Chapter 9: Ch 9. Fourth Floor 1
He calmly went down through the staircase.
As early as 8 AM where the sunshine start to shine through the east side of the sky, he already gobbled his last instant rice, and decided to bring all of his current supplies. He found a bigger backpack brought by deceased mountaineering enthusiast in secretary office. It also have those thick sleeping bag that could be inflated with just a punch, which then suck air into the sleeping bag to keep the wearer comfortably resting in safe area in the mountain.
He stuff all of more important stuffs, like his phone, phone charger, 2 portable chargers which he also found from secretary office, and 4 eggs inside metal lunch box, sauces and flavoring packages, also instant noodles which are being kept inside a deflated fresh keeping bag with a silica gel filled packet inside. Two gallons of water were left behind, only 2 tall bottles he got from secretary office which can hold up 1 and half litre of water are placed in left and right pocket of the bag.
These are all to prepare if he found a camp of survivor.
Last night at 5 PM....
Shi Xiao woke up due to a slight noise entered his ear. As a person who trained like a soldier in his childhood, he also learned how to rest his body but still maintained the state of vigilance.
Just a several second after that, he watched as the windows rattled, not to the pressure of wind, but from footsteps.
Zombies only active when there's a prey entering their range, so maybe the people who survived managed to enter the building, or survivors of this building are making the noises.
Which brave people dare to make noise in dark? He thought, but made no move to look. Since the first day the electricity fail, there's no way to see in darkness except from moonlight. It's better to lay down and reduce his sense of existence rather than foolishly sent his life out.
Shi Xiao learnt that zombies might avoid sunlight, but as soon the sun started to set, the zombies sensing range are expanded. Which means it's not a good idea to move at night. Especially without a flashlight and decent strategies to back up in case something bad happens.
They are more powerful at night, but it didn't mean the zombies capable of sensing a prey that manage to reduce their presence. The zombies only move to avoid sun and when they sensed a prey, so the survivors are the one who maybe accidentally entered their playground.
Moreover...., he is very selfish. He still want to go reunite with his family. Even if it's been almost a year since he run out, and refuse their contacts, he after all was their flesh and blood. There's no way he can hold anger for more than a night to his family. He just hope he can soon find his way back to them.
It's calculated that the survivors are fighting them all night, only at 2 AM in midnight that the sound died down. But he didn't see any corpses, maybe at third floor? He hopes that they could survives or managed to get out unscathed, otherwise the number of zombies he have to fight will increase. So he decided to go out early, not wanting to meet other people. He won't be stupid to think that Qian Jie will run in her skirt and pregnant state to kill zombies.
But this means he need to climb the elevator after all.
As soon as the apocalypse started, he already thinking a way to get down, but the third floor staircase unfortunately aren't connected directly to the basement. He have to get across the large hallway, which most likely overrun by a hoard of zombies, maybe almost all staffs in that day died there and become a zombies, as the third floor are 2/3 cafeteria, and the rest is resting lounges.
He didn't dare to look for Qian Jie in 3rd floor, so he decided, if he didn't find Qian Jie in 4th floor, he will give up and climb down by the elevator's rope and rush out alone.
As Shi Xiao predicted, the group that just cleaned up the fourth floor are all exhausted and worn down from a fight. 9 braves people dwindled down to 7 people, and almost died from 5 zombies which included their former friends, a group of 15 people pass by and helped them to kill the zombies. It turns out that night time are the best time for the zombies, they are faster and more deadly compared to normal speed in daytime.
After introducing themselves, the 6 people hurriedly invited them down, and now with more people and supplies, they grouped together and huddled in a corner of third floor. They are lucky that one of the survivors in 4th floor have a manager position, it can open up most of places including the pantry. So the people inside the pantry gave up and let their supplies be divided equally, with unwilling eyes stared at those long lived bastards.
Su Mei gloatingly ate the fresh hot soup, almost burst into tears if not for her wanting to kept her face. She sneer at dry bread that allocated to people who didn't dare to go up together, now they can only eat dry bread with water. If not for the men compassion for the weak, her suggestion to starve them might be realized. But she still hate the fact that Qian Jie is hold up by numerous men, who willing to please a beauty, especially now she revealed the fact that she is pregnant, is given a bowl of soup, although not as much as her.
It's so sickening!! Isn't she just like a green tea bitch, a white lotus?! Relying on her face, now on her baby, what a vain woman!
Su Mei darkly thought, but she didn't realizes she also is a vain woman.
