Chapter 2: Meeting The Family

"Young Miss…?" I heard the woman called again. But as of the moment, my concern is what the hell is going on? Even the reflected shock in the plate is not mine! This body, this shocked yet still an angelic face, these aren't mine; these belong to another person, namely Lady Jeanne Cleverfield.

"Lady Jeanne!" The woman then exclaimed, startling and taking me out of my thoughts. I looked at her and saw her very concerned face, "Tell me what's wrong, please…?" This woman… Brunette with brown eyes, she must be Madeleine, Lady Jeanne's loyal aide. I tried to speak but there was no voice, oh that's right, this heroine is mute. I gently touched my throat and felt it, clearly it wasn't a mistake.

Madeleine looked at me patiently as she waited for my response. I don't really know how to speak with her but then these hands just did their thing. They were waving on their own as I tried to say that everything was okay and 'I' just had a very bad dream. She then looked relieved, "Alright… You scared me there, are you really sure you're fine…?". I just nodded at her and tried my best to smile, "Alright… Just let me tidy up a bit and help you get dressed…". I nod one last time before looking back at the plate.

Sheesh, this is crazy, how on earth did I get here? And the fact that I'm inside the body of another person, she's not even a real person; she's a fictional character! I then sighed deeply and calmed myself down. I'll get nowhere if I dwell on the situation more than I have to. I guess I just need to figure out things as I go.

As Madeleine did her chores, I sat back on the bed and looked closely to the room. It was quite spacious but just enough for a young lady like Lady Jeanne. A bed with a small night stand, a small coffee table and chair, a huge wardrobe with a changing area plus a vanity table which I overlooked earlier. It was a decent looking room. Well, her room was about the size of my small apartment room.

"All done… Now up you go young Miss, we need to get you dressed before breakfast time." I just obeyed and stood up and went near the vanity table. As Madeleine got me dressed, I was reviewing her character in my mind. Madeleine was an 11 year old orphan that Sir Richard Cleverfield, Lady Jeanne's father, brought home when he saw her pitiful state as she works in a local bar. He bought her freedom and welcomed her into his family.

She was about the same age as Lady Jeanne that time and unlike other families, the Cleverfield didn't treat her as a servant. They treated her nicely and because of that gratitude, Madeleine had sworn loyalty and willingly served the family. Since Lady Jeanne is mute, she had learned how to communicate with her and had been her voice throughout their childhood up until the day she died trying to defend the family to some thugs that raided the Cleverfield household.

Though owning a piece of land and having a fishing business, the Cleverfield family chose to dress simply, it was for convenience as their patriarch said it would be. Other families tend to show off their wealth by dressing extravagantly but not to Sir Richard, he believes that one must be quick on his feet and that excess clothing will just hinder one's work. I have to thank Sir Richard for that because I'm not sure if I can take that much clothes.

We were in the middle of getting dressed when we heard the door open and an energetic young boy came rushing in, "Sister! sister! You're finally awake!" The boy then tried to drag me out of the room, "Come, let's have breakfast!".

"Young Master Henry!" Madeleine exclaimed as she stopped the boy from dragging me, "It is rude not to knock on someone's door before entering, plus young Miss isn't ready to go out yet.".

"Henry, a gentleman shouldn't be barging in a lady's room," I then heard another female's voice by the door. I looked and saw yet another beautiful woman, "Especially if they're still getting dressed.".

"Mother!"

"Lady Celeste, Greetings…" Madeleine then made a slight bow at her as she released the boy.

These two newcomers are Henry and Lady Celeste Cleverfield, the little brother and mother of Lady Jeanne. Henry is a 10-year-old boy who loves his sister way too much that he scares off potential suitors of hers. He's even more strict than their father. Lady Celeste is a hard-working lady but despite being a hands-on mother, she's able to facilitate their land and business after the death of her husband.

Madeleine, Lady Celeste and Henry; these three had been the joys in Lady Jeanne life. However, like Lady Jeanne herself, these people had met their end and it wasn't a pretty death. Though their memories had pushed her to go on living until her last breaths.

"Hmm...? Goodness child, is there something on my face...?" Lady Celeste asked me that took me out of my thoughts. I swinged my head and just smiled at her. "Alright then, finished up so we can have our breakfast." She then held Henry out of the room, "Come on, Henry. Let them finish up.".

"Okay, see you later, sister..."

Madeleine then carefully closed the door as the two left. I can't help not amiling at the scene. Lady Jeanne had such a loving family, it was a pity that they'll lose their lives in this very house.

Oh, wait...

I know everything about her life, about every tragedy that she'll face and how it went down... Should I try changing them...? I was given the chance to live again though with some kind mixed up, I transmigated into a fictional character's tragic life. With my knowledge, I could prevent so much death; even her own death... Maybe... Maybe I should give it a try...
