Chapter 1: Misfortune

In a dimly lit room, Luke sat in front of his computer, his phone plugged into the usb port. He was doing the usual, 'If I can't beat it, cheat it.' routine that he always does.

If there was a game that piqued his interest, he would immediately play it for hours on end, but if he somehow faces a difficulty like level grinding, he wouldn't hesitate and hack the game so that he would have a huge advantage.

Some might say that he is playing unfair, a cheater, a no life, and they aren't wrong, but not right either. A lot of games require the players to invest a lot of time into them just so that they could progress further into the game. Luke is cheating so that the time he needs to play would decrease, and that he could maximize the fun he gets from the game.

There are all sorts of cheaters that exists within the internet, but the most annoying cheaters are the one that cheats on Multiplayer games. Multiplayer games allow the players to team-up with random people or make a team with friends to fight against random people with the same rank. That's why Luke only cheats on Singleplayer games, so that everyone wins—he could have fun with a modified game whilst at the same time not ruining other people's fun.

Of course, there are also all sorts of cheats that could be found in the internet, not just cheaters. From wallhacks to auto-aim that gives the player the advantage to other opponents, to the casual infinite money cheat that gives the player a ludicrous amount of money for the sake of having fun.

Luke opened a cheating software that he created by himself and opened the game he wanted to cheat on his phone. After modifying the game files for a bit, he finished and unplugged his phone from his PC. This was a casual thing for him in weekdays, this was practically his living.

It was not only him that wanted a game to be cheated, there are a ton of people that also wants to experience being a god-like entity in games. For that reason alone, he made a website where he uploads all of the games he cheated all throughout his career. There, people could choose donate to him so that they could support him, or not.

There are many reasons that players cheat, it could either be because they are stuck on a level and don't want to waste time, or they just want to have fun, Luke is one of the latter. After he installed the modified APK file of the game, he immediately opened it to see if it had really worked.

Laying down on his bed, he plugged his earphones and wore them to muffle all of the noise from the rain that's happening outside. Before he uploads the game to his website, he needs to check it first to see if the modifications he made really did impact the game.

The title screen came up with the developer's logo on it and then the home screen came right after. He clicked the shiny, golden play button in the center and went on with the game. The game is the stereotypical clicker/upgrade type of game where the player clicks a certain part of the screen to gain money in the game, and use that money to upgrade so that every click would worth more than it first started.

Luke didn't get to clicking right away, but instead, he turned his gaze towards the top of his phone screen where he could see the money and the ingame currency. Money and ingame currency may sound like the same thing, but they are worlds apart.

Money is the normal currency players could get just by... playing. Ingame currency on the otherhand gives the players the power to buy boosts. Making money on a free game would be impossible, so the developers of these types of games add in a Ingame Currency that players could use to speed up things. The most grueling part of these types of games is that the player needs to wait for an upgrade to finish, hence why the speed up boosts are needed.

Of course, the boosts aren't only limited to speed up boosts, there are also boosts that could double or even quintuple the money the player gains when tapping, though, the prices may vary depending on the advantage it gives to players.

As Luke's gaze landed on the top corner of his screen, he saw that the Ingame Currency and the money he has is an absurd amount. Not just millions, Sexdecillion, it's the same as a million, but instead of six zeroes, it has fifty-one.

The same goes for the money he has. Truth be told, Luke only changed the game files from zero to a lines of nine and held the key for about ten seconds before he let go. After confirming it, he wanted to upload it immediately so that the task wouldn't be forgotten because he was busy playing.

He walked towards his computer station and noticed that the window beside his computer was still opened, the curtain blew along with the wind and went inside his room, he shivered, 'So that's why it was cold...'

Luke walked a few steps and arrived at the window with his phone in hand, the USB that was connected to his phone was dangling in the air. Just as he was about to close the window, a strike of thunder lashed out at him without him even noticing. He was just standing there, still oblivious of the fact that there is a strike of thunder approaching towards his opened window in the speed of light.

The amount of electricity that went inside his body isn't an amount that any human being could handle. He laid there on the ground, roasted black, if his mother were here, even she wouldn't recognize her burnt son.
