing him, or if he was just being paranoid.

"Honestly, given how lazy the System has been, I wouldn't be surprised if it started talking."

"I can, actually."

Dead silence ensued while the three Players stared at the cat with wide eyes, wondering if the impossibility of their situation and this world had finally gotten to them.

"...Um. Okay, so, Truth, I think those late nights are getting to me—your older brother has finally gone mad due to poor sleeping habits."

"While I do think that is also true, I'm fairly certain we just heard that cat speak."

Dare immediately began scowling at his younger twin while Ime piped up, ash gray eyes wide and calculative, "I also heard it, so despite your crap sleeping habits, I'm pretty sure this cat spoke just now, so now the question lays in what it wants."

All three of them quieted down, staring at the cat expectantly before Aaryn huffed.

"Okay, okay, you caught me—"

'You gave yourself away,' the three thought, finding his world weary tone pretentious, if not dramatic.

"Now, take me to your leaders. Actually, forget your leaders, take me to Lord Anubis—I need to inform him of something important."

"Important?" Ime questioned, tilting her head to the side slightly before blinking owlishly. "What could be so important that someone needs to use a talking cat as a messenger?"

"Oh." Aaryn sounded, confused momentarily, "You guys didn't hear from your Patron?"

"Hear what?" they chorused, anticipation beginning to build at the cat's tone.

'Are the Norse not connected at all?' Aaryn wondered before replying:

"The Gods are going to war, but before that they're gathering in a conference; as such, all Gods, Monsters, Priests and Priestesses must be present from all of the different factions before officially declaring war."

"...Eh?"
