Chapter 2: Two: Meeting my roommate.

I walked up the stairs and then the hallway where it was busy with fellow new students trying to find their rooms.

I smiled, knowing I had done all that needed to be done concerning my admission process days before.

I was here yesterday too to drop some of my stuff, so I knew where my room was, but I didn't know who my roommate was.

I hope he was here already. I know lecture officially starts Monday and today was just Friday, I wanted him around so I'd have someone accompany me to the all freshers party tonight.

Taking out my key, I opened door 24B; my room. I saw a bunch of roughly folded clothes on one of the two beds in the room. It seems my roommate was here.

Closing the door, I saw more things scattered on the floor beside the bed; books, papers, crayons, pencils and more books.

"Heyy." I heard an unexpected voice.

"Jeez man, scared the fuck out me." I said holding my chest. He looked just about my age. He had glasses on, not in the funny nerdy way, it somehow made him look smart.

"Sorry."He said walking past me to sit on the messy bed. He started picking up some of the things.

"So you're my new roommate?" I kept my bag on the other bed and stood with my hands in my jean pocket.

"Isn't it obvious."He looked at me, making me feel stupid." My name's Dylan, sorry about the room, will clean it up when I'm done."

"I'm Jerry." I said, not wanting to say another word which might make me sound dumb.

"What's the full name? Jeremy?" He asked packing his things.

"Yeah." I replied and we both remained silent.

After a while of me watching him pack his things, I decided to leave and go meet some new persons, I hadn't made any friends yet. I could unpack later.

"What are you here to study anyway?" I heard Dylan asked when I was about to leave.

"Architecture, you?"

"Mathematics." I heard him reply me.

"Mathematics?" I asked surprised.

"Yes?" He looked at me."You look surprised."

"I am." I said honestly."I mean it's not everyday you see someone in college studying math."

"Well.." He started. "This might sound impossible but I wanna lecture at Yale one day."He said."I want to be a professor." His voice I thought was filled with determination.

"Wow." I didn't think it possible but what the hell did I care.

"Yeah." He nodded.

"So....are you going to the party tonight?" I asked.

"No." His reply was quick and simple.

"Really?"

"Yeah. It's not worth it, you get drunk and do stupid, unintended things you'd end up regretting." He said closing the wardrobe next to his bed.

"You think?"

"I know." He replied again adjusting his glasses.

"What do you mean you know, it's not like you've been a freshman before or something." I joked but he didn't laugh.

"You are right, I haven't but I had an elder sister, she was almost beaten to death at a party while she was in college, it wasn't the freshers party, she was about to graduate, went to party with her friends, she was almost raped, the only reason she wasn't raped like her friends was because she fought back but that didn't end well either, they beat the crap out of her." He sighed after he spoke.

"In other words I'm gonna get raped?" I joked but then I realized he wasn't lying with his story.

"You can go, if you want, it's your choice but I'm not going."

"Come on man, what happened to your sister happened coincidentally, I mean you can't just propose it happened to her because she decided to go to a party." He looked at me , shifted his glasses again and continued what he was doing.

"You paid your lodging fees yet?" He attempted to change the topic.

"Yeah, have you?"

"Not yet. Will you help me pay mine? I was thinking maybe you'd just pay for us both and it's due for 5pm."

"Don't you have to be there to pay yourself or something?"

"Not really, they just need an id card and lodge number that's all."

"Oh." An idea struck me.

"So would you?"

"I'd do it as a favour, so you have to do me a favour later." I smiled.

"Fine I'll owe you a favour." He said in a calm voice. "If it's something I can do, I would do it. Here's my ID card and the money." I caught the envelope he tossed at me.

"Really?" I was quite surprised, did he trust people that easily? I mean we were roomies now but we just met.

"you look like you come from a good home, so yeah, I trust you and besides I know you won't risk your education for some rent. Please hurry." He said. It was almost like he read my thoughts.

I climbed back up the stairs after I had paid Dylan's lodge fee. It was getting darker, almost party time.

"Paid and here's your receipt." I dropped the receipt in front of Dylan's desk when I entered the room.

"Thanks man." He said looking up from his book. Was he seriously reading?

"So about that favour..." I started with a smile on my face.

"Well that was quick, what do you want me to do, unpack your bag?"

"Nooouuu, why would I call a favour on that?"

"Okay? What do you want?"

"Go to the party with me." I blinked twice because of the look he gave me.

"I should have seen this coming." He said.

"I don't have any friend here yet, just you and I don't even know if we're friends yet, are we?"

"We can't be strangers sharing a room, so yes we are. Why do you even wanna go to this party so bad?"

"No specific reason?" I hoped I sounded convincing enough.

"You plan on getting laid, don't you?"

"No. Yes. If it happens it happens." He smirked at my nervous answer.

"You're a virgin, aren't you"

" I'm not." I lied looking away.

"You are." He said with assertion written all over his face and a smirk.

"How would you know that?"

"Your innocence." He grinned and then it turned into a laughter.

"Haha, very funny, you're messing with me right?" I hoped. I didn't wanna believe that it was so visible that I hadn't had sex.

"Yeah, I am. I'll go with you, only if you promise to not get drunk."

"I promise." I wasn't general alcohol fan.

"Alright then."
