Chapter 6: Chapter 6
Jungkook stared at her as she walked away until she disappeared into the hall. He thought of saying something but eventually he ended up not doing so.
It was in the evening the event began. It was an awesome time that everyone had. After all, Sandra was the Chief Supervisor. All the time, she stayed away as far from him as possible, taking a glance or two now and then. And every time Jungkook looked at her, she was either fixing her dress and talking to people or drinking. He was quite upset; not for the fact that he was right there and she was not even taking a proper look at him but because she had started drinking again.
The show was almost near the end before the dinner when their Principal and Founder Mr. Henstler requested Jungkook for a song.
'Jungkook, on behalf of everyone in this room, I am calling you. Come on boy, I know you still got that shine in you', he smiled at where Jungkook was sitting.
Back then , not a single fest of their university was celebrated without a song out of his angelic voice. That boy who used to get on the stage anytime now hesitated. Sandra inhaled heavily and looked at him.
Jungkook slowly got up and was still not quite wanting to do it without those cheers from Sandra like the old days. But then he remembered something. He smiled lightly and took a look at Sandra.
He seemed to gain confidence and picked up his pace up the stage. Sandra, who was sitting round their table with the others, thought of getting up for once. But she stopped when he started singing. That voice; that tone and most importantly those lyrics. She remembered the time when he had written that song for her and would only sing it to her every time they went to the lakeside near the park.
The others knew it right away as well. They only knew that there was a song he wrote for her but never heard it. But now they looked at Sandra, sitting with them quietly.The words told it all. He was singing for her. Libetha looked at with sad eyes and whispered, 'Dra..' A tear drop escaped her right eye once again without her permission like last night and before several others could follow, she got up and went out of there. Jungkook saw from the stage and stood up from the stool he was given to sit on. But he had to complete the song no matter what; after all it was a promise he would never leave it unfinished in the middle.
Sandra did not want him to see her cry. She thought iof going out to the beach at first. But then she went to the bar instead and sat there, expressionless. After about half an hour, Libetha came and sat beside her,
'Hey umm.. you weren't there at the dinner. So.. I brought you some', she kept the plate in her hand on the counter. It was Sunday but the bartender was on leave probably. There was no other person roaming around and it was quite silent. Sandra started liking silence since the day she heard the scream of the girl. Then, suddenly Jimin, Jane and Kai joined in one by one. She looked at them and tried to smile but failed naturally. She kept her eyes glued to the lasagna Libetha had brought her. She had lost her appetite.
'Hey guys', Jungkook suddenly came along and said in a guilty tone.
'Oh now you remember us, huh?' Jane said making him feel even guiltier.
Sandra did not even bother to look at him.
Jimin sprang up from his seat and hugged him tight. He had missed him bad.
Jungkook hugged him back, 'You know how I felt when you just walked past me yesterday. I thought at least you remembered me unlike others', they knew what he meant by 'Others'.
'I just couldn't come up with any words... I I just couldn't . After all these years. I am sorry man..', Jimin replied. Libetha and Jane joined in the hug as well while Kai simply patted their heads and backs.
Sandar was still there with her back turned on him. They let go of the hug after some seconds and smiled at each other. They sat but Jungkook did not. He stood beside her. She did take a look at him but did not talk.
They were talking about random things that had happened when Kai suddenly caught Jungkook staring at him. He smiled at Jungkook who smilked back at him. Little did he know what he had ahead of him.
Jungkook looked away and took his phone out of his pocket, 'Everyone, I have something to show you', he said while looking at Kai again. He opened a video and played it . In the video, a girl weeped and talked in a cracked and scared voice.
'It was him. He suddenly reached out to me that night and when i refused..', the girl could not finish and started crying heavily.
It seemed she was in a hospital bed. Sandra now furrowed her eyebrows for a split second and looked up at his phone's screen. The girl started talking again, 'I don't remember what he was wearing but he was with his friends. They had boarded that afternoon. His friendss..um.. called him..ken.. no kai. But the man he called that time to..,' she stopped for some seconds and inhaled, 'that man wasn't among them. That man...umm.. was older than him probably and he had come only that night ..', she cried again.
They knew who the girl was. They knew what she was talking about; they understood what she was talking about. They got what Jungkook was trying to prove.
They looked who just laughed as if it was all a joke, 'Ah .. seriously guys.. Jungkook what rubbish. I see you still have that wonderful editing skill of yours huh', he laughed again nervously, 'guys.. I think I will just go get a drink', he said while getting up quickly.
Jungkook stopped him, 'You are going nowhere.'
