Chapter 22: Your Despair Is My Joy
Sho walked through the seemingly endless hallway until he made it to a big steel door marked Room W. He pulled the sliding steel door and walked into the big empty space.
Inside the spacious room, Sho saw 11 other high school prospects inside, half of them kept to themselves and continued changing by the lockers, while the other half stared back at Sho in anticipation.
Almost all the other high school prospects looked away from Sho as he went towards the nearest empty locker. By the lockers, Sho stuffed his duffle bag into it and swiftly changed his clothes into the official Blue Lock Sportswear. After he changed to the Blue Lock clothes Sho aimlessly sat by himself and waited for the next instructions.
Suddenly the big monitor that was against the wall turned on. Every player in the room turned their attention to the monitor as Jinpachi unexpectedly appeared in front of all the other high school prospects and said
Jinpachi Ego: "Alright you unpolished gems, the people you see in the room will both be your roommates and your rivals. I personally estimated your potential based off of my own opinion. So if you look at your left shoulder you'll see a number ranging from 1 to 300. That number indicates your current rank among every other player in Blue Lock."
2 players that almost looked like identical twins grinned at each other as they both had neighboring numbers.
Jinpachi dumped more information onto the players as he talked about the top 5 players being placed into the U-20 National Football Team including, that failure here would result in being blacklisted from Japan's National Football Team.
Every player in the room had both nervous and thrilling expressions on their faces as Jinpachi said those words. But almost everyone's expressions died as Jinpachi stared at them with demonic eyes and ominously said
Jinpachi Ego: "Let's play tag."
A ball suddenly dropped from the ceiling as a chilling sound came from the monitor. It changed from Jinpachi Ego talking into a pentagon with a player named Junichi Wanima as the Oni.
Junichi's frown remained on his face as he began shooting the ball to the easiest target. Every person targeted by Junichi easily dodged his attacks. With no success Junichi's twin yelled from across the room and said
???: "Aniki pass to me, lets kill this guy"
Junichi's twin pointed towards Sho. Without hesitation Sho faced Junichi's twin as he got the ball. Sho's eyes glimpsed towards the monitor as it read 1 minute and 5 seconds remaining, and had Keisuke Wanima as the Oni.
With Sho now in front of the Oni, Sho stared at Keisuke's foot as he kicked the ball in his direction. Without hesitation Sho closed his eyes as he accepted becoming Oni. The ball harshly imprinted itself on Sho's face as a big red patch of pain started to appear.
Now with a bruised and battered face, Sho stepped on to the ball and kept it in his possession. Still with closed eyes, Sho just sat there and eerily looked up.
The Wanima brothers laughed at Sho as blood began running down his nose. Every other player kept their mouths shut as they continued gawking at what had just transpired.
Junichi: "Keisuke, don't you think you could have kicked it with a little less power? I think number 253 is about ready to shit himself."
A dark impulsivity radiated inside Ego's heart as he watched Sho stand there. Anri noticed Ego's fixation of Sho and immediately nudged Ego out of his fixation and asked
Anri: "Are you alright?"
Jinpachi pushed his square glasses up to his nose and ominously said
Jinpachi Ego: "This dark impulsivity deep in my mind only ever resonated with 3 football players in my lifetime. Just watch him Anri, my dark impulses have awoken."
With Sho's eyes still shut, he audibly heard the 2 continue to giggle to one another. With nearly 4 seconds left on the clock, Sho opened his eyes.
Spatial Awareness triggered as Sho opened his eyes, he quickly analyzed the room and locked eyes with his prey. The prey began scurrying away from Sho as he threw his left foot behind him. Without hesitation Sho kicked the ball as hard as he could.
Every player in the room could only see a sphere whizz past Junichi's face as the ball landed right into Keisuke's laughing face. Keisuke's front 4 teeth caved into one another as nearly half the ball was down his throat.
After Keisuke dropped, a clear ringing sound was heard throughout the room. The monitor screen changed from Sho being the Oni to Keisuke being the final Oni.
Keisuke tried to talk but clearly felt unfamiliar things in his mouth. He got to his knees as he spat out his 4 front teeth and some blood. He tried to talk but ended up mumbling to himself, he turned to Junichi for reassurance but didn't find him by his side.
The monitor abruptly changed to Jinpachi Ego as he said
Jinpachi Ego: "Ahh, what a great show. Shihoin Sho, that rebellious egoism is exactly what I want to see in Blue Lock. You practically got punched in the mouth and responded in kind."
Jinpachi Ego paused for a second as he watched Keisuke's pitiful state and mercilessly said
Jinpachi Ego: "This is your loss, Keisuke Wanima. Now fuck off."
Keisuke looked up at the monitor and tried to argue but simply couldn't from all the blood in his mouth. He recollected his 4 front teeth from the ground and audibly said
Keisuke Wanima: "Ki.. Kil.... h.. him ani... i.."
Junichi stood as still as a statue as Keisuke walked out of the room.
Jinpachi Ego: "Were you scared? Shocked? You need to understand that this was just a taste of Blue Lock's essence."
With a menacing grin on Ego's face he excitedly said
Jinpachi Ego: "I want all of you to shove what just happened deep into your minds. That is the feeling of victory. Fight against each other, become rivals and trample upon one another until one of you leaves everyone else behind. You guys are officially Blue Lock's Team W."
