Chapter 8: Power levels
Because Mr. Black gave us the harsh warning in the morning lesson, nobody dared to come late to the afternoon lesson and after all assembling there, it only took five more minutes for the teachers to arrive. They also arrived before the starting time, so being there way earlier paid out for us in the end.
"I have to say, Mr. Black, your students are very punctual, especially for the second day", Lisa stated, not aware of what happened in the morning.
"They learn fast at least. Now kids, this lady standing next to me is Lisa Violet, an angel hybrid and your main tutor for the practical lessons. Lisa, I will let you do the rest of your introduction yourself", he said, handing the lead of the lesson over to Lisa.
"Hey students, you can call me Lisa, no need to be so formally correct and call me Ms. Violet. We are all hybrids after all. I hope we all can get along well and grow strong together. Even I am far from reaching the limit of my potential, an endless journey one could say. In the past, there were no hybrid schools, so I'm mostly self-taught. I also helped many other hybrids to grow stronger, which is why you all will be in good hands with me", she introduced herself.
"Now without further ado, let's get started with the lesson. Today we will grade you upon your existing skills. There are three different categories, which you will be graded on: fighting strength, celestial energy capabilities and fighting technique. Theses grades will be your benchmarks to improve on. The ratings go from F to S, where F is a hybrid who never fought before and doesn't have any physical enhancements either and S is up to a level of well-trained full celestial being. Even most celestial beings can't reach an S rating, most of them hover around a B to A rating. Your celestial energy capabilities can actually be measured by a special celestial artefact but the other ratings will be done by us teachers, so these aren't as exact and if you don't show everything you will get a worse rating. Fighting strength measures how strong your body is and fighting technique measures the finesse of your fighting style. We will group you together with your dorm roommate for now and by next week you will be grouped with someone on an equal standing. But before we start with the assessment I will show you my own ratings, so you have a rough idea how all of this works", Lisa explained and then took a small card out of her pocket, which looked just like our ID cards.
"Some of you might have recognized this already, it is the same as the ID cards you got. These aren't just for basic identification, they are also used to record your skill levels. You can use them to accept missions in the military for example, as you aren't able to do missions above your average rating. Now take a look at mine and then pass it around, so you all know what your card will look like once we are finished with the assessment", she said, handing her card to the nearest student.
After a while, I got Lisa's card into my hands and I took a look at it. On the card was a picture of Lisa and the following text:

"Wow, Lisa is actually even stronger than I thought she is. I only knew she was great with celestial energy but never expected to be so strong all around. She is even up par with actual celestial beings. No wonder she got adopted into such a powerful family", I thought to myself, as I starred at the card for a while and then handed it to Emilia.
After the last student gave the card back to Lisa, we were all separated in different groups together with our roommates. My group consisted out of Emilia, me, Ivan and his roommate, Adrik. They must have put us together as most of us did a part of the test already.
And so the first test began, a sparring match against Mr. Black. We were allowed to go all out on him to show our strength and technique. I wondered if he will be able to go against Ivan, who is a natural strong demon hybrid after all. By common sense, Mr. Black should get crushed by him.
At the site there was a huge wall with all different types of weapons like swords and spears. We were allowed to pick any weapon we were comfortable with. Mr. Black picked a simple sword.
Emilia was the first to go up against him and she also decided to pick a sword. It was noticeable too heavy for her as she had clear troubles with holding it upright, so she decided to hold it with both hands for now.
She stood in the field opposing Mr. Black. At his signal the sparring match started and he let Emilia take the initiative. Emilia decided to charge at him and as soon as she got into his range, Mr. Black disarmed her with a skilful movement of his hands and said: "You clearly have never held a sword before, but nice try. With a lot of training you will be able to properly fight me in next assessment. For now, however, you will be graded as F in both strength and technique."
Emilia returned to our side quite sadly, as she had clearly hoped not to be overpowered completely by a human. Next up was Ivan and he was very excited to be able to show his strength. He didn't pick a weapon and decided to go up with just his bare hands. Upon seeing this, Mr. Black also dropped his sword and prepared for a hand on hand combat with Ivan.
I was very curious for his reasoning doing this. A normal human shouldn't be able to go up against a demonic fighter hybrid like Ivan, so he certainly had an ace up his sleeve.
The fight once again began at the signal of Mr. Black. Ivan immediately charged at him with full speed and what happened next shocked all of us.
