Chapter 2: Chapter-2 | Did not expect...

The next day, Adrien woke up and stretched. Moving towards the door he turned the knob and opened it where he found a card with a big 7 on it.

Picking it up Adrien moved out and closed the door. For the card, it was the room number for the room they would be tested in which is in the center of the castle they were living in.

Adrien took twenty minutes to walk from his room to the center of the castle. Perhaps he should have said half an hour as he encountered few people on the way. This large castle was where they lived. It was a complete labyrinth if one was not familiar with it. Every year, the center of the castle was a building-less area where ten temporary rooms would be erected.

Moving about, there was room seven with eleven youths standing in front of it. Black t-shirts and shorts were worn in the castle in winter too, since it was never cold here.

In just a few minutes Adrien was standing in front of the door of room seven. When he entered the room, he could not find any spherical crystals or anything doing anything magical.

Every wall of the room was strewn with fingernail-sized runes and in the center were five crystals of different colors embedded within.

The moment Adrien reached the center of the room, the whole room flashed with lights for a moment, leaving behind two words, 'Lightning Two'.

Seeing the result, Adrien knew he had some talent for the lightning attribute but his talent grade was just two out of the maximum five.

The Bloodline Synthesizing System gave Adrien some assurance that future challenges would not be as bitter as they had been in the past.

Just when Adrien thought of leaving the room for another passage, a passage in addition to the previous one opened and a woman with a pretty face entered.

"Congratulations Sir Adrien on passing the examination. Would you please come with me?" The woman asked.

"Sure." Adrien said, looking at the hands that the woman was deliberately hiding. In contrast to her pretty face, her hands were wrinkled like washed cotton cloth.

The two of them moved out of the room as the other continued with their examination.

Following the passage, they finally reached a hall where children of similar ages to his were sitting on the ground.

After reaching the hall the woman left Adrien alone with other youths. Seeing that, he found a place to sit and wait for further instructions.

Now that Adrien knew what element he was talented at, he began to imagine the kind of lifeform he might synthesize. Maybe a lightning dragon or a lightning giant? So were his thoughts.

Not to draw any attention, Adrien did not fiddle with the system because he would have all the time he would need after this. Also, there was a possibility that Adepts were looking at them, so be cautious.

After waiting for an hour or so, an old man with a cane came walking into the hall and bowed gracefully, and said, "May I request all of you to follow me? You are all assigned to Adept Sygnis of Sygnis Tower situated in Gracs City. When you walk out of the hall you will receive a pouch, each containing ten energy crystals, one grade-0 spell ticket that you can use when you reach Sygnis Tower, and a basic meditation technique. Please, it would be gracious of you if you made a queue and followed the arrangements."

Saying his piece, the old man bowed once again and moved out of the hall. Everyone formed a line and followed the old man out.

Adrien remained standing to see if he could find Fayne but he couldn't. He never saw him entering the hall with any of the servants. Finding this, he too joined the line.

Eventually, after some time, his turn came, but there was one thing he couldn't wrap his head around. Some of the youths rejected the pouch containing the items the old man explained to them.

Soon, Adrien got his hands on his pouch. He inspected the pouch as he walked into the line, and sure enough, he found a second item. On a paper were written conditions, which were as follows.

If one wanted more energy crystals and help accumulating certain resources, they could make a contract with the family.

When Adrien used some more brain cells than usual on this issue, he figured that the family wanted them to rely on it. Without any assurances, who knows if one will choose another faction? There were simply too many such rash people. Do they think their family is so generous? If he got a chance, he would for sure love to reach the highest position available in the family.

The family would first give bait and then reel in the whole fish so the fish wouldn't feel resentful. Now even if the family did anything to them, children like them could do nothing, but who knows, some idiot protagonist with super luck may get offended. Such was the world of Adepts, scheming, while not letting one sense the overreaching hands of it. After all, the Xilos Family did become what it is today just by reproducing such a large population. But people with overwhelming luck were rare but existed nonetheless.

"Example, me..." Adrien grinned in his mind while maintaining his facial expressions.

If he made a deal with his family, he could be sure that they would definitely make use of all his value and provide resources in return. However, the conditions would still be better than if he chose any other fraction.

When the children finally left the castle, they saw a large white hemispheric dome covered in white fur covering a radius of more than five hundred meters. No one stopped and everyone entered the hemisphere one by one.

Inside, it was completely different. There were multiple wide passages towards the center of the hemisphere and in between, there were many spheres growing out of the walls of the passages.

The old man assigned a sphere to each of them and left them to their own devices when they entered the sphere. The sphere from inside was soft but there was nothing to entertain him and he couldn't get out of the sphere until they reached their destination.

If Adrien looked at the hemispheric dome from outside right now, his mouth would have opened in amazement. This hemispheric dome was a beast and when it got a signal, it jumped.

To no surprise, the dome-like beast did not come down but remained afloat. Its fur waved about in the air as if static electricity was coursing through it and floated quietly in the air slowly moving towards its destination. The first airship Adrien traveled on was a Bio-AirShip.
