Chapter 13: The cavalry is on its way!
While midnight began to explain, I almost burst into laughter at the exemple they showed on the screen.
The idea was to form groups with two to four members, while one was chosen as the rider the others would be the horses.
But they showed All Might with his wide smile, sitting on Present Mic and Snipe's shoulders while having Thirteen in the front.
From their expressions and posture, I would say it was plain obvious that carrying his 255 kg wasn't something easy to do.
What can I say? That shit was really funny to me.
She went on and on talking about the rules and our time limit.
I considered ignoring her explanation, not really caring about the value of the points being assigned to us, I knew they were taking into consideration our places in the last game though.
The students began to quickly guess how the game would work, to Midnight's annoyance.
But from what I remember from the canon, it wasn't something that revolutionary.
The last classified place had five points, increasing five points each place above it.
Obviously, the first place would receive...
Ten million.
...
Yeah, you heard me right.
'Really?' Shinso smirked.
'In other words, if you take down his team...' Thought Mei.
Everyone suddenly turned to look at me with greedy eyes, completely forgetting who I was and what I was really capable of doing.
I can work with that. Guess that's the burden of being the best.
"That's right, it is survival of the fittest. For those on the bottom to overthrone those at the top." She winked at me before continuing. "First years, these are the rules you'll abide by. The game itself will last fifteen minutes. Individual point values will be added together to reach your team's total. Everyone will know how much you are worth thanks to your headbands. Swipe as many headbands as you can to raise your team score. Stolen headbands will be worn from the neck up, so the more you steal the harder will be to manage them." As the R-rated heroine formulated the game, we were shown videos that were recorded to better visualize what we were supposed to face.
Seriously man, how much time did All Might spend recording this stuff? I mean, I thought he was above this kind of work.
But then again, I guess part of his appeal as the number one hero is his relatability with the public. Almost like Captain America initially was.

"Another thing!" Midnight hadn't stopped talking yet. "Even if your headband gets stolen or your team falls down. You can keep playing until times up!"
"It's anyone's game then." Remarked Momo besides me.
"It's only natural, given the large amount of contestants disputing simultaneously." Added Reiko with her elbows to the side and dangling her hands.
"Sounds complicated." Sighed Awase with arms crossed.
"But if one group lost its points at the beginning, they might have a better chance to strategize without being targeted." Said Shihai with his usual grin.
"I don't know if it's that simple, maybe it will be best to await and see how the groups will form." Tsuyu said to him, making him nod in agreement.
Midnight spoke again. "This could be rough, you can use your quirks as much as you like. But there are still rules. Make a team fall on purpose and I'll slap you with a red card." Damn right she would say that last part with an obscene gesture. "You will be disqualified!"
"Tch!" Of course Bakugou would feel disappointed with that rule.
Midnight then gave us fifteen minutes to build our teams.
So let's see, who should I pick?
Looking around, I noticed Shinso continued to play safe and didn't approach me.
Looking at Bakugou and Todoroki, they were still picked to be the riders of each different group. I believe it is thanks to their quirks working better with their hands free to move.
Going with my motivational speech of giving their best, Iida and Tokoyami joined forces with Shoto, while Inasa and Kirishima joined Bakugou.
So it has begun. It seems I have more rivals than I expected.
I don't blame them.
As a matter of fact, I thank them for saving me from the trouble of rejecting them if they asked to join me.
After all, I already had their quirks.
The girls that were close to me had the same sentiment, given how they teamed up together.
Reiko would be the rider, Momo ahead, Ochako and Yui staying behind.
Better make my move then. I thought about it a little before reaching my conclusion.
"Hey Midoriya, would you like to join me?" I said surprising him.
"Ar-are you sure Monoma? I mean, I don't really have a quirk to hel-" He began saying, showing signs of his past self insecurities. But the last months began to kick in. "Wait, it makes perfect sense. I mean, other than the mutant types, I don't think you'd have a problem with replicating everyone's quirks. Especially if you use All Might's..."
"So, you in?" I asked, smiling at his antics.
"Yes!" He replied back with confidence.
"Excellent, I want you as my front horse!" I said and received an agreeing nod from him.
Good, next...
"Hehehehe! Perfect, you still haven't formed a group yet!" Hovering above the ground came the wickedly talented and charismatic mad scientist. "Team up with me Mighty boy!" She shouted as I turned to look at her.
"Oh, hello there. You are... let me see... Mei Hatsume! From the support course, right?" Before she asked how I knew about her, I continued. "Midoriya here tells me a lot of you. It seems your future will be undoubtedly bright."
"Midoriya?... Ah yes, the fanboy! How are you doing dear? That belt of yours worked better than expected, huh! Anyways, we haven't met yet, but I would like to use you to my personal advantage!" She was straight forward with me. "If I team up with you then I will be part of the spotlight too by being part of the team that everyone will be keeping their eyes on! That means my super cute little babies will definitely be noticed by the big companies' CEOs that are surely tuning in for this sports festival! This makes our partnership the best way for my marvelous gadgets to get recruited!"
'Geez girl, breathe once in a while, will ya?' I thought while smiling at her and staring back to her exquisite eyes. "I see your point. By the way, don't mind my personal space, I love to get this close to cute girls."
"I-er... what was I saying?" She faltered after my teasing.
"You were telling me about your "babies"." I said to her while punctuating the quotations with my fingers.
"Oh... yeah, thanks!" She blushed a little before returning to her saleswoman mode. "The support course specializes in creating equipment that helps heroes deal with their quirks and enhance their skills." She showed me some of her creations stored in a large suitcase. "Hahaha! I'm sure you will find something you like amongst my arsenal."
"Hum let me see..." I looked around, noticing a jet pack among many many things.
Even Izuku joined in to help us better decide our strategy. I told them some of the quirks I was planning to use for the coming game to be more in tune with them.
Looking around for someone to join us, I heard someone approaching.
"Hey Monoma, sorry to bother, but can I join your team?" Toru asked me.
"Hagakure? Sure, I see that everyone had already formed their groups." I nodded to her. "By the way, do you have something to confess?"
"W-what do you mean? I don't know what you are talking about." She said quickly with her girlish way of speaking.
'If only I could see your face!' I laughed mentally. "I mean, do you have anything to contribute for our success?"
"Oh, you weren't talking about... never mind." She seemed to have calmed down and said something. "Yes! I think I have something great to show you." She motioned to her gloves drawing my attention to them.
Suddenly they vanished out of nowhere.
"Wow, impressive move you learned! I thought your quirk was a mutant type." I said placing the bait for her.
"It is, but recently I learned a new trick. Problem is that it only works with small objects and it doesn't last long." She revealed to me a little disappointment from what I could notice from her tone of voice, as her gloves soon returned back to normal.
"Great progress nonetheless!" I patted her in the head like a puppy. "But you see..." I turned invisible, making my entire set of clothes and shoes imperceptible to the naked eye.
"Oh! I guess then I won't..." She began saying before I interrupted her.
"Don't worry, I'm glad you trusted me enough to reveal such improvement. Welcome to the team!" I told her before turning back to normal.
Ok, the group assembled. I know I could just team up with my clones, but as I said before, the name of the game for reaching number one is to be relatable.
Obviously, I will be the rider. Being the second most athletic of the group, Midoriya was the front horse.
And the girls stood in the back.
Alright, let's do this!
TIME UP!
"Oh goodness, it's time to get this party started!" Announced Midnight while she stretched a little.
Present Mic woke Aizawa and began to start things up. The audience began to cheer again for the oncoming battle royale.
"Ready everyone?" I asked while standing on top and tying the headband around my head.
After receiving confirmation from Midoriya and the girls I said. "Then let's win this!"

"I'm confident that we four make the most stable combination possible. Tokoyami, you are our left wing, use your quirk to keep enemies at bay. Ibara, you will be our right wing, I advise you to also focus on our defense. Todoroki, you will take the rider's position, we will be relying on you for attacking and creating diversions with your ice and fire." Said a very confident Iida.
"I'm afraid that won't be possible." Todoroki said before staring at a certain number two hero standing out on the grandstands. "When I'm in battle, I never use my left side."
"I suggest you reconsider that. With Monoma being our primary target, I'm sure he will have a better time fending off your ice with a flick of his fingers." Tokoyami said seriously, annoying Shoto as a result.
"Understood! We will teach them that the lord favors his devoted children. I shall pass judgment to whoever sinner that dares to stand in our way." Ibara said in a serious tone as well.

"Alright everyone, we will be aiming for Monoma! So I want that you all give your all!" Shouted Inasa. "Kirishima, you will be our unstoppable front horse. With the rule of disqualification, Monoma can't afford to attack carelessly. So make sure that any obstacle he might put in our path won't stop us!"
"Right!" Said Kirishima, already turning into his Unbreakable form.
"Hey Bakugou, I want you to be our rider. You will aid Kirishima with blasting anything in our way." Inasa surprised him with his strategy, but Bakugou smirked nonetheless.
"And Kinoko, I think I can help you spread your mushrooms all around with my wind." He patted her in the back. "I will also help with collecting headbands. So let's shoot straight to ten million!"
"Okay! I will be depending on you then." She told him.
"Heh! I like your plan, musclehead." Remarked Bakugou with a grin, while the others nodded as well.

"So what's the plan Reiko?" Asked Momo.
"I consider that our preeminent strategy will be to fetch the other groups' headbands prior to clashing with Monoma. This way, if we lose track of the time, we won't have to desperately seek the minimum requirement of points to proceed." Reiko began explaining her line of thought. "As for our formation, I was contemplating that Uraraka and Kodai should stay behind supporting us with their quirks. And I reasoned that you could help us with some rollerblades and tactical gear for me to use depending on the situation."
"I see no problem with that logic." Momo remarked.
"I agree, let's win this game girls!" Uraraka announced confidently.
"Mn." Nodded Yui.

And so it began.
From the forty-two participants, I see some unexpected groups.
Iida, Tokoyami, Todoroki and Ibara are one. (660pts)
Gotta watch for Iida's bursts of speed, and Tokoyami's reach. Todoroki will obviously avoid using his fire, which means staying on their left side is favorable. But Ibara is a wild card in this type of competition.
I guess I should stay alert except plants growing out of the ground.
Inasa, Bakugou, Kirishima and Kinoko are another. (610pts)
Obviously Inasa's winds are too dangerous for not paying attention, better erase his quirk at the slightest chance that he might be planning to do something extreme. Kirishima is clearly overusing his Unbreakable state, and Bakugou might pull something similar to what he did against the real Neito Monoma back in the canon.
But Kinoko follows Ibara's example, I guess perhaps they also have something in mind for her.
Better stay alert.
Reiko, Ochako, Momo and Yui the third I identify. (590pts)
Powerful combination, especially with Rinoko getting so skilled with using her quirk. She will be Inasa's level of pain to deal with. Momo as the front horse is a little too predictable. And the girls behind will play the role of support from what I see.
Let's see the others.
Hum...it seems Shinso tricked Mezou, Rikido and Koda. I wonder if they all will quit in the end. (380pts)
Next, the scales guy will mount Beast from the X-men. (150pts)
Scyther will ride Pony girl... my my. (135pts)

Aoyama, Twin impact boy, tail guy joined in a team... without Shinso intervening? Plus Tsu? Weird. (330pts)

"LET'S GET THIS PARTY STARTED! ONE FINAL COUNTDOWN BEFORE THE GAME STARTS!" Present Mic said.

"Begin!" Announced Midnight.
Immediately, most of the groups began to charge in my direction.
I noticed my companions flinching a little, and even though Mei did not show, her laughter became a little more erratic.
"Not even letting us time to breathe. It's basically a single battle for our points isn't it." I sighed to my group. "But that's the curse of those on top."
"What should we do Monoma?" Asked Izuku, trying his best to hold on his brave expression.
"Here they come." Giggled Mei.
"Ha! I guess we should make things as confusing as we can for them." I raised both of my arms and multiple portals appeared in front of the other charging teams.
C'mon guys, how did you forget about that?
The chaos was guaranteed, everyone was running so fast that they were unable to avoid heading straight through my warping gates.
"Guys, close your eyes, we are going to hunt from above." I said before pressing the button that activated my jetpack while making everyone else float in zero gravity.
"Big mistake Monoma, I will blow you out of the sky!" Shouted Inasa from far away as Kirishima and Bakugou cleaned their path towards me.
'Now who made a mistake here, buddy?' I facepalmed mentally.
My eyes turned red as I stared at Inasa, erasing his quirk.
"Damn it! I'll do it myself!" Remarked Bakugou propelling him upwards with his loud blasts, trying to draw my attention from Inasa. "Don't think for a second that we will lose to you!"
Let me try this. "Take this moronic villain." I taunt him before throwing my small stun grenade at him without taking my eyes from Inasa.
Flash!
"Mother*%@$er!" Cursed Bakugou.
"Now Midoriya!" I ordered placing my right foot on his back, freeing his right arm as a result.
He stretched his right arm forward, almost catching Bakugou's headband, but we were attacked by someone's else.
"Everyone, dodge!" I ordered as Izuku offered his right hand again from me to step on.
Before we were hit by dark shadow and some vines, I flicked my fingers to the side with enough force to push my team to the opposite direction.
I turned my attention away from Inasa, knowing his team had yet to catch Bakugou before he fell into the ground.
"Tokoyami and Ibara, that's quite the range you two have!" I said out loud up in the air. "Guys, let's prepare to land." I opened another portal below us and turned off my jet pack quickly.
From our position up in the air, we immediately landed safely and in another spot of the arena, thanks to Mei's hovering boots and my warp gate.
"So what do you think of my babies? Aren't they just precious? I manufactured them myself, you know." Mei asked excitedly.
"Your babies are performing beyond my expectations, really amazing Hatsume." I complimented her.
"Thanks." She blushed a little.
"Sorry Monoma! If I had been more quick, we might've captured Kacchan's headband..." Izuku began apologizing.
"Don't worry man! Before our strategic retreat, I managed to hook something for us." I told him before hanging a headband in front of him.
"150 points?!" He said, shocked. "How did you..."
"After flicking the wind, I used a friend's quirk to pull this from the duo right there." I pointed towards a confused scale guy asking for his ride if he hadn't dropped it on the ground.
The force was strong with me after all.
"Incredible!" Toru muttered.
"How are you? Anyone getting tired?" I asked my team while tying the headband around my neck.
"Yes, it's almost like you don't weigh anything. Hard to believe with all those muscles." Replied Mei, in her not really flirty way.
"Wow! Only two minutes had passed and some headbands had already been taken! Yeah! Watch those points everyone!" Said Present Mic through the speakers.
Despite my incentive to make everyone go after one another, they still were set for my team.
"We need a breathing room, let's avoid getting trapped between all these attention." I said before erasing that guy's quirk that reminds of a titan.
Before the ground melted under our feet, I made sure to keep it sturdy.
"Get down!" Warned Toru.
I might not have a 360 field of vision, but my reflexes were sharp enough to instantly react after a warning. Not to speak that while looking at some, I can accurately predict their movements thanks to their body language.
Ducking down, I could feel the air whistling and a long tongue almost touched my headband.
"Impressive moves as usual, Monoma." Said Tsu from above her group.
"Thanks, one day I might call you for a dance." I said without thinking and summoned a mini blackhole in my fingertip, getting rid of Aoyama's annoying laser shot. "What do you say?"
The audience cheered in excitement and the cameras flashed one after the other when they saw me casually dealing with two precise attacks like they were nothing.
"What do you..." Froppy began speaking with a blush before I surprised her with a trick she picked while practicing the warp gate quirk.
I made a small portal close to me, and when I pushed my hand through it, it appeared besides Tsuyu's head.
Grabbing her headband while surprising the shit out of her, I ordered my group to turn around and leave.

Looking around, I noticed that Inasa's team got ambushed by a few others. With me being so evasive, I guess the others decided to settle for them.
For now the closest group is...
Of course.
"Hey there Iida! How's the game going for you guys? Hope the odds are going in your favor." I waved to them.
"Monoma." Stated Iida while staring at me.
"That's it everyone, we just reached half the point of our game. As the cavalry battle enters its second half, we all have a lot of questions regarding who will win and who will lose!" Present Mic narrated.
"I will be taking that now!" Stated Todoroki, dead serious to me.
"Come and get it, I'm waiting." I taunted. "Honestly, I was expecting to face you guys later. But I guess we shouldn't postpone what can be done now. Am I right?"
"Everyone, hang in there." Said Iida as he activated his engine.
Not only the second place's team was coming, but many others as well.
"Apologies, but I'm too shy." I said before activating my electric quirk and amping it with OFA.
Not enough to kill, mind you.
ZZZZZAAAAAPPPP!
"Wow, I didn't know you could also do that!" Said Izuku, safe and sound from my electrical discharge.
"Gotta keep some aces up my sleeve!" I said casually.
But looking at Iida's team, I noticed their support wasn't chosen randomly.
A double layer defense of vines and dark shadow was indeed ingenious to say the least.
But not enough.
Todoroki took advantage of my attack and froze the ground, trapping those I just shocked.
"Sorry everyone, but that's the only way." Todoroki apologized, but didn't seem to have time to capture their headbands this time.
Walls of ice began to spawn from the ground, restricting my team's movements.
"Monoma, we can't go back. We are at the limit of the arena." Toru told me.
To make things more interesting, two other groups managed to pass through Todoroki's ice.
The first being...
"Damn thief, don't be a coward and face me!" Shouted Bakugou blasting through the ice wall alongside Inasa's cutting wind and Kirishima's rampaging charge.
And the other coming from the air.
"Hey girls! Took you long enough!" I smiled at them.
"We got you now!" Said Momo.
"Hey, are you ready to use my other baby?" Mei asked me.
"Almost." I replied. "Toru, would you mind turning these invisible for me?" I requested while bowing down so that she could reach my head.
"Sure." She said before doing so.
The three groups cornering me were surprised by that move.
Good.
Now let's dance.
