Chapter 2: Episode 2

I carried Uncle George's bag into one of the guestrooms, the one he loved to sleep in whenever he came on a visit, and placed it beside the bed. Uncle George was already seated in the large living room and had switched on the TV. I walked over to him and sat beside him.

"Have you already eaten? I can make something quick for us, if you want?" he asked me.

"Mom already made rice and chicken stew. I have not eaten though because I was feeling terrible about them having to leave me all alone here. Anyway, now that you are here, I am kind of hungry." I admitted.

Uncle George just smiled. He got up and stretched out his hand towards me. "Come, let's go to the kitchen and heat it up. Then, we can eat together."

I nodded and took his hand. He led me to the kitchen and I sat on the stool when we got there. Uncle quickly put some of the food in a container, and placed it inside the microwave. He switched the microwave on, and turned around to face me.

"So, how is school? I hope you are studying well?"

"Come on, why does everyone keep asking whether I am studying well when you all know that I am always the top of my class." I said, faking an exasperated look.

Uncle George laughed. "I know you are the top of your class, big boy. But, that does not mean you should not study. You might never know when you will need someone's help in an exam?"

I rolled my eyes dramatically. And my uncle just shook his head and continued to laugh. Soon, the food had heated and my uncle took it out of the microwave. We did not bother to take the food to the dining hall since we were both very hungry. Uncle George dishes out the food in two different plates, and gives me one with a spoon beside it.

We started eating very quickly and continued talking about a lot of things.

You know, my father is a very wealthy man. He has a huge cocoa processing factory and has hundreds of workers, working for him. He makes millions of dollars every year from just exports of his products. He makes lots of money here in the country too. Apart from the factory, he has a huge land back in his village, where he plants cocoa. Let's say about 10 acres of land. He loves going there a lot. He says it brings him closer to his family.

My mother is also a businesswoman who sells lots of things. She owns a huge provision store, a baby store and a boutique. All of which earns her lots of money. And me, well I am just a junior high schooler, preparing for my final exams. I want to one day help my father run his company when I am much older. That is why I do my best to be the best in school.

I am an only child. And being an only child means, getting whatever I want. But, for me, I am always satisfied with anything my parents give me. Sometimes, I beg them not to give me anything but they never listen. But I still love them anyway.

My father has three brothers, uncle Stephen, who is the oldest, uncle Nathan, the second eldest and uncle George, the youngest. My father is the third brother of the family. I love uncle George very much, because he is the only uncle between all of my uncles who really treats me well. He is a chef and owns a small restaurant in the heart of the city. My parents and I sometimes go there to eat whenever we want to eat out.

The food he serves there is delicious. My favorite is that special Jollof rice he makes. It just takes my breath away. Uncle George is not rich like dad, but he is also doing well for himself and it makes me proud. Thinking of that Jollof rice always makes me mouth water. Oh God! How I wish I could have that right now.

So, Uncle George and I finally finished our food. We went to the living room to continue watching TV. We sat on the long cream coloured chair, with my head on his lap. Uncle George placed his hand on me and took the remote. He started flipping through the channels when he came across an action movie. He became excited and put the remote back on the glass center table in the middle of the room.

My uncle loves action movies. He has lots of action movie DVDs back in his house. Up to now, I have never known the reason why he loves them so much. I actually hate action movies. I don't like seeing all the blood and weaponry. It kind of makes me sick. But, I was willing to enjoy it just this once with my uncle.

I glanced at the wall clock, above the huge plasma TV on the wall. It was already 8pm. I turned a bit to make myself comfortable on the chair, with my head still on my uncles laps. We continued to watch the movie, till I jumped up when a man came out of nowhere, wielding a machete. He was just killing people all of a sudden. I closed my eyes and turned away. I could hear my uncle laughing at me, when I did that.

"I thought a big boy like you did not fear anything. How can you react like that to a movie?" he mocked me.

I hid my face in his chest, not wanting to watch the movie anymore. "I can't stand blood. And I hate violence," I mumbled.

My uncle stroked my back, and I could still feel him laughing because his body was shaking. I shook my head, and almost, I mean, almost, slapped him for making a fourteen year old watch this kind of movie.

"Okay, okay, the man is dead now. You can stop grabbing on to me, now." he laughed.

I turned a bit, and took a peek. When I was sure the character from the movie was truly dead, I slowly returned to my previous position. The movie finally ended. I don't know how but I suddenly started feeling sleepy. I put my hand on my mouth to stifle a yawn that was threatening to escape from my lips. I turned my body to the other side, facing the chair instead, and quickly fell asleep.
