Chapter 3: The birth of a Empire

Waking up in the early hours in the morning, the sun has risen, and the moon is hidden behind the clouds, Daniel strode out of his tent to see the people packing up preparing to move out. Almost immediately Daniel's personal fanatic approached, "Sir Daniel, we are moving out!" The amber eyed Quin exclaimed. Daniel responded, with sleep evident in his tone "yes I am aware. How much further and anything I should be made aware of?"

"Not long now, about 2 hours before we should arrive. It will likely be few hours before the sun passes directly ahead, plans have already been laid out to start building a keep and garrison atop the hill while small houses and a makeshift pier be made at the river. When we have set up and more resources are acquired the pier will be expanded until we become a bustling harbour."

"Alright, let us move out now then, construction will not start itself!" The whole camp was now alive, everyone packing away and preparing the carts. Once again, they set off downstream. While waiting Daniel got bored and decided to check his status menu:

Having 5 stat points and a level presumably from killing the wolf last night. 'Hmmm, 5 points what should I spend them on? Sure, I would like to be able to split enemies with my bare hands but the power that angel had was so immense, magic is the way to go. After all I can have my soldiers to do the physical work.' [Are you sure you wish to upgrade Dexterity, wisdom, and luck by 1 point and intelligence by 2?] Yes. Once again, a mysterious power filled Daniel's every pore, relaxing him, and giving him a sense of accomplishment. However, Daniel had a question which add to be asked and only knew one person who would know the answer, calling him over Daniel enquired "Hey Quin, what is a core in a monster? What does it do and what is it for?"

"A core you say. Well think of it like a monster's heart and source of power at the same time while they can live without it a monster with a core will be many times stronger than one without, most monsters upgrade their cores by absorbing the cores of monsters they defeat; in fact we have 4 cores on us from the wolf attack. Here, have a look at this one, it was a 2% filled blue core from the wolf leader, a whole grade above the clear cores!" Every word Quin said showed just how passionate he was about this topic. Taking the core in his hand Daniel was immediately prompted [Compatible core: Would you like to reinforce your core?] No. Daniel, although he did not know for sure, felt that risking absorbing the core now is too dangerous as it may attract attention, deciding to absorb it later his own. After checking with Quin, he knew that he could keep the core and do with it as he pleased.

People often debate about the Gods origins. The tale told to our children follow a similar pattern. The tale I was told went like this; The first day the Gods were born from common birth. The second day the Gods invented new skills and magic changing the way people perceived the world. The third day the Gods stopped a war threatening billions of lives. The fourth day the Gods transcended mortal bounds and shaped new worlds. The fifth day the Gods created new species and gave gifts to the existing species. The sixth day the world bathed in centuries of light. Finally, the seventh day regardless of where you get the story from the seventh day is the only day never debated, never told differently and never changed. On the seventh day the Gods fought and, in an effort, to keep balance and peace one of the Gods was casted out creating the two Gods of light and the God of the dark. Most philosophers argue over each day, but none debate the seventh day. Why? Who said the seventh day was right and the others were changed? Who said the seventh day went as we are told?

"Move the logs over there! Quickly now, do not stall!" The group had arrived at the location to start building, it was bustling with life as people moved from place to place intricately moving between obstructions. "Daniel the keep will be ready in a few hours, even though this land would not be any more than a Baron title the Lusian Dynasty has given us a Count sized keep. The keep is currently compressed into a small ball with space magic, but we are working on un-compressing it allowing the whole keep to take up the hill while the houses and piers are built down here." Quin, holding a clipboard, informed Daniel of the plans they had for construction. "Will there be a tomb?"

"A tomb? What for?"

"I want to continue my family legacies for future generations, just work on a tomb once the place is up and running. I am going to go train in the forest; I do not want to be disturbed unless it is urgent!"

"Understood Daniel. I will draw up plans for a tomb which we can expand in the future and lay it with the most advanced traps. Enjoy your walk in the forest, it is just a little bit south." Although Daniel was enjoying the chance to build up a kingdom from scratch, something the games he played did not offer was the perspective of being the ruler rather than having control over the whole country was new for Daniel. In this game he would need strength as well not only a strong military and a stable economy but Daniel himself would have to be strong and make things happen himself. For obvious reasons, the NPCs had no clue they were in a game, so Daniel had to make sure that they didn't know he was the same person when he died and took control of his heir. Almost as if the system wanted to protect Daniel from the moment he was awake the shapeshifting skill has been in effect, in fact it has perplexed Daniel how this whole time while he has been speaking to these people he was not in his actual in-game body but a human version. Daniel's thoughts took up a lot of time and before he knew it, he was in the forest near a small stream. Looking at the water his human body had clear emerald eyes, light freckles across his cheeks and a low ridged nose. His eyes were deep but full of life and his lips were full and crimson red. With a mere thought his appearance began to drastically change. His eyes turned golden and his lips lost their colour. His skin became hard and rough and was no longer the fair gentle skin but hard skin in a deep shade of grey. Two small horns, no bigger than his thumb, grew atop his head with a pitch-black tip. This was his demon form. Taking the core from his pocket Daniel decided to use it here: [Compatible core: Would you like to reinforce your core?] Yes. Wasting no time Daniel agreed to the system and the blue core gradually lost its colour as wisps of gas swirled out from it and centred around Daniel, each and every part of his body was like a breathing organism inhaling the blue gas and absorbing it. [Possible to upgrade core. Would you like to proceed?] Yes. Once again Daniel gave the command and when he did his status was displayed in front of him:

Name: Daniel Hatchid

Race: Lesser Demon

Titles: The Human Monster- only monster player who can reincarnate and retain monster evolution and powers (Also unlocks the Human Shapeshifting skill)

Level: 2/5

Core: CLEAR-60%

Intelligence: 22

Dexterity: 21

Wisdom: 21

Luck: 21

Stat Points: 0

-Evasion- Lvl1(Increased chance of evading attacks)

Although it was only the second day in the game Daniel stats were coming along nicely. Hoping to gain another level as Daniel really wanted to find out what happens when he reaches level 5, he began searching the forest for monsters. He was shortly spotted by 3 monsters. A small group of slugs. Slugs. Slimy. Slippery. Horrible slugs. Out of all monsters Daniel could have found it was slugs, at least the battle should be easy he hoped. Although they were slugs, they were easily the size of a coffee table or heater. Still smaller than Daniel but much too large for a slug. Taking his sword Daniel prepared to thrust it towards one of the slugs. Exploding out with the sword he thrusted it towards one of the slugs instantly puncturing the slugs head, resulting in death. [Xp Acquired] [Sword Affinity reached Lvl 2]. As the notifications rang in his ear Daniel brought his sword back ready to attack a second slug. A slug launched itself at Daniel. He quickly rolled out of the way. Standing up he once again thrusted his sword against the slug. Seeing the other slug in the corner of his eye Daniel sliced downwards with his sword, only cutting the slug a bit. Thrusting is definitely better than slicing to fight these unarmoured slugs. Once again exploding outwards he wedged his sword between the eyes of the second slug. The notification of gaining experience chimed in his ear again, still no level up. Feeling annoyed Daniel swiftly thrusted his sword towards the final slug. Killing it. Blood dripped all around the battle, yet Daniel's grey frame stood untainted. What kind of slugs try fighting a demon! I didn't even have the shapeshifting skill on. They were some smug slugs. Feeling rather refreshed Daniel activated his shapeshifting skill, turning back into a human and began to head out of the forest. Since a few hours had passed, Daniel was hoping that the keep would be completed; he needed a rest.

CREATORS' THOUGHTS

A fatal flaw in this, when I write I have been using bold and itallics for certain things, e.g. bold for the characters thoughts but I cannot seem to make any writing bold on here so if there is a sudden change in tense then its likely meant to be bold to denote the characters thoughts or itallics to denote the system or lore notes.
