Chapter 46: Saving Jen
[3rd Person POV]
In a dark underground room, about 20 men were gathered. All of them were armed with AR-15 rifles. In the centre of the room was a woman in her 20's tied to a chair. It was Jen, who was being kept hostage in exchange for the money.
"Why do we need so many men for a single target anyways?" asked one of the men.
Another man, seemingly the leader of this group responds "It's because of how high profile the actual target is. There is sure to be resistance once we enact our plan."
The goon responded by asking another question "What is the actual plan anyways? You're always so hush-hush about it. And who's gonna stop us?"
The man thinks for a bit, before responding "We need to be careful. Ever since Superman disappeared,Batman has been roaming Metropolis. As for the plan, listen up. I'm only gonna say this once. This one is just bait. The real target is the celebrity. Once he gets here with the money, we're going to end her and capture him. We deliver that guy to our client and use the ransom he brings as our payment. Once we divide up the money, all of you get to walk away with $400,000 each. "
This excites all of the men and one of them shouts "Hell yeah! But wouldn't just killing her be kind of a waste? I mean, we gotta celebrate the job's completion somehow."
After saying this, he looks at the woman with a conniving look on his face. Some of the men just sigh, while the others also get excited, seemingly agreeing with the idea.
But all of a sudden, the man who had brought up this idea collapsed, as his head rolled on the floor.
This made all of the other men raise their guards as they prepared to face whatever had done this to one of their crew. One of the men moved closer to the corpse of his crewmate, aiming to inspect his state.
At that exact moment, a gigantic monster appeared from a portal next to him, grabbing him. The others in the room proceeded to fire at the monster, but the bullets simply bounced off it.
The monster was a larger creature with a large muscular upper body, long arms, and a tail-like shadow that served as its lower body. Its head was a shell that looked similar to a brain. Extending from its head were several tendrils, and it had long untrimmed fingernails as well as a mouth full of thin sharp teeth.
The monster picked the man up and tore him into two pieces with its bare hands before disappearing. As all the other goons in the room looked on, the creature disappeared into the shadows. This incident left the men terrified
One of the men exclaimed "What the fuck was that?!"
Another one soon pointed at an empty chair and questioned "Hey! Where the fuck did she go!?"
The woman they had been holding hostage had disappeared, leaving only an empty chair behind. The men were baffled, not knowing how to react. The hostage had been tied up extremely well and there was no way that a normal human could escape those bonds.
Soon the limbs on one of the men twisted into a crumpled mess before his head burst like a water balloon. It didn't stop with him, as one by one all of the men present in the room met a similar fate.
This continued until only their leader was left behind. He looked around the room, when suddenly, his arms and legs were cut off as a man appeared in front of him. He was dressed in an all black hoodie and had a black cloth covering his eyes.
"Hey there, buddy! How about you answer a few questions for me?"

[Arnold POV]
10 mins later.
Having gotten the answers I needed, I cut off the leader's head. Apparently Jen was just bait to capture me. These guys were paid to deliver me to a location just in the suburbs of Metropolis.
'But who is their client?' I wondered. I mean, there are a LOT of psychopaths in the DC universe but I don't remember offending any of them. Well I did cut off Darkseid's arm but I don't see how that would lead to my secretary getting kidnapped.
In any case, the only way I was getting to the bottom of this mess was by asking the person who had sent these people after me directly. I had gotten the address of the location these people were supposed to take me from their leader, so I guess it would make most sense to just head there directly to look for the culprit.
"Rika" I called out to my companion. Soon a white figure appeared behind me. I gently pat her on the head and she holds me in her arms. That's right, I had gotten Rika from a lottery pull a couple of months ago. After a rather strenuous learning curve, we had come to like each other. She was already the closest to me after my brothers. If you're wondering whether she had the memories of the original Rika, that would be a no. She did seem to like me very much though.
Soon she asked me in her twisted voice "What is it, Arnold?"
I replied "I just wanted to thank you for a job well done. Also, where did you keep Jen?"
She answered my question "I left the Woman a mile out from here, she should reach a nearby police station soon. Exactly as you asked."
I said "Good. I'll go investigate this little incident and then I'll go calm her down."
