Chapter 34: Coffee

The current He Zifeng was done tidying his wardrobe. He went into the kitchen and put on the apron to start cooking. The dark shiny fridge he now has reflected his image with the apron on. It was the same one he used when he was overseas.

He recalled Chen Kaori's surprise visit. This made him smile. Then he furrowed his brows as he recalled how he tried desperately to rescue her from the fallen bookshelves in the school library the day before she was supposed to fly back to City O.

.

.

"Chen Kaori!" He Zifeng shouted as he panickingly tried to rummage through the pile of books and fallen shelves to find Chen Kaori.

Few minutes prior, she sent him a message that she was already at his college's library, waiting for him to come.

The message seemed weird for him because he never agreed to meet her there. He checked his phone after going to the restroom in haste after Sandra spilled some of her iced coffee on him. The coffee stained despite his efforts to wash it off his white dress shirt. He tried so hard because he wanted to bring Chen Kaori somewhere fancy after he was done with schoolwork. As they were compiling their group work, Sandra accidentally tipped her takeaway cup and the coffee spilled on him.

Because the message was suspicious, he wanted to check it out. He stood up and packed his things.

"Where are you going?" Sandra held his forearm to stop him.

"I got something to do." he said nonchalantly as he brushed off her hand.

When he arrived at the library, people were talking about someone being trapped in the fallen bookshelves.

He panicked and started calling out Chen Kaori's name.

As he rummaged through piles of books, He Zifeng was regretting not sending Chen Kaori away the day she arrived for her surprise visit.

He was panting as he tried his best to lift a fallen shelf in vain. He looked around and called her name again. He observed the piles of books for any movement.

Suddenly, there was movement from a pile being pressed down by a shelf.

"Kaori!" he shouted as he dashed towards that direction.

The people in the library were whispering among themselves.

Fortunately, when He Zifeng tried to lift that other shelf, security and maintenance personnel arrived to help him out.

As the shelf was moved, books made way to reveal an arm.

"Chen Kaori!" He Zifeng pushed the books away to fully reveal her, unconscious.

He Zifeng immediately carried her out and dashed out, moving to another building where the clinic was.

When Chen Kaori opened her eyes, she saw He Zifeng sleeping on a chair near the bed she was lying in, with his brows furrowed and his arms crossed over his torso.

She moved her view and saw a monitor attached to her body. 'Guess it was bad enough to be hospitalized,' she thought.

Indeed, the nurse at the university clinic called the emergency number after seeing her condition. Thus, He Zifeng worriedly brought her to the hospital.

Suddenly, a group of doctors and nurses entered the room after knocking.

"Miss Chen, good morning. How are you feeling?" the doctor leading the team asked her with a smile.

He Zifeng woke up from his sleep instantly after hearing the noise. His head immediately turned to Chen Kaori. "You're awake..." he murmured.

Chen Kaori smiled at him then turned her head to face the doctor, "I feel okay, though my head hurts a bit."

"Well, you have a contusion at the back of your head, but the CT scan revealed it was only superficial hematoma. Nothing serious. We think your loss of consciousness was due to shock. You might have some muscle pains too, as it will definitely hurt...getting hit by a bookshelf."

"Oh...I remember...uh, I was unlucky." Chen Kaori tried to smile as she recalled her misfortune.

He Zifeng frowned. 'It wasn't an accident. Someone set it up,' he thought.
