Chapter 6: Unfiltered Emotions

Cian could feel the rage flowing off of him in waves. He knew that power like this could affect the mind and fuel certain other powers as well. Cian knew he had pyrokinetic powers and he knew that the two are a lethal combination. Fire powers respond well to intense emotions. "This one is dangerous." Said Cian to himself.

"You have been a pain in my ass and now I plan on showing you that I rule this school." Said Jace.

"I didn't want to show my true power but in our culture, it would be rude not to identify myself as kinfolk. So take pride that I did not take it easy on you." Said Cian.

Cian's form shifted into his hybrid form. His hybrid form was majestic to see in its full glory. His muscles bulged. His fur was dark black and his mane was thick and his eyes are gold in color. Jace growled and focused more on his rage. Weaker minds would have buckled under this assault. Flames began to spiral around him. Cian could feel the heat and had to chill the air around him to breathe.

"I am going to roast you alive." Screamed Jace.

Cian could feel the magic gathering and he prepared for his counter. Jace unleashes a wave of flame orange in color. Cian counters with a wall of ice shaped like a triangle to deflect the blast away from his body. The heat from Jace's flames still singed the ends of Cians fur. Cian had expected a major attack but Jace's rage allowed it to be a continuous assault. Cian couldn't gather enough ice element to outclass this attack. The ice wall began to crack and Cian knew he needed to act quickly. Jace expected Cian to counter with his ice so he planned to leave him no room to attack. Cian gathered his power. The heat was making concentration difficult but Cian leaned in on his training with his father to guide him. The ice was starting to falter and Cian received a burn on his right leg. Cian knew he didn't have long. The Class outside watched as this torrent of flame hammered Cian wall. The intensity of the flames made it difficult to see anything other than the flame and shadows. Koray ran up to Bates.

"You have to stop this! Even inside the Seal, this could kill him." She pleaded.

Bates looked into the ring with amusement. "I can't. If we brought the Seal down now he would injure the class and cause millions in damage to the building. I don't know what to do."

Cian gathers his power then focuses the element of Thunder into his voice and roared. The thunderous sound filled the building. The Seal prevented anyone outside the ring from being hurt but the entire class still lost their hearing for a few seconds and the ringing took another minute to stop as well. The thunderous roar was deafening outside and combined with the unending fire the Seal maintained by four experienced casters was cracked. Outside the Seal, everyone could see nothing but steam. Cian then cooled the air and signaled the shamans that the fight was over. When the Seal came down Jace was face-up on the floor healing. The wave of hot air flowed outward even though Cian cooled it. Cian was burned in several spots but still on his feet. Abagail ran over to Jace. She reached out and touch him and he groaned in pain.

"Give me a sec." Said Jace. "The bastard shattered most of my bones with that blast."

Cian walked over to Jace. "I underestimated you and you almost got me rotisserie style."

Jace looked at Cian "You are a werelion mage with three subcategories of magic." Jace laughed.

"You are just breaking all the rules."

Several of the other students in the class started cheering others were questioning if Cian cheated.

"Calm down." Said Bates. "A lot of you question if Cian cheated and I can tell you he didn't. He is a werelion and a mage. If you guy looks up his dad you will find he is the head of the USMA and the only Penta Mage known to mankind. Cian is a Tri Element spellcaster. He is the first known to have three subcategories of magic."

The class looks at Bates as if he told them that up was down. There are a few known rules for magic. If a magic caster has a subcategory of magic that will be the only one he has. The rest will be one of the six base elements. Innate casting can sometimes allow two subcategories, but one of the two will be limited in strength. Never in the history of magic has there been someone with three subcategories of magic. Koray smiled at Cian. She was worried he would leave the fight hurt or lose in a way to discourage him but there he was standing proud. Cian looked over to his discarded shirt. He took it off before shifting to prevent it from being ripped but now it was ashes on the ground.

"Hey teach. I am going to head into the locker room and get my spare clothes on." Said Cian.

Bates took a moment to think. "I think that class is over for now. All of you. This class is meant to help train you for your future not to permanently hurt each other. I want all of you to write an essay on how the Seals work and the importance of restraint. 20 pages minimum." The class groaned but soon cleared out of the practice hall. Koray waited near the male locker rooms. Cian took his time but he noticed her waiting for him.

"So you don't like bullies." Koray couldn't help but smile.

Cian sighed "Mei is a friend. The Seal protects against most damage but not with memories of being helpless. That asshole would have shaken her with the memories of being powerless." Cian had a flash of how that feels. To have someone there that could make you feel helpless even though you are strong. Koray saw the darkness that was on Cian's face.

"How about I take you out for an early dinner?"

Cian was caught off guard by the offer.

"I am busy...." Cian started to say

"Doing what? Brooding at your place? Avoiding the world?" with a wave of her hand she dismissed the comment. "A pretty girl is asking you out. Why say no?"

Cian stood there shocked. When was the last time he went out with someone whether it be friends or family? When was the last time he let down his guard? When was the last time he had fun?

"Okay but only if it isn't just the two of us." Cian's voice cracked at the end of that sentence.

An hour later Simone, Koray, and Cian were at a karaoke arcade. They were common in Japan for a bit and now have spread to the U.S. and become a hit. Booths of different sizes are soundproof where people can sing and talk without worrying if others can hear them. The three ordered food and Simone started flipping through the selection of music. This particular arcade boasted a selection of music going back over 100 years. The selection was broken up by genre and decade. Simone loved music and wanted to be a professional. She selected a song from a woman that was known as the princess of R&B in the 1990s. Simone's voice was amazing and Cian loved the song. When another by the same artist popped up next Cian was up on his feet showing off some impressive moves. It wasn't long until all three were up and dancing. After Simone, Koray was up and she sang a few songs from various female artists popular from 2010-30 such as Veela, Arianna Grande, and Ellie Goulding. In recent years music from the past has become popular. With the popularity of older styles of music, modern artists were trying to blend the older style of music with the modern.

"Come on Cian it is your turn." Said Simmone.

Cian began to back up and sit down. "I am sure you don't want to hear me sing."

Koray walked over with the mic and shoved it into his hands "You got no choice. We sing. You sing."

Cian walked over to the selector and began to search. He was looking for something that would be upbeat and not bring the mood down.

Cian started with B2K classic Bump, Bump, Bump and goes full-on hip hop dancer, then changed to Usher's You Remind Me, and his third song was Justin Timberlake's My Love. Simone notice that Cian didn't have to watch the monitors for the lyrics. He moved with a grace that showed he had an interest in dance. Simone jumped up and full-on fangirl screamed.

"OMG we need to do a duet."

Cian was smiling pretty big and said "Alright let's pick a song."

The two picked No Air by Jordan Sparks and Chris Brown. The two started the song and Koray could feel the emotions. The waitress opened the door to the booth to bring in the food. She sat it down and stopped at the door to listen to the two sings. She held the door open and a crowd outside began to gather. Even though it was a short song the two sang as if they had practiced together. When they were done they could hear clapping from the hall. The waitress excuses herself.

"That what I am talking about!" Said Simone.

"I haven't sung for anyone other than myself in a few years," said Cian.

"You are good at it. Why did you stop?" Asked Koray.

Cian grew quiet. Simone elbowed Koray.

"Let eat."

The three enjoyed the food and company. No one addressed Cian's silence to the question.

"So Cian you sound good did you train when you were younger?" asked Simone.

"I did. My father said that it would help me with trained magic when I got older and at first I was against it but I ended up loving it so I kept up with it till high school."

Cian quickly change the subject away from high school

"What about you Simone...you sound amazing did you train?" asked Cian.

"Well singing is in my blood you can say. My father is a half incubus and my mom is a siren so singing came naturally to me. So I started singing at a young age. I study so many different types of music and I have to say that I love it all. I also play piano and I study dance as well." said Simone.

"I did dance class a lot growing up but it was all ballet and ballroom." Said Koray. "I also play the violin."

"I was in a hip hop and b-boy group." Said Cian. "It was one thing everyone allowed me to do growing up. Everything else was always considered extra training for something else. I even did gymnastics for about 4 years. Though I did take a year of Ballroom dancing. My ex thought it would do me some good."

"Do you play any instruments Cian?" Asked Koray.

"I can play guitar, trumpet, and alto sax."

"My brother has a band and plays drums. You should meet him." Said Koray

Simone smiled "We can make a date out of it."

Cian started to protest but was interrupted by Koray "Don't be afraid Cian. We are friends now."

Cian's heart began to pound in his chest. His breathing became erratic. Cian clutched his chest.

"Cian?" Simone spoke out first.

"Oh my God Cian are you alright?" Cian could see Koray's lips move but not what she said.

Cian's body then hit the floor.
