Chapter 12: Chapter 12: Duke's Money-Making Plan

Duke had faith in Z's assassination prowess, but to create the world's top killer group, he needed more than just Z and Celestial Dragon's abilities. Killing Daz Bonez outright would be a waste unless he refused to join.

"Creating the most powerful killer group in the world? What an audacious goal," Daz Bonez remarked, glancing at Duke, Ahri, and Celestial Dragons. After a moment of silence, he added in a low voice, "But if you can't achieve that, you might as well end me here. I'll be watching."

With those words, Daz Bonez's eyes darkened, and he let go of his attempt to control his injuries, collapsing to the ground. Daz Bonez had never intended to remain in West Blue; he harbored dreams of fame and heroism.

The next day, after wrapping his wounds, Daz Bonez's condition significantly improved. "The resilience of those strong pirates is truly astounding," he noted, examining his equipment. "Not bad at all."

Duke, having just completed a thousand push-ups, observed Daz Bonez's swift recovery and pondered his next move. "What should I do next?" he wondered aloud.

Daz Bonez couldn't contain his curiosity and asked Duke in a hushed tone about the prospect of creating the most powerful killer group in the world. Was it merely talk, or did Duke have a concrete plan and ambition?

"What's next?" Daz Bonez inquired, eager to know Duke's intentions.

"First and foremost, I seek revenge against those fools," Duke replied, his voice tinged with determination. "Do you enjoy assassination? Then let's use the heads of the godfathers from the five major families to mark the birth of Shadow Stream. This will be our first step in shocking the world."

Duke's thirst for vengeance was unrelenting. While Daz Bonez hadn't explicitly confirmed being hired by the five major families, Duke didn't need confirmation. In his mind, the godfathers were as good as dead.

Moreover, Duke was intrigued by the wealth accumulated by these ancient mafia families in West Blue. With Z and Daz Bonez on board, they set their plans into motion.

Following the annexation of surrounding mafia groups, the Vinsmoke Family expanded its influence significantly. Rather than continuing aggressive expansion, they opened peculiar lottery shops in their controlled towns.

These shops, called lottery shops by Valoran's disciples, marked a departure from traditional mafia businesses like pubs, red-light districts, and gambling. Duke aimed for something far more lucrative.

"What's the most profitable venture in the world?" he mused, contemplating their next move.

Duke's eyes were set on monopolizing the most profitable ventures, with the first being credit backed by national credibility—a direct route to printing money. However, lacking national trust, this option was out of reach for now.

The second avenue was monopolizing industries. Duke's ambition extended beyond a single sector; he envisioned monopolizing the entire pirate world. Yet, to achieve such a feat, he needed strength and a strategic approach.

His immediate plan involved introducing a novel industry—the lottery. By providing hope to the impoverished in West Blue, Duke aimed to create demand and pave the way for broader monopolies. Unlike monopolizing existing industries, launching a new venture promised faster progress and fewer conflicts.

The concept was simple—a live phone bug, printers for digital cards, and a series of security measures for lottery tickets. The Vinsmoke Family's resources ensured minimal costs for operations. A single ticket priced at a hundred berry's could yield a staggering ten million berry's prize, attracting widespread participation.

With live broadcasted results and the Vinsmoke Family's reputation guaranteeing winnings and safety, the lottery business was poised for success. It was a strategic move to meet people's desires and create new demands, setting the stage for Duke's grand monopolization plans.

The introduction of the Vinsmoke Family's lottery scheme sparked immense passion and desire for wealth among the impoverished in the pirate world. The prospect of winning millions with just a hundred berries made the idea irresistible, overshadowing the allure of piracy for many.

For most, becoming a pirate wasn't about dreams or ambitions; it was a desperate choice born out of necessity. The lottery's profitability, offering prizes hundreds of thousands of times the initial investment, made even capitalists rethink their investments.

When the Vinsmoke Family's lottery shop distributed a 10 million berry prize to a lucky commoner after its first broadcast, its popularity soared. Whether Duke handpicked the winner or not was unclear, but he maintained integrity in the lottery business, relying on human greed to generate wealth exponentially.

As the Vinsmoke Family's influence expanded, so did its riches, surpassing the gains from traditional mafia industries. Duke's distaste for traditional practices fueled his innovative approach to wealth accumulation.

However, as Duke's plans flourished, Diamante of the Donquixote Family arrived in West Blue, seeking retribution against the Vinsmoke Family. Determined to protect their dignity, Diamante's arrival threatened to disrupt Duke's burgeoning empire.
