A tall black figure entered the room, no sound of footsteps were heard. Due to the positioning of the window, the moonlight lit the path until the door, but the light didn't reach the corners. Which meant that Cloey and Peter were hidden by an almost transparent black barrier. If someone looked at their way, they can figure out two uncanny figures were there despite the darkness.
Peter looked at Cloey, thanking her in his heart for advising to choose this corner of the room earlier.
If he chose to stay at the other corner, he might have been dead by now.
Cloey on the other hand looked at the figure that approached the window with really slow steps. The moonlight helped to reveal a bit of its characteristics as he slowly moved towards the window. It's build was similar to a human, wearing a brownish grey shirt, pants that were pinkish brown in colour and a necklace of bones which made her heart skip a beat.
Perhaps, those were the bones of humans.
They looked at the figure, knowing that death was certain if the person turned to look to the side.
'If I were to die, I would want my last moment to be happily playing with a cannibal,' Peter thought as he pulled his sleeves up.
His movement didn't go unnoticed by Cloey. She was worried that he was up to no good.
Whatever thought they had in mind immediately came to a full stop when the figure started speaking.
" Look at you, shining so innocently at everyone, yet the light doesn't belong to you." he laughed dryly, his gaze lost in the moon.
The figure was a male.
"Who knew what rests in you, all they do is admire you. But I ... am willing to do anything for you my love. I bring you to life, but in return, you have to feed me. I don't think I have to tell you my ideal type of meal, do I?," he inched closer to the window.
"This pretty outfit of mine will be my sacrifice, for you to regain your life. For you to shine with your own light, at last, you won't need the light of others to be the spotlight. No more humiliation, no more frozen. Feel the fresh supply of blood, trust me, it's refreshing. Because when you come to life, mine glorifies," he flexed his back.
"This shirt is made of smoked human skin, the pant is from fried human dermis, the shoes from molten human teeth," he continued speaking.
Cloey and Peter looked at the man, who seemed to be talking to himself. The things that came out from his mouth weren't sweet at all, to homo sapien species. They just escaped his lips like it was nothing for him.
"That's not all...." he took out a handkerchief.
Since he was standing under the moonlight, he was clearly visible to Peter and Cloey.
Cloey looked at the cloth in his hand properly. It looked awfully similar to the comfortable cloth that she found earlier in the room with the lifeless body. Just that, this one was smaller in size. At that time, she was uncertain whether it was cotton, silk or polyester. The cloth felt odd but irresistibly comfy.
"Look, I made a mini handcraft for you. This is called a handkerchief. The humans use it to wipe their mouth, sweat and all kinds of other stuff. But this, I hope you won't make it dirty. It ain't easy to sew one from human hair," he straightened his fingers horizontally, the handkerchief was swaying aimlessly on his hand. It was winter but Cloey and Peter felt like it was a hot Summer day. They were bathing in sweat.
"Oh, I almost forgot. This necklace is for you too darling," he winked, but they weren't able to see that as he was facing the other way.
He said that it was made from the spinal cord of humans, with some jelly-like ornaments made from cartilage dangling on it.
Peter grabbed Cloey's wrist, it was the perfect time to escape. She stood there, petrified and unwilling to budge. The person's words were so chilling and mysterious which made her want to know what exactly he was up to. He looked like a normal human, so wouldn't they be able to take him down within a few seconds?
She revised her thought. Peter was trying to pull her to escape.
The man who was standing there looked difficult to be taken down by herself, but Peter was there.
He isn't so strong to withstand two humans' attacks right? If they could give nice consecutive blows on his head, that would be enough to take him down.
She signalled her plan to Peter by moving two fingers in front which indicated running and imitated the action of slitting throat to indicate killing.
Her friend's eyes widened.
'Did she just suggest to commit suicide?' (Peter's thought)
He hastily shook his head, denying her request. His hands were raised to his head and he acted like fainting.
Peter patted his chest and punched the wall soundly, indicating that they were strong and will survive.
'He's scared something might happen to me. That's why he denied and asked for a head start to punch the man?' (Cloey's thought)
She smiled and nodded in approval. Peter raised his eyebrows, confused of Cloey's intention.
She looked at the man who was staring intensely out the window. He started chanting something:
"To you I give, from you I take. Oh, we're both generous. Give it to me and come claim yours, oh generous one...."
His chantings made him appear as a mad man to them. Though the first few lines were clear, his words soon picked up speed and sounded like irrational mumbling. They had absolutely no idea about the man's purpose of doing that.
A wicked thought came into Cloey's mind. If she can shatter the man's mental stability, their attacks would be more powerful. The man looked like he was indeed in a troubled mental state. This increased their chance to traumatise him!
A smile made its way to her face, all her teeth were visible which scared Peter a bit. A sensation of 'mad doctor of the bad' came into her mind. She took out her phone and searched for a video.
If she were to create the scene of a kid playing here, wouldn't that be scary? After all, it was impossible for a kid to be roaming around the place alone. Strange sounds at night were always scary, no matter how many times the trick was used. There were just a variety that she can choose from, which made her more excited.
Peter was staring at her, wondering what she was planning. When he noticed the title of the video Cloey was going to click, he instantly reached for the phone but his efforts were too late. She had already clicked it and the sound of a baby laughing echoed through the entire building. It made them both jump, and the man flinched.
Cloey let out her own intensified version of cackle, to spice up the whole situation. She held Peter's shoulder and pushed him forward towards the man.
"Show me your strength....Now!!!" her voice boomed.
Peter looked at her, his eyes would have fallen out if he opened it any wider.
This was totally unexpected.
He stared at her but turned facing the man after realising it was a little too late to retreat. Cloey's intention became clear to him and she had already dipped him into hot water, which he had to get out from before the warmth disappeared.
He felt someone kick his back, which made him to stumble further infront. The distance between him and the man was barely a meter.
His hands curled into fists, he had no other option left.
The man surprisingly grinned back at them two. His hazel eyes were glowing brightly.
This made Peter hesitate, he couldn't understand the possibility of a human's iris glowing.
"You said you will kill him! What are you waiting for?" she had lost her patience. She wanted the cannibal to be knocked out as soon as possible.
Peter launched his first punch, which the man avoided swiftly. He fell to the ground on his knees when he ended up exerting too much force onto the punch that attacked the air.
"I don't need to stand under her light anymore. I've already sucked in all the energy required," with that his nails grew longer. They grew while changing into a darker tone.
Sounds of bones breaking were heard.
Peter was taken aback by what was happening in front of him. He lost his balance and fell forwards, his eyes still glued to the man.
Cloey was baffled. She couldn't think of any possible reason that was capable of rationalising the scene in front of her. How was it possible for a human to grow that fast?
The cracking of bones grew louder. They witnessed the man's shoulder broadening. His outfit was slowly tearing apart.
When Cloey scanned the man's hands, she noticed what they were.
Claws.
Not only on his fingers but his shoe too had sharp claws piercing out of them.
She immediately shifted her gaze to Peter, who layed deadly-still on the floor.
There was no time to waste. They had underestimated their opponent, and the price they had to pay were really high if they didn't make a move.
Cloey couldn't figure out who or what that man was. She darted towards Peter and beckoned him to get up. He laid unmoving on the floor, as if he was paralyzed.
The man in front of them started to grow hair all over his skin. His attire was starting to tear faster, and the sound of more bones cracking could be heard.
At this rate, Cloey grabbed Peter's legs and dragged him forcefully towards the door.
No pain, no gain.
So, it wouldn't matter if Peter got hurt as long as he remained alive.
He still laid frozen, not even yelping in pain despite the rough handling.
She got a glimpse of the man's necklace falling to the ground. The exotic bone craft burned into ashes the moment it touched the floor, a ray of orange light glimmered. It seemed as if it burned and released some kind of energy. All of this scared Cloey even more.
She furiously dragged Peter who was like a living corpse as far away from the room as possible. The sound of bones breaking were still loud, even when she was running further away with all her might.
After an exhausting run, she dropped Peter's legs and choked his neck.
Her fingers tickled his skin. Peter stared at her for a while before asking, "Have you died too?"
"Shhhh!!! We're still alive. If you punched him earlier none of this would have happened!" she scolded him for his carelessness.
"If I punched him earlier, God knows what would have taken place," he replied plainly.
When his heart felt safe in his body, he slowly regained composure and stood up.
Peter felt weird because it wasn't terribly dark like it was supposed to.
"Another room with light?" Cloey realised it too.
His heart beat increased, as if it were trying to signal something crucial again. They knew that there was only one room that wasn't pitch black due to the open window. Unless, they accidentally ran to the upper floor or went to the one below, if there was one. It was impossible because there weren't any stairs there.
"Maybe before that thing came to the place we were hiding, it opened the windows in another room?" she was trying to come up with a plausible excuse.
He kept mum, thinking about what facts he missed. Cloey was standing in front of him, closer to the light source than he was. She stared at him, out of ideas.
They both knew that right now, they had to hide before the man or whatever he was found them. If not, the consequences were deadly.
Peter looked back from the route they came from, scanning the entrance of the many doorless rooms they were surrounded by.
Suddenly, he heard a low growling sound from Cloey's side. It was then that he realised the big mistake they had done.
He looked in front, trying hard to not let his face show fear.
There was a big creature, with the head of a wolf that was standing about three metres away from Cloey.
His efforts were futile when she heard the sound of a growl, she knew the source of it very well.
"Didn't you say that this building is cylindrical?" his voice trembled.
"Well, look at you two. I guess this is her gift for me, a big meal!" the man who had lost his humanoid shape was standing near the entrance of the room they had escaped from.
His mouth was filled with canines, long ones and his voice was coarser than before. The same hazel eyes he came face to face before were glowing excitedly at them both.
Cloey shouldn't have dragged him here. They had ran in a circle, or more precisely, one ran while dragging the other in a circle.
Peter reached his hands out and grabbed what came into his grasp first, her hair.
"RUN!!!" he shouted before darting aimlessly to the other side while pulling Cloey along. She was too scared to scream, and allowed her hair to be tortured for the sake of her life.
The beast leaped but missed them by a few inches. It was more than thrilled to hunt them both down.
