Chapter 462: CHPT 462: Drinking in Secret…
"So….. you think you're going global now that you're a Main Entrant? Is that it, wolfboy?" Chase asked as they all sat at the dinner table eating. It was hard to believe they were barely escaping a Tangent only a few hours ago.
"[He doesn't shut up, does he?]" Arne questioned.
"Not unless we're fighting." Claude replied while scarfing down his steak and rice. It still tasted burnt and smelled oddly… sick? But he could manage it without scowling so openly.
"I would like to know what the whole endeavor was like for you all. But I understand how Chase' mouth may have ruined that." Conroy muttered, seated across from Ursula as he cooled his food with his element.
"I've ruined nothing, condork." Chase muttered.
"Oh you know... magically Reborn cavemen and shit like that. Something to get the sweat going." Ursula joked before adding, "Prof. Raizen tried to lock us inside the Tangent after killing the boss with a Lightning bolt from hell."
The others looked at them in surprise.
"I got carried out of a cave by a dinosaur." Warren said from a terrified face. He said he couldn't eat because the smell of Diamondbacks breath was still in his mind.
"We made it just fine. We aren't weak just because we're first years." Maris commented on the other side of Claude.
"Right…" Stella commented.
"Oh I didn't say you were…"
Maris pointed her fork at them, "Your face is being weird….. it's saying the opposite of your words. Same for the cat woman."
Conroy held up his hands, "Alright, guilty. Fair play, Maris. I mean no offense. I take it you two did fine…" He said while pointed at Claude and Ursula, "Your strength growth is tangible even now. But the rest of your team was just in the Tangents with us. You get it?"
Claude nodded as he playfully bumped shoulders with Ursula and Maris, "Me and Ursula had to get through some b.s out there. But as a trio they did too. We'll get it done. We have to. There's more out there to worry about."
Conroy nodded before taking a bite of his food, "I didn't expect you to come back so... well adjusted. I actually expected a second coming of everything that happened the last time you two were separated. What changed?"
"[Always the interested one.]" Arne commented.
"More responsibility." Was all Claude said. He suddenly wondered how Cassidy and the Satyr's were doing with Rollan. He hoped the Bounty Hunter made it home. It would be nice to have another Lupine at his back for the Tournament.
He could feel Maris watching him before she turned to Warren and whispered, "We need more responsibility…. Immediat—UGH!"
SPLAT!
"Oh come on!" Warren cursed before looking over at Maris, "H-hey…. What the hell?"
Before she could finish her words she coughed up a mouthful of blood into Warren's shoulder and the side of his face. Immediately after, while everyone was still clearly stunned, she fell over onto Claude unconsciously.
Claude grabbed her chin to make her face him, "Maris—…."
He trailed off as the sickening smell that he assumed was his food filled his nostrils. It was the blood.
"She's sick. We need to get her to a medic, now." Claude said to Ursula before picking up Maris and heading out of the cafeteria. The others followed and exited the silent Mess Hall.

An hour passed by with a series of Doctors and Reborn Healers looking over Maris and hooking her up to IV bags and who knew what else.
Claude and the others stood by answer questions whenever they were asked. Prof. Raizen even stopped by a few times. He looked furious. Claude had never seen him so angry.
It had been a while since then, they were all left with a final message from the last Doctor to come in.
"Maris…. Has traces of a compound found in Moorseel blood in her system. It's an herb that's toxic to humans but they have the evolved…. Or less evolved organs suited to process it. What I'm saying is, Maris ingested a large amount of an Herb first years shouldn't even be next to. Do you guys know where she's been recently?"
Of course they knew. Everyone in the room had been silent since then. They knew where Maris had been because they were there too. And they knew it wasn't just the herb she ingested.
She drank Moorseel blood.
