Chapter 2: Just a werewolf

"Who the hell are you? Show yourself now! And where is the dog!?" Carl tightened his fist, locking his sharp eyes on the doggy ears behind the couch.

"Oh please! I surrender!"

"Put your hands over your head and come out," his deep voice commanded sharply.

Carl swore furiously when this furball did nothing but stay still, only his fluffy tail and pale naked bum popping out from behind the couch. Finally, after a few moments, the boy put his hands up once he was sure that the gun wouldn't fire on its own all of a sudden. His folded ears now arose, following his hands. When the fluffy intruder stood up and stepped forward, his tail curled in between his legs out of fear. Phew, the only advantage of having a tail is to cover up what shouldn't have been seen!, Keaw though.

Carl was almost in his 40s and had seen many strange things, but he'd always managed to stay cool. He was so sure that nothing could ever easily surprise him. But this human being with fluffy ears and a tail in front of him made him frown. Carl slowly walked over while poking one of the ears with the tip of his Glock. The ear moved naturally, as if it were real. Actually, he clearly saw the movement of the muscle from the tip of the fluffy ear connecting directly to the boy's head and hair.

It's real!

"Nggg… Nggg… Waaaa," cried the boy. Carl's sharp eyes flicked when he heard his whining.

With a quick look, this creature looked just like a normal college student, with his fair skin and neck-length black hair (with ears and a tail). His face lowered so Carl couldn't read his expression, only a big teardrop running down his pink face. With a closer look, Carl saw that his nails were as small and sharp as a dog's nails.

"I'm scared. Please, don't hurt me. I… I…" The boy sobbed uncontrollably.

"Look at me and explain now… What are you?" Carl stepped back and lowered his gun, his finger still locked on the trigger.

"I'm just a werewolf…" His soft eyelids blinked, his bright brown eyes looking up.

"That ID card." Carl recognized the face immediately. Remarkably, his eyes looked exactly like a dog's eyes. That stubborn-ish upturned nose and those full, pink lips made him look even younger. The ID card said that he was 21 years old. Carl highly doubted that this boy made a fake ID since he looked much younger.

"Please let me go. I'll run as far as I can, so that you won't ever see me again," Kaew sniffed, his round eyes glancing at the gun.

Carl froze, feeling anxious for no reason. Werewolf. Isn't that some kind of folklore or a bedtime story where a human turns into a wolf during a full moon? But this boy doesn't look savage at all. If I wanted to kill a werewolf, only silver bullets would do. But these were just normal bullets in my gun…

Growl~

".!." Carl frowned.

"I'm not threatening you! It's just my stomach…" The boy lowered his hands to cover his belly in embarrassment, his ears slightly rosy while his tail wiggled in relief. Wait. What about the front then?, Kaew though.

"Your clothes…"

"Huh? Oops! I'm so sorry." Kaew looked at himself, then moved his hands to cover what was dangling between his legs.

"Go get dressed." Carl tucked his gun away in his waistband.

He grabbed the leather backpack from the chair and threw it to the boy, who was blushing and trying to cover up.

"It's a waning moon tonight," said Carl. He kept his stern eyes locked on the boy's every movement.

"What did you say?" Kaew tilted his head while holding his t-shirt tightly.

"It's not a full moon. Why did you shift?"

"That's just a tale. It's pretty cute that you believed it. We real werewolves shift every day after sunset." He finally smiled.

Pretty cute… Carl froze, looking at the boy who just cried earlier. Now, this boy had just called him cute. He really had experienced so many crazy things in his life, but not like this. Not ever.

He knew one thing for sure. The dog he'd picked up from the street was the same creature as this claimed-to-be werewolf.

The next question: How should I handle this?

"I'll leave," said the boy, carrying a backpack over his back and intending to leave for good. He walked confidently toward a door in his three-striped sweatpants. But it was just a storage room door. "Hehe… the wrong way." He scratched his ear and turned the other way. This time, he opened the door that led to Carl's office.

"…" Carl looked at the black-hair boy walking all over his 200 square meter condominium as if it were a maze. Kaew couldn't seem to find a way out.

"Wow! Your swimming pool is so pretty. The view is super nice too. It's sparkling like stars in the sky! I don't even have to look up to see the sky anymore since it's right there in the pool!" He put his face against the window, looking out at Bangkok at night from the 30th floor.

Carl laughed. He looked at his own reflection in the same window, his thin lips curling into a smile with his stern eyes turned gentle, surprised him once again.

"Can you show me the way out?" said the boy? He looked at Carl, starting to get a little scared again, but he found his courage as the tall man stopped making such a scary expression.

His wolf instincts told Kaew that this man wasn't as scary as he seemed to be. Now that he'd calmed down, his ears and tail slowly disappeared. His werewolf form disappeared, and now he was just a bright young boy.

"You're hungry, aren't you?" said Carl. "Let's eat something and then we can talk." You can lure a dog with food, he thought.

I wonder if it's the same with a werewolf.
