Chapter 2: DANGEROUS PASSION
Joan followed the maids without fighting but it seemed like they wanted a fight. They would give her a push now and then as they made their way into the kitchen and once they arrived they turned her life into hell.
"This is what we do everyday warrior. Your life of respect is gone forever, now get to work..." She knew was she was being treated that way. After Harper, Virginia's chooses Joan. She is the strongest warrior and the most respected servant in the pack, she lives a luxurious life and every other members of the pack was jealous of her.
She would wash dishes, do laundry, scrub the floor, deliver things to different places and help in the general cooking food and other chores. For someone who had never done any kind of work before this was worse than a nightmare. On top of that, she didn't get enough sleep of food.
For several weeks she worked with a very less food. The head maids would give her more and more works every day that passed by along with insulting comments and mock words.
"Take this, wash them as well." A maid said, throwing more clothes at her. "And stop being sluggish, you still have a lot more to wash, you need to hurry up." She ordered. A few maids giggled as they watched her from a distance.
"Would you mind helping instead of giggling like a toothpaste model?" She called.
They stopped giggling and one of them came to her. "Of course!" She said then kicked dirt at the clothes that she had washed. Now, all of them laughed.
Anger sizzled inside of her but she closed her eyes and took a deep breath with tears dropping from her eyes. These went on like that every time and all of these was because the Alpha didn't want her to see her man. Whenever she saw Alpha Carl coming she would run inside and hide and people would laugh out loud in a mocking way.
{Harper's POV}
"Harper, what the heck!! What are you doing to my hair. Is this all you can make?" Virginia yelled angrily at me. She is the one who told me to style her hair but I guess she doesn't like what I have made of her hair. Okay, let's agree I am the one at fault, I told her I can make her hair and she agreed.. She doesn't like what I have made. I giggled. "Get me a better stylist, I thought you said you can make me a beautiful style but this looks too terrible. Do you want me to look horrible? "
She hasn't told me why she is preparing herself this much today. She told there's something special that is going to happen but she has not told me what the thing is. She has gotten so many jewelries for herself, she has gotten most expensive dresses and I wondered why but she has been refusing to tell me her reason. Though she already told me that Alpha Carl is coming again today, but what's so special...? He has been paying us visits for several months now so, what's special about today's visit? I just hope it's something great.
"Greetings to the great Alpha, your meal is ready, shall I bring it to your table or here in your room?"
This girl again! Damn it!
"Joan!!!" Virginia yelled and rose up from her seat. "Why must you ruin everything for me? Why did you show up now? Didn't I tell you not to bring me food?"
Joan fell on her knees and started to apologize to her. I know why Virginia is this angry with her. There was a day we offered Carl a meal cooked by Joan. After eating the food, he was like... "This meal is really delicious, who prepared it?"
Virginia didn't want to say it was Joan because she knew he would ask her to call her out for compensation, that is how he usually does. Since he has ordered all the maids to always pull off their masks whenever he arrives, if any of them do something that impresses him, he gifts them expensive things and this is the reason why everyone liked him. He is so angry when Virginia refused to tell him who it was and he left.
Joan is just like an antagonist to Virginia and Alpha Carl's love story. Ask me how... She has always been the one to cause problems and arguments between Virginia and Alpha Carl, from day one. Every time Alpha Virginia and Alpha Carl has argument, just know it's because of Joan, she had always been the cause, either directly or indirectly. The best way to stop all these is by getting rid of Joan totally, I told Virginia but she doesn't want to. Joan is a very strong pillar of the pack, she can be used to hold up, she would say and that statement infuriates me a lot.
"I am sorry Alpha, I actually didn't want to come... I
was forced by the head maid. She asked me to come enquire and that's why I am here. I won't do it again. Accept my apologies please." She explained.
"Just get out of here..." I barked at her.
"Wait!!!" She stopped her again. "When was the last time you saw Alpha Carl?"
Ohh! That is good question. The way she is even staring is infuriating me. You must be wondering why I so much hate Joan... She had always been my favorite until that day Alpha Carl came here and started to stare at her... I am weird, yes I am... I don't want anything that will affect my aunt's happiness. She looks like the most innocent girl to ever exist on earth. "Will you answer!!"
"I have only seen him twice since I have been put in the kitchen..."
"How's that? Why did you let him see you?"
"I sincerely apologize great Alpha, he hasn't seen me since then, I am the one who saw him."
"Better... there will be a small celebration in the house today, I don't want you to show up at all.. Okay? If Carl sees you today, you will be gone forever... I want you to hide somewhere, where no one will see you at all, is that clear?" All this is not going to help, Virginia is not just going to understand it. I looked on.
"Yes, great Alpha." She responded.
"This is what I want you to do... I want you to prepare the best dishes ever for my love... He is coming specially today and I want him to eat the best... I want him to taste the delicious recipe of the Redflame... I want him to see the difference between the Redflame pack and the Moonstone pack, do you understand?"
Joan nodded and left the room.
"Darn it!! For how long will you do this Virginia? That girl is lean, she looks really sick... If Alpha Carl sees her like that, it can be the end of your relationship.. Why don't you just let's get rid of her, I can do that."
"No! You can't do that... Chill, okay? Nothing of sort is going to happen." That's what she will always say.
"Any ways, can you tell me... What is all these preparation for? Those decorations you are making, those foods and those jeweleries you bought, what are they for? What exactly is special today?"
Virginia smiled and stood up. She twirled forward and backward to me. She pulled my cheek and screamed excitedly. I am just so curious, I don't know why she is doing this to me..
"Today is going to be the happiest day of my life, I have been waiting for this for the past five months..." She laughed and spinned, taking my hands.
"Tell me in details please., what is going to happen today?"
"Carl is coming today and do you know what? He told me there's something special he wants to tell me... And do you know what I am suspecting?"
"What is it? Will you just talk straight? You are making me feel like – just talk."
"I think he is planning to propose to me... I have been waiting for this moment and I can't wait for him to arrive, I just want everything to happen very quickly."
"That's a very good news aunt, but how are you this sure? You have made so many preparations for this, did he tell you this?"
"I am hundred percent sure of that... I trust my instincts.. He told me he has something special for me, think about it Harper, what else can be as special as a proposal... Moreover, I have a plan B... If he is not going to propose to me today, I will propose to him.. I will tell him to marry me. He is definitely not going to reject, be is not married... So he won't mind making me his Luna... I am ready to step down as his Luna." She laughed and pulled me into her embrace again. It is very apparent that she is happy, she is so much in love with this guy. Truly, Alpha Carl should have proposed to her, I am sure he also likes her a lot, the way they both chat, embrace each other and do everything... It is just clear. If Alpha Carl is going to propose to her today, I will be the happiest lady on earth but at the same time I am scared, what if he rejects the proposal? No no, that cannot happen, he should be the one to propose to my aunt and if that happens, the whole werewolves in the town will know about it. They will know the relationship between the two packs and they will know the benefits of love.
"I don't have time Harper... Get someone to prepare me, I don't want to delay Carl today. Please, check if the decorations are perfect and also, try checking what is being prepared in the kitchen... I want everything to be perfect, there should be no flaw, today is my day and I don't want anything to ruin it."
The whole day has me preparing for Carl's welcome, and Virginia's dressing. I also want to make everything perfect, Virginia's happiness is my happiness and her problems are also mine. If Carl finds any flaw today, I will be responsible for it. I make sure the chef's cooked at least ten types of dishes so Carl can choose his favorite. I also got a dress for Carl, the dress of the Redflame just for him to wear once everything work out so he can look like a Redflame.
Everything is set now and I know that if Virginia sees this, she is going to love it. I imprinted her name and Carl's on every balloons and flowers. The meals are separate from the drinks... Everything is just as perfect as I know Virginia will want it.
. When I went back to the room, I saw Virginia studying herself in the mirror. She is beautifully dressed... The maids spent hours preparing her, making her look more beautiful than she is. She is wearing a red and white dotted dress. The make up is also very perfect and the jewelries are also looking too good around her neck and arm.
"You are just too beautiful Virginia... I love this."
"Thank you so much sis... As he arrived?"
"No, but he must be on his way now." I told her.
"Let me go check the decorations you guys made before he arrives, I told you I don't want any flaw." She held my hand and we both appeared in the room.
"Wow!! This is too beautiful... I love it."
Now, all we waited for is Alpha Carl. It's almost three PM and he hasn't arrived. He doesn't come this late, as in he never came this late, we should have heard the sound of his horse in our yard by now. Virginia sat down on her chair, I can see the impatience but she isn't showing it. We waited, waited and waited until dusk but Alpha Carl didn't show up at all. He only sent a message, saying that he is busy with the members of his pack and he will not be able to come, he promises to come tomorrow. This angered Virginia alot but she didn't show it. Tomorrow is another day, if he is not going to propose to aunt, aunt is going to propose to him.
