Chapter 29: Twenty-Seven
I felt rays of sunshine tickle my eyes and roused myself from slumber. With a yawn, I cautiously crept out. The clothes RoBro had materialised before I had arrived was covered in dust.
With the light of day, I could see my surroundings more clearly. I began to walk in a random direction for several minutes until I heard the sound of flowing water. I rushed to the river and drank the crystal clear nectar.
With my thirst quenched, I observed my surroundings and saw signs of a used path. I followed it until I found a wide road. In the distance, I saw several carts approaching.
I waited till they drew close before I made my appearance. The carts were filled with miscellaneous items.
"Hold!"
The four carts stopped and a tall man with large arms jumped down from the leading vehicle.
"You need something?"
He eyed me cautiously. I couldn't blame him for being wary of bandits.
"Hello. My name is Rei. I'm looking for the closest village. Perhaps you can point me in the right direction?"
The three other men came out and examined me. I looked at them with a peaceful gaze and stood silent.
"What do you wanna do?"
"It's on our way anyway."
"He doesn't seem like a bad guy."
"We're on our way to the village anyway. Let's just bring him along, let them handle it."
After reaching a consensus, the large man invited me aboard.
"I really appreciate your aid."
"Try not to fall off."
With that our journey continued. After an hour or so had passed, the men handed me some bread and fruits which I gratefully devoured.
Our silent procession moved steadily and after about another 2 hours, we arrived at the gates of a large village. The carts pulled to a stop and the tall man went to speak to the guards. A moment later they were waved in.
"We're finally here. What a long journey. My body aches."
"It's a long trip to Konoha, but the opportunities right now are worth it."
"Guess so, the village did take heavy damage."
I listened to their conversation in silence. Seemed like I was in Konoha. The damage they spoke of got me thinking.
I observed my surroundings and saw a lot of the buildings looked new.
"What's the damage you speak of?"
They turned to me with an incredulous expression.
"Have you been living in a hole?"
"He looks the part."
"Enough. The destruction caused by the demon fox 6 years ago is well known."
6 years since the attack on Konoha?
"I see. So what are the opportunities you spoke of?"
"We're merchants. We've made the trip here several times to replenish the supplies. Things like spices, clothes and jewellery are in high demand right now."
The large man returned and climbed aboard as we were waved through. I took in the view of the bustling streets until I saw the Hokage Rock.
The huge faces of the village's leaders overlooked the citizens. The four faces were carved with such care and precision, I couldn't help but whistle in appreciation.
"Right? Gets me every time. We'll be parting ways here. What do you intend to do?"
"Where's the closest branch office? I'd like to apply for citizenship."
"We'll drop you off."
We parted ways amicably as I entered a small office.
The citizenship process was relatively simple. There was a sensor type ninja who tested my chakra level which proved I wasn't much better than a genin. After a few other tests, I earned citizenship.
I had no money right now or a place to stay so I walked around looking for signs of work.
As I strolled through the streets I saw a familiar restaurant. I entered slowly and saw that it was empty except for the owner.
The middle-aged across from smiled as he saw me.
"Welcome. What can I get you?"
"Sorry to intrude but I'm actually looking for work. I was wondering if you had an opening?"
"Work huh? Sigh. I understand how difficult it can be. I'm afraid I can't offer you a position right now."
"The money isn't important right now. I'd be willing to work for room and board."
He seemed somewhat taken aback.
"Really? I know it's difficult but you may find a paying job if you look hard enough."
"I'm sure. So what do you say?"
"In that case, welcome aboard. My name is Teuchi. Sorry for the late introduction."
'Not at all. My name is Rei. I'll be in your care.'
"Good. You start tomorrow. I'll show you to your room."
He led me through the back of the restaurant and up some stairs. My room was relatively small. Only a small table and futon furnished the room. A full body mirror was leaning on the wall across the bed.
"Thank you. I'll get settled in."
He nodded and headed back downstairs.
I sat down with my legs crossed and focused once more on my chakra. The new network felt extremely strange to me. If I thought about it, I could remember how ki should've felt strange to me, but the lack of memories made it feel second nature. Now with the memories of two bodies, this third felt extremely bizarre.
I cleared my mind and focused on getting accustomed to the inner workings of this body. I felt my eyes itch as I moved the chakra through my body. Tentatively I led the chakra where it wanted to go.
In an instant, felt my vision enhance beyond anything I thought possible. The walls surrounding me became transparent as I saw the chakra of numerous people in the streets.
Sitting still and being able to see behind you was not an easy concept to grasp. As I calmed myself I focused on extending my vision into the distance. I could saw everything for about 1 km around me.
A few moments of examining my surroundings, I relaxed my eyes and my vision returned to normal. I stood to examine my appearance in the mirror.
I saw my reflection for the first time in my new life. I was about 185cm tall and looked to be in my late twenties. My mess of dark brown hair resembled that of Shisui's. My skin was quite tan, much like Hashirama. I had to admit I looked quite handsome. My lavender eyes had a visible black pupil in the centre.
'Hey, RoBro? Could you bring up my status?'

The other bloodline abilities remained empty. I had to bring them out first. Luckily, the Byakugan is accessible from birth. The Sharingan on the other hand.
'Sigh...that hatred nonsense is really annoying. Guess I'll leave that for now.'
I didn't know any jutsu but that didn't stop me from trying some ninjutsu.
I focused my chakra into my hand and imagined it rotating at high speed. The result of my attempt was outstanding. A huge sphere of spiralling chakra floated above my palm and filled the room.
'Woah! What's with this size?!'

I focused and soon enough, the Rasengan disappeared.
'Wait 5 times? Why didn't that sensor type ninja sense it?'

'A month? What am I supposed to do?'
RoBro remained silent as I sat in deep thought.
Suppressing chakra? Suppression...sealing...
'That's it! RoBro is it possible to suppress the chakra using fuinjutsu?'

'That's good enough for me. Can you deduce a seal if you saw one?'
