Chapter 5: Chapter 5: Captain's Meeting

In a large hall, twelve white-robed individuals were standing.

"Hollows appear in the Rukongai often, why are you so concerned over a few missing souls?"

A brawny man with an exposed chest and a mane of spiky black hair seemed annoyed that this meeting was even called.

"It is not just a few missing souls, Kuruyashiki. Nearly 1,000 souls vanished from the 12th division's reiatsu detector in an instant."

A busty woman with pink hair and swirls on her cheeks stood opposite the lackadaisical 11th division captain Kuryashiki Kenpachi. She was the captain of the 12th division and department of research & development - Kirio Hikifune.

"Do we have any cause to suggest foul play? Could it not just be a slightly stronger hollow?"

The man who just spoke had a noble and stoic expression. The stripes of red in his hair and the red scarf he wore gave him a slightly bloodthirsty aura. This was the captain of the 6th division - Koga Kuchiki.

After he made this comment, the hall went silent. It seemed that nobody else took the disappearance of souls seriously. The only ones pushing for investigation were Kirio Hikifune and the 5th division captain Shinji Hirako.

Shinji Hirako had long golden hair and a concerned expression. Attempting to rile up support to investigate the disappearance, he spoke.

"Although 1,000 missing souls won't throw off the cycle of reincarnation, it is still cause for investigation. We should at least send out a squad to ensure there are no hollows rampaging in the Rukongai."

When he said this, all the captains looked toward the man sitting at the head of the group. He had a long beard and bald head; this was the captain of the 1st division and head captain of the 13 court guard squads - Yamamoto Shigekuni Genryusai.

He paused for a second before speaking:

"Send out a squad to investigate the cause of the disappearance."

"Yes, Head Captain!"

"Assembly adjourned."

As the meeting was over, the 12 captains in attendance left through the large doors. On the other side of the doors were waiting the vice-captains of each of the divisions.

Each of the vice-captains left with their captains, including the vice-captain of the 5th division who followed behind Captain Hirako.

The vice-captain was an unassuming man with nerdy glasses and shaggy brown hair. With a slight smile on his face, he trailed his captain in silence.

However, what he could not see was his Captain Hirako giving him the side-eye as they left the squad 1 barracks.

*************************************************************************************************************

In the woods of the Rukongai, Kiruzu was training with his Zanpakuto. Slashing the surrounding branches satiated the hunger he felt from his sword.

*SWISH*

*CLASH*

Kizuru suddenly spun around and raised his sword in front of him.

A large fist came flying out of the forest, slamming into Kizuru's blade and coming to a stop with an explosive burst of sound.

Looking up, Kizuru saw a giant fist with a brown ceramic gauntlet pushing against his sword. The fist was covered in light brown fur, which protected it from the sword's edge.

'Who is this??!' Kizuru thought in his head.

"I thought I told you yesterday, this is the territory of the WOLFMAN CLAN!"

As the attacker spoke, Kizuru recognized him as the figure from yesterday. It also caused him to remember the figure's words.

"I apologize, I forgo-"

*SLAM*

*POW*

*CRASH*

The figure used his other hand to uppercut Kizuru in the stomach, lifting him off the ground before punching him once again and sending him flying into a tree behind him.

As Kizuru hit the sturdy tree behind him, the wind was knocked out of his lungs.

"I-I'm sorry!"

The large man approached the collapsed Kizuru and stopped before him.

As he was about to send a hook toward Kizuru's head and send him flying sideways, the helmed man paused.

He looked down at Kizuru's hand, which was still gripping his sword.

"Your spiritual pressure tells me you're of the Shiba Clan. Out of respect for your clan, I will leave you alive today. However, there are no third chances - STAY OUT OF THE WOLFMAN CLAN'S TERRITORY!"

The large helmed man growled out the last part of his sentence before walking back into the forest.

Kizuru's nose was bloody and his eyes were drooping, but as he was about to fall unconscious, he heard a whisper coming from beside him.

Looking over toward his side, he saw nothing - only the Zanpakuto he was holding in his hand.

When he looked at his sword, he felt a stirring in his body, like something inside him, wanted to be released.

He lifted his sword up and held it in front of him - looking deeply into its blade.

Then his arm muscles gave out, falling to his side, and Kizuru fell unconscious.
