Chapter 10: Chapter 10

As I reach the car I felt the need to cry.

But for my mother's sake, I decided against it.

The last thing I need is for her to send me to a mental hospital.

I opened the car door and hopped inside.

"Is your friend okay?" My mother asked.

"I'm not too sure," I answered.

She looked away from me, turned on the car, and drove off.

***

As we pulled up to the house I see Barry sitting on our porch.

Oh god please help me.

The moment my mom parks the car I get out and head over to where Barry is sitting.

"BARRY!" I shrieked.

Barry stood up as I got closer. I wrapped my arms around him but he didn't hug me back.

He just stood there.

I let go and take a step back.

I opened my mouth to say something but my mom interrupted me.

"Hello Barry," my mom said.

"Hi, Ms. Alston" Barry replied.

"I hate to do this but after you guys talk, You and Dre will not be able to see each other outside of school until further notice" my mom stated firmly.

"BUT MA—"

"End of discussion Dre." she snapped and my face fell.

"You two have five minutes to talk and then I want you inside so we can discuss your punishment further."

And with that, she walked up the porch and entered the house.

She could have at least locked the door before she left to get me.

I looked at Barry and he looked heartbroken, absolutely crush.

"Barry I am so sorry I—"

"Sorry about what? The fact that you didn't tell me that something happened when you were with Nathan? Or the fact that you lied to me about what happened."

"I never lied to you about what happened" I snapped.

"You never told me the full story either" he snarled. "The whole school thinks you two are in jail now."

"Look, Nathen had gotten in a fight with four older guys that's it. Nothing happened" I stated.

"Then why couldn't you tell me about it," He said harshly.

"It wasn't my place Barry. I wasn't lying to you then and I am not lying to you now."

I am though.

"I wish you would have told me. I could've helped or something" he said much calmer now.

" Like what? You weren't there."

There was silence for a beat.

"I'm sorry Barry."

He sighed "me too, I shouldn't have snapped at you like that."

He wrapped his long arms around me and I knew everything was going to be alright with us.

"I want more of the details tomorrow at school since you grounded for the first time in your life," he said with a laugh and I joined him.

"Ok, I promise to tell you everything tomorrow."

Why can I not stop lying?

"DRE!" My mom called.

I let go and walked past him and up my porch.

I turned toward him.

"Let me get in this house before she chokes me to sleep," I said with a chuckle. "See you tomorrow Barry Allen"

He cringed "Bye Andrea Alston."

I looked at him and flipped him off.

He just laughed at me as I walked through my door and shut it.

***

When I had walked into the house my mom gave me a rundown of what's going to happen.

I can no longer go anywhere but to school and home until further notice.

My phone privileges have been provoked until further notice.

No one can come to my house unless for schoolwork, including Barry.

The only reason I have my computer is that I have a project to finish but when that is over I have to hand it to her.

I'm hoping that this "until further notice" thing is temporary.

After that, I had taken a long hot shower and put on some sweatpants and a sports bra.

I have been laying down on my bed staring at the ceiling for what seems like hours.

Until I heard a creaking noise.

I quickly turned my head towards my door, trying to listen to what that noise was.

But I didn't hear anything else.

I got up from my bed and reached for my doorknob hesitantly.

I opened my door and walked towards my mom's door to see if that was her.

Her door was cracked, so I peaked in.

She was laying down with paper scattered all over her bed and drool on the side of her mouth.

I shut her door quietly and walked back to my room.

But the sound of the floorboards creaking downstairs stopped me in my tracks.

I took a breath and walked as slowly as I can downstairs, to lessen the noise.

When I walked to the bottom of the stairs I saw that there was no one there.

But the front door was wide open.

Something told me to walk out the door.

It was like a magnet pulling toward the outside.

I looked around the living room to make sure no one was here and then I walked outside.

***

I had no idea where I was going.

It felt like my feet were just taking me somewhere.

I don't even remember how I have gotten into the woods. I've been walking for about forty minutes now. Barefooted.

This place kind of seems familiar.

"Andreaaaaaaa."

I stopped dead in my tracks.

I've heard that voice before.

But where?

The interrogation room.

"You want power don't you?" The lady's voice asked.

"WHO ARE YOU? WHAT DO YOU WANT?"

I looked around.

I didn't see anyone.

I didn't hear anyone.

Why am I here?

I need to go back.

I turned around and tried to remember my way back as I walked.

"I want you to be powerfulllllll," the lady said but I ignored her.

No one is there.

It's just your imagination.

You are losing it.

I started to walk faster and faster until I was running.

The faster I ran, the more scared I got.

Who is that lady?

As I was running something had pulled me back so hard I flew backward and slid across the ground hitting my head on a rock.

I grabbed my sensitive head.

My eyes were blurry.

But I can see a shadow figure.

I blinked a couple of times to try and see who it was but it was no use.

I felt weak. Numb.

As she walked closer I tried to crawl backward.

But it was no use.

She was now standing in front of me.

"What do you want?" I asked weakly.

She crouched down and reached for my face.

***

I sat up abruptly.

My breathing heavy and fast.

I looked around a few times to assess where I was.

My room.

I had a nightmare.

I plopped back down and rubbed my face.

This was the first time that I have had a nightmare that I remembered.

I looked at the time on the small clock that my mom had handed me since she took my phone.

4:42

I sat back up and pulled the cover back to get ready for the day.

But when I looked at my clothes they were covered in dirt.

And my feet were stained with mud.

What the hell?
