Chapter 2: My holiday at the shop (ii)
Chapter 2
Others say what doesn't kill you makes you strong but its all a lie. It's just a phrase.
I went to the back and cried my heart out and came back to my position. I feel unloved at times but I have to cope.
She left the place afterwards leaving me alone to stand on my feet and sell. This time I was very quite and going about everything myself. Food is something mum will never withhold from you . I went to tell her I'm hungry and she asked me to serve myself. After eating, I became more than the mistress of the restaurant. I served customers this choice of food, and cleaned up the place . Soon after, uncle clement came to join me at the shop to offer me some help. As I was there, I was thinking of how I'm going to do my homework on time. That would be around 11:00pm . Things were very difficult for me since I'm a student who have to revise my notes and prepare for the next day's lessons.
Soon after , around 10:30pm , mum asked us to pack the things for we've closed.
We packed everything ,washed the dishes and arranged everything.
Daddy Emma came to pick us to the house. The distance from the shop to the house is about 30 minutes drive.
Dad Emma asked "hey Debbie how was your day ?
Fine dad, I just couldn't tell him it was hectic because mum will say I'm lazy and she will call my dad to complain to him. 😔Hmmm that one too will be another problem for me ,he will never listen to my other side of the story ,he always take what Rhyda says as final.
I smiled to him and ignored. After some few minutes, we got home . Immediately, I set forth to do my assignment.
My day has been hectic while my cousin's own was very joyous. They spent the whole day playing games and watching movies and cartoons. But guess what, they left the house uncleaned. I wonder what they were waiting for. Of course it's me Debbie the one who doesn't have blood in her body and and never gets tired of working.
I never touched anything again for I had a lot to do for myself.
I finished everything up around 12:00 midnight and I tried to catch a sleep. Sleep wasn't easy to catch by me for I was tired therefore could not sleep.
I thought to myself, why on Earth will a parent allow her daughter to be adopted by another family when she's alive. Of course it's because of this same poverty which has become an albatross around the neck of the family.
It's not that I don't have a biological family for myself, there's but no one to help.
I miss my mum. She alone knows my pains and my sorrows but I have to be away ,to strive and fight for the best and success for the family since I'm the first born and have a huge responsibility.
Life with my foster parents was never easy for me at all.
