Chapter 39: chapter 39: Flashback

"Ro... Rowan!" Noelle exclaimed in surprise.

"You finally decided to show up, kid!" Yami said with a grin.

"You did good, Noelle. I'll take it from here." Rowan turned to face Noelle and smiled reassuringly.

"Boy, You finally showed up. Once I kill you, everyone will see the true despair." Vetto's mana suddenly rose up at an alarming rate as he glared menacingly at Rowan." Hahaha... the mana is overflowing it whispers to me, telling me to make you despair!"

"Noelle, get yourself and the others somewhere safe. I'll handle him." Rowan said with a determined look on his face.

"But, I can't just leave you here to face him alone." Noelle tried to protest but Rowan silenced her with a shake of his head.

A bright smile spread across his face as he rubbed her silver hair and said, "Trust me, Noelle. I got this!".

Noelle's heart skipped a beat as she felt the determination radiating off of Rowan.

With a wave of his hand, Rowan summoned the moon blade and stepped toward Vetto with fierce determination in his eyes.

As he passed the bodies of Kiato, Kahono, Magna, and Luck, a surge of rage exploded from inside him, fueling his mana and empowering it beyond his control. His eyes glowed brilliant blue as he finally passed Asta's body.

"Everyone, you did good," Rowan said, his voice full of determination and strength. "Now, let me handle the rest." With a wave of his hand, the moon blade shimmered in the brilliant blue light and Rowan stepped forward to face Vetto.

"Boy, what are you doing?" The High Priest shouted. "He can't possibly think of fighting Vetto himself! Even before his transformation, he was a problem!"

"Don't underestimate that kid! The boy know how to pull out tricks from his sleeve. There is a reason why I am so confident in him." Yami had a flashback to when he first met Rowan.

Flashback-

People were running away from the briar, fear and shock filling their faces as the briar spread rapidly, consuming everything in its path. Suddenly, a young boy appeared. His eyes filled with determination as he stood in front of the briar, ready to take it on.

He had an ice sword in both of his hands as he ran towards the pile of briar and with a single swing, he managed to cut it in half. But there seemed to be no end to the briar as they attacked, with more and more coming from every direction.

No matter how tired he was, the boy never stopped. He kept on swinging and slashing with his sword, managing to keep the briar at bay.

Suddenly a voice sounded from behind the boy Startled, the boy spun around and saw a man in a black robe. Yami had a stern look on his face as he asked, "Hey brat do ya have a death wish or something?"

"No, ha ha- they... they said someone's in trouble in here, so I need to save... quickly!" The boy said while heavily sweating.

"Bhahahah... save? Can you save yourself first?" Yami laughed.

"Shut up! I'm going to be the wizard king. I can't be stopped by anything or anyone!" The boy declared determination and conviction in his voice.

Yami crossed his arms and narrowed his eyes, observing the boy carefully. "Then let's see what you can do," he said, a hint of a smile on his lips.

As he madly cut the briar suddenly his hands and feet were grabbed by vines that had snuck up behind him, wrapping themselves tightly around his arms and legs.

He gritted his teeth in pain as the vines threatened to rip his hands and feet apart. The briar kept on attacking, and he was struggling to break free.

"Ok, playtime is up kid," Yami said as he unleashed his katana but before he could do anything, the boy suddenly burst out with powerful energy that pushed all of the briar and vines back. His pupils suddenly dilated and became vertical like a cat, and he raised his sword high in the air. With a loud roar, he swung his sword down, cutting through the briar and vines with ease, and then he collapsed to the ground, exhausted.

A blank expression remained on her face for a moment before he snapped back to reality.

He had a strange mark on his forehead that glowed brightly and disappeared in another second.

"You okay, brat? What was that flashy move?

"I don't know," the boy replied, still looking stunned.

Then he noticed something and waved his sword, pointing it in the direction of the briar.

He cut it and he could see a woman fully roped in a briar. The boy rushed towards the woman, slicing through the briar as he ran. He quickly freed her and lifted her up into his arms.

The woman stared at the boy in awe as he confidently turned to Yami and said, "See, I can do anything as long as I don't give up."

But before he could get an answer from Yami the briar suddenly surged forward and engulfed them both.

The boy tried to cut them but his hands also were grabbed by the vines that had snuck up behind him, wrapping themselves tightly around his arms and neck.

Yami reacted quickly, slashing his katana in a wide arc and cutting the vines that were holding the boy. The boy stumbled back, barely managing to stay on his feet with the woman still in his arms.

"Thanks for the help, but I can handle-" The boy intended to say something, but Yami interrupted him.

"What's your name, Brat?"

"Huh? My name is Rowan."
