I started with invisibility magic. There are two ways to become invisible. The first way is to bend light around me and the second way makes the light pass through me. I decided to learn the first method because with it I can not only make myself invisible but it can also make the area around me invisible too.
I spread a thin layer of mana around me. As mana is a special kind of energy no one other than mages can sense it. Even sorcerers of this world can not sense it because they use dimensional energy. But because all mages can sense mana this type low level invisibility is useless against mages.
After I spread mana area around me I will it to bend the light. I feel mana shift slightly. So I know I was successful. Next is to learn the mage hand. This one was easy. I just need to shape mana in the form of a hand and control it. But it is hard to control like a hand. I need to practice with it but not now. Next is eagle eye magic. I focus mana in my eyes to see farther. Because mana belongs to me it will not harm me so I can try this magic with confidence. After I am done with eagle eye magic I learned noise canceling magic. I use mana to cancel sound waves.
«That is enough for now. I need to learn healing magic.»
Healing magic divides into two types. The first type just speeds up normal recovery speed. It uses less mana and is generally used to heal minor injuries. The second type uses mana to create missing parts of the injuries. This one is used to heal things like missing arms or legs.
I started with the first type as I need to buy a lab rat for the second type. I made a small cut with ice on my arm. Then I used the first type of healing magic and my injury was covered with green light. I feel a slightly itch in my arm and my arm started to heal visible to the naked eye.
The next day I cut the arm of the lab rat I brought. Then I used the second type of healing magic. The arm of the lab rat started to grow. But the progress was slow. It took five minutes to grow the arm of the lab rat. It will take hours to grow an arm of a human.
«Looks like I need to learn anatomy.»
I go to the library and find a book about human anatomy. With the «Memory Palace» it took me just ten minutes to memorize the book. Of course, memorizing does not mean learning. I need to look over it again later date.
Next is magics I want to learn for a long time. Portal and teleportation. Portals connect a point in the space layer to another point in the space layer. It used to travel long distances. While teleportation is a displacement of one space layer with another. It can only be used in the area of space sense. It is used in fights.
I started with the portal. It can connect two points as long as I remember the space layer. That means I can not go to the place I had been before I became a mage.
«I need to travel all the places in New York to be able to open portal wherever I want.»
I choose two points in the space layer. They are just five meters away from each other. Then I focus on the two points because there is where I want to open the portal. Then I connected two points. There appeared two blue edged portals. I can see the other end from the first point. The same is true for the second point. I throw an ice cube into the portal and it comes out of other portal.
When I am sure portal magic was successful I try teleportation magic. But instead of teleporting myself, I try to teleport a wooden board. Teleportation can only be done in the area of space sense so I can only use teleportation magic within 150 meter radius. I place a wooden board in front of me and choose an area in my space sense. Then I displaced the wooden board and chosen area. As this is my first try part of the wooden board was left behind. Only on my third try, I was successful. I teleported the wooden board few more times to get used to it. After that, I try to teleport the lab rat. This time I feel resistance from the lab rat. It feel like there was some kind of energy inside lab rat and it was actively resisting me.
