Chapter 1: Prologue

It's the New Year and everyone is celebrating. Red pockets are given out and laughter is resonating throughout the house across the country. Dishes are being served and everyone is chatting merrily amongst themselves and the men were feeling a bit tipsy after drinking a lot of alcohol. Children were laughing and groaning at the terrible jokes made by their fathers while the elders just smiled at the scene. Everyone but one was enjoying this holiday.

That one person was kneeling in a cemetery in front of two marble gravestones, muttering prayers and apologies under their breath. As the wind blew, the figure had not moved like a statue and when the caretaker that sweeps the graves in the cemetery walked in to sweep the two graves, that figure still did not move. The caretaker sighed. It was quite pitiful for a girl to just kneel here all day, the caretaker thought but he did not ask the girl to move as he knew why the girl kneeled in front of the gravestones every New Years day. The caretaker swept as much as he could in front of the girl and left it at that.

As the day continued on, the girl still knelt in front of the gravestones until it was dark. Only until then did she move to stand up but fell down instead because her legs had long fallen asleep from kneeling for too long. She smiled bitterly and continued to push herself up, off the ground. She dusted herself off and looked at the graves one last time. She bowed her head at the graves and then walked her ever long journey back to her house.

When she arrived, she instantly collapsed in her room as soon as she got there and started sobbing quietly. She tried to push herself up to got to her bed but her body just wouldn't cooperate. She gave up and just curled herself in to a ball and just cried her heart out from the memories she had remembered. it was only hours later did she raise her head up and crawled to her bed. Every movement felt sluggish and foreign to her but she accepted it. She had long accepted that sometimes she would just relapse back to the day that caused all her misery. When she got into her bed, she just turned to the side and stared at the wall for a long time before succumbing to exhaustion. While everyone enjoyed the New Year, she just slept through it, turning a blind eye to the rest of the world as she slept. But that did not mean she had a peaceful dream.
